Flood Disaster Risk Simulation in Urban Areas in Chaclacayo district, Peru
Castillo Osorio, Ever Enrique,Yoo, Hwan Hee 대한공간정보학회 2018 대한공간정보학회지 Vol.26 No.2
Many urban areas are vulnerable to hazards produced by natural disasters specially floods that are currently increasing. For this reason, prevention efforts must focus on reducing disaster risks when they happen. These actions are applied to land areas; therefore the geographic data are valuable to improve them, because they give the spatial location of the elements in the terrain. Likewise, the hydrological simulation models provide a perspective of the possible vulnerable areas impacted by floods. In order to achieve the improvement of flood disaster risk prevention activities, we propose a methodology for the hydrological simulation of flood scenarios using HecRAS tool. In this methodology we define the geometrical conditions of the cartographic data, use Gumbel`s distribution method for the processing of hydrological data, and develop the hydrological simulation process applying geomorphological and fluid mechanics parameters. The results of the hydrological simulation and the cartographic data are stored in a flexible geodatabase designed by us, using standards and protocols based on open source, which allows their collection, processing and dissemination. We apply the proposed methodology to a case study and develop the hydrological modeling for three simulation scenarios, to calculate the flooding urban areas in Chaclacayo district located in Peru.

While the success or failure of carpal tunnel release ultimately depends on the interplay of a wide array of factors, a broad understanding of the normal anatomy of the carpal tunnel accompanied by awareness of the possible variations of the individual structures that make up its contents is crucial to optimizing surgical outcomes. While anatomic variants such as extension of the flexor digitorum muscle bellies have been described as a cause of primary carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), there have been no reports depicting its association with recurrent CTS following initially successful carpal tunnel release, a finding with potentially significant prognostic implications that can aid in operative planning. In such cases where muscle extension is identified preoperatively, careful debulking of the muscle belly may be beneficial in improving long-term surgical outcomes.
Study on Early-Age Elastic Modulus of FRC Using Electrical Resistivity and Resonance Frequency
Daniel Castillo,Saman Hedjazi,Ehsanul Kabir 한국콘크리트학회 2023 International Journal of Concrete Structures and M Vol.17 No.1
The correlation between surface electrical resistivity and modulus of elasticity of fiber-reinforced concrete (FRC) was studied within early ages in this study as a novel nondestructive method for predicting the modulus of elasticity of FRC. In addition to the relationship of the two quantities, the influence of various discrete fibers such as glass, nylon, polypropylene, and steel on the early age properties of FRC was investigated. Twenty-one FRC mixes were designed and tested; including four fiber types, three different fiber volume fractions for each fiber type, and three different water-to-cement ratios for all the different mixes. The surface electrical resistivity meter and resonance testing gauge were used to measure each specimen’s surface electrical resistivity and modulus of elasticity. Early-age dynamic modulus of FRC may be predicted using the mechanical properties and dimension of the fiber, according to proposed mathematical calculations. Statistical analysis was performed on the experimental results and the results acquired by the proposed equations, to examine and proof the accuracy of the proposed equations. The acceptable coefficient of variation of 5–9 percent confirmed the good agreement between the measured and predicted values.
Characterization and functional analysis of two PKR genes in fugu (<i>Takifugu rubripes</i>)

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>PKR (protein kinase R) is a serine–threonine kinase that inhibits protein synthesis by the phosphorylation of the eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2-alpha (eIF2α), and activates NFκB by inducing NFκB-inducing kinase and IκB (inhibitor of NFκB) kinase. This can lead to antiviral and anti-proliferative effects. In this study, the complete sequence and organization of two fugu PKR genes (fPKRs) were determined by <I>in silico</I> analysis and conventional PCR. The full-length <I>fPKR1</I> and <I>fPKR2</I> genes were 3832 bp and 4325 bp, which encoded 523 and 492 amino acids, respectively. Both encoded two dsRNA binding domains and a Serine/Threonine protein kinase domain, and showed very high similarity to green spotted puffer PKRs. Gene expression of the two fPKRs was measured by quantitative real-time PCR on tissue samples from healthy fish and peripheral blood leukocytes stimulated with polyinosinic:polycytidylic acid (PolyI:C) or lipopolysaccharides (LPS). The fPKRs were highly expressed in the skin and fPKR2 was significantly induced in PBLs by PolyI:C but not by LPS. The fPKRs inhibited translation of a luciferase reporter gene in a dose-dependent manner and induced transcriptional activity of a mammalian NFκB luciferase reporter. These results demonstrate that two PKRs in a single species can both be independently, but not equally, functional and support the hypothesis that fish PKRs have roles in the innate immune response similar to those of mammalian PKRs.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P><P>► The complete sequence and structure of two PKR genes in fugu were determined. ► The fugu PKRs were highly expressed in the skin of healthy fish. ► The fugu PKRs were demonstrated to inhibit luciferase activity and induce NFκB.</P>
