Al-Ni hypoeutectic alloys were directionally solidified under upward transient heat flow conditions. The aim of the present study is to set up correlations between the as-cast microstructure and the resulting mechanical properties of these alloys. The dependence of primary and secondary dendrite arm spacing on the alloy solute content and on solidification thermal parameters is also analyzed. The results include transient metal/mold heat transfer coefficient, tip growth rate, cooling rate, dendrite arm spacing, ultimate tensile strength, yield tensile strength and elongation. Expressions relating dendrite spacing to solidification thermal parameters and mechanical properties to the scale of the dendritic microstructure have been determined. It was found that the ultimate tensile strength and the yield tensile strength increase with increasing alloy solute content and with decreasing primary and secondary dendrite arm spacing. In contrast, the elongation was found to be independent of both alloy composition and dendritic arrangement.

Sustainable innovation – the introduction of new products and processes that bring economic, social and environmental benefits – have a crucial role in the textile and fashion industry. However, current literature mainly focuses on new product development and the consequent environmental impacts. One of the main challenges for textile and fashion companies is how to be environmentally, socially and economically sustainable and innovative in the meantime. This paper is based on the Triple Bottom Line framework and attempts to address this gap by identifying some key success factors (KSFs) that could allow textile and fashion companies to develop product and process innovations, taking into account their social, environmental and economic outcomes. The research is based on a multiple-case study method and results show that textile and fashion companies can achieve a competitive advantage by being sustainable and innovative and when there are strong corporate values, cultural heritage and stable relationships with the territory. Besides extending the literature on sustainable, the paper highlights the main challenges and opportunities within this sector.
Clinical and biological analysis in graftless maxillary sinus lift

Maxillary sinus lift for dental implant installation is a well-known and versatile technique; new techniques are presented based on the physiology of intrasinus bone repair. The aim of this review was to determine the status of graftless maxillary sinus lift and analyze its foundations and results. A search was conducted of the literature between 1995 and 2015 in the Medline, ScienceDirect, and SciELO databases using the keywords “maxillary sinus lift,” “blood clot,” “graftless maxillary sinus augmentation,” and “dental implant placement.” Ten articles were selected for our analysis of this technique and its results. Despite the limited information, cases that were followed for at least six months and up to four years had a 90% success rate. Published techniques included a lateral window, elevation of the sinus membrane, drilling and dental implant installation, descent of the membrane with variations in the installation of the lateral wall access and suturing. The physiology behind this new bone formation response and the results of the present research were also discussed. We concluded that this is a promising and viable technique under certain inclusion criteria.

In this research, La2Ti2O7 doped with erbium-ytterbium was produced by using solid state technique. A series of compoundswith the chemical equation (La1−x−yREx−y)2Ti2O7 were doped with (Er3+, x = 0.025, 0.050 ) and (Yb3+ y = 0.02 ) rare earth ionsprepared by conventional solid state reaction method at 1350 oC for 24 h. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electronmicroscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) were carried out for the structural analysis, which showedthat second phase did not form in (La1−x−yREx−y)2Ti2O7. Additionally, the polyaniline- erbium, ytterbium doped La2Ti2O7composites were fabricated via hot pressing using the compositions of (La0.955Yb0.02Er0.025)2Ti2O7, (La0.93Yb0.02Er0.05)2Ti2O7 andaniline. The weight ratios of erbium-ytterbium doped lanthanum titanate and aniline were 1:1 and 1:3 respectively, and epoxyresin was utilized to develop microwave shielding effectiveness composites. The microwave shielding effectiveness performancesof polyaniline- La2Ti2O7: erbium-ytterbium composites were examined by shielding effect in 0-8 GHz using two-port vectornetwork analyzer. A minimum of - 34.37 dB shielding effect performance was obtained in 6.27 GHz at the thickness of 2.0 mm. This shielding effect performance can be adjusted easily by managing the content of polyaniline in the composites for theneeded frequency bands.
Chylomicron Retention Disease: a Description of a New Mutation in a Very Rare Disease

Chylomicron retention disease, also known as Anderson’s disease, is a rare hereditary hypocholesterolemic dis-order, recessive inherited, characterized by nonspecific symptoms as abdominal distension, steatorrhea, and vomit-ing associated with failure to thrive. We describe a patient with failure to thrive, chronic diarrhea and steatorrhea who the diagnosis of chylomicron retention disease was established after several months of disease progression. The genetic study confirmed a homozygosity mutation in SAR1B gene, identifying a mutation never previous de-scribed [c.83_84delTG(p.Leu28Argfs*7)]. With this case report the authors aim to highlight for this very rare cause of failure to thrive and for the importance of an attempting diagnosis, in order to start adequate management with low fat diet supplemented with fat-soluble vitamins, reverting the state of malnutrition and avoiding possible irrever-sible and desvantating complications.
A probabilistic analysis of Miner’s law for different loading conditions

In this paper, the normalized variable V=(log N-B)(log Δσ-C), as derived from the probabilistic S-N field of Castillo and Canteli, is taken as a reference for calculation of damage accumulation and probability of failure using the Miner number in scenarios of variable amplitude loading. Alternative damage measures, such as the classical Miner and logarithmic Miner, are also considered for comparison between theoretical lifetime prediction and experimental data. The suitability of this approach is confirmed for it provides safe lifetime prediction when applied to fatigue data obtained for riveted joints made of a puddle iron original from the Fão bridge, as well as for data from experimental programs published elsewhere carried out for different materials (aluminium and concrete specimens) under distinct variable loading histories.

<P>We report the results of a Versailles Project on Advanced Materials and Standards (VAMAS) interlaboratory study on the measurement of the shell thickness and chemistry of nanoparticle coatings. Peptide-coated gold particles were supplied to laboratories in two forms: a colloidal suspension in pure water and particles dried onto a silicon wafer. Participants prepared and analyzed these samples using either X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) or low energy ion scattering (LEIS). Careful data analysis revealed some significant sources of discrepancy, particularly for XPS. Degradation during transportation, storage, or sample preparation resulted in a variability in thickness of 53%. The calculation method chosen by XPS participants contributed a variability of 67%. However, variability of 12% was achieved for the samples deposited using a single method and by choosing photoelectron peaks that were not adversely affected by instrumental transmission effects. The study identified a need for more consistency in instrumental transmission functions and relative sensitivity factors since this contributed a variability of 33%. The results from the LEIS participants were more consistent, with variability of less than 10% in thickness, and this is mostly due to a common method of data analysis. The calculation was performed using a model developed for uniform, flat films, and some participants employed a correction factor to account for the sample geometry, which appears warranted based upon a simulation of LEIS data from one of the participants and comparison to the XPS results.</P>
Supported Rh Catalysts for the Indirect Partial Oxidation of Isooctane

The production of hydrogen from isooctane over three rhodium-based catalysts has been examined. The reaction entailed total oxidation of a proportion of the fuel followed by reforming of isooctane to produce hydrogen. Rhodium(1% wt) was impregnated on three different supports: alumina, ceria-alumina, and ceria-zirconia. No differences in catalytic activity were observed, but reaction yield changed with the support. Ceria-zirconia was found to be the preferred support since methanation did not occur over the catalyst.
