The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the micro-structure and hardness of Ni-Cr alloy(Talladium™ alloy) and Co-Cr alloy(Wironium^(?) extra-hard alloy), which are widely used as partial denture frame work these days, depending on the cooling method, followed by casting. The frist group was bench cooled at room temperature(20℃), the second group was slowly cooled in the furnace from 700t to room temperature, and third, rapidly cooled in 20~22℃ water. The micro-structures of each specimen were compared by means of photomicrograph taken by metallurgical microscope. In addition to the physical characteristics of each specimen were obtained using the Rockwell C Scale. The results were obtained as follows: 1) The hardness value of Talladium™ alloy appeared higher than the Wironium^(?) alloy. 2) The hardness value of the slow cooling method(in the furnace) appeared higher the than the bench cooling method, water cooling method. 3) The grain particle in the slowly cooled alloy were much finer than the bench cooling method, water cooling method. 4) In the cooling method of Talladium™ alloy and Wironium^(?) alloy for partial denture the slow cooling method was considered more profitable than the bench cooling method, water cooling method.

Up-to-date imaging modalities such as three-dimensional dynamic contrast-enhanced CT (3D CT) and MRI may contribute to detection of hypervascular nodules in the liver. Nevertheless, distinguishing a malignancy such as hepatocellular carcinoma from benign hypervascular hyperplastic nodules (HHN) based on the radiological findings is sometimes difficult. Multiple incidental liver masses were detected via abdominal ultrasonography (US) in a 65-year-old male patient. He had no history of alcohol intake and no remarkable past medical history or relevant family history, and his physical examination results and laboratory findings were normal. 3D CT and MRI showed numerous enhanced nodules with hypervascularity during the arterial phase. After US guided liver biopsy, the pathological diagnosis was HHN. To date, several cases of HHN have been reported in patients with chronic alcoholic liver disease or cirrhosis. Herein, we report on a case of HHN in a patient with no history of alcoholic liver disease or cirrhosis. (Korean J Gastroenterol 2015;65:321-325)

Multidrug resistance, especially multidrug efflux mechanisms that extrude structurally unrelated cytotoxic compounds from the cell by multidrug transporters, is a serious problem and one of the main reasons for the failure of therapeutic treatment of infections by pathogenic microorganisms as well as of cancer cells. Streptococcus mutans is considered one of the primary causative agents of dental caries and periodontal disease, which comprise the most common oral diseases. A fragment of chromosomal DNA from S. mutans KCTC3065 was cloned using Escherichia coli KAM32 as host cells lacking major multidrug efflux pumps. Although E. coli KAM32 cells were very sensitive to many antimicrobial agents, the transformed cells harboring a recombinant plasmid became resistant to several structurally unrelated antimicrobial agents such as tetracycline, kanamycin, rhodamin 6G, ampicillin, acriflavine, ethidium bromide, and tetraphenylphosphonium chloride. This suggested that the cloned DNA fragment carries a gene encoding a multidrug efflux pump. Among 49 of the multidrug-resistant transformants, we report the functional gene cloning and characterization of the function of one multidrug efflux pump, namely MdeA from S. mutans, which was expressed in E. coli KAM32. Judging from the structural and biochemical properties, we concluded that MdeA is the first cloned and characterized multidrug efflux pump using the proton motive force as the energy for efflux drugs.

A 6 D.O.F Stewart platform type parallel robot has been developed as a simulator to test the surveillance robot stabilization control. Since the surveillance robot is installed on the unmanned ground vehicle (UGV), it is required to have a stabilization control system to compensate the disturbance from the UGV. PID control scheme has been applied to the parallel robot to generate controlled motion following the input motion.

<P>Abstract</P><P><B><I>Background:</I></B> Amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI) is regarded as a prodromal stage of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Given that patients with early-onset AD (EOAD) and with late-onset AD (LOAD) are known to have different clinical courses, symptoms and neuroimaging findings, early-onset (EOMCI) and late-onset aMCI (LOMCI) might be expected to have similar differences as EOAD versus LOAD. <B><I>Methods:</I></B> Our study involving 425 patients with aMCI (124 EOMCI, 301 LOMCI), who were followed for around 1.5 years, and 958 normal control subjects (NC) investigated neuropsychological characteristics and prediction of progression to AD in patients with EOMCI versus LOMCI. Neuropsychological scores were compared between EOMCI, LOMCI and NC with analyses of covariance controlling age, gender, education and disease duration. The risk of AD conversion was evaluated by Cox proportional hazard analyses. <B><I>Results:</I></B> The baseline neuropsychological performances were comparable between EOMCI and LOMCI. Visuospatial memory for EOMCI and verbal memory scores for LOMCI were significant predictors of AD conversion. <B><I>Conclusion:</I></B> Our study indicates that EOMCI with visuospatial memory impairment, which implies underlying right predominant pathology, and LOMCI with poor verbal memory, which suggests underlying left predominant pathology, are individual conditions at an increased risk of conversion to AD.</P><P>Copyright © 2012 S.
