      • Rosthodontic Treatment for the Elderly

        Ejivind, Budtz-Jorgensen 경희대학교 2001 INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON EAST-WEST MEDICINE Vol.2001 No.1

The primary objectives of prosthetic treatment of the partially edentulous elderly patient are to restore esthetics and masticatory function ; to secure stable occlusal conditions by natural tooth contacts ; to maintain or restore the vertical dimension of occlusion ; to apply biological principles to minimize direct treatment sequelae and long-term negative effects ; to apply simple treatment procedures that result in comfort and good esthetics ; and to choose a financially acceptable treatment plan. For the edentulous patients the aim is to restore esthetics, chewing function and comfort. These goals can more easily be achieved using complete overdentures supported or retained by a few remaining roots or implants. The main risk factors to consider are associated with progression of periodontal disease, caries activity, residual ridge resorption and associated functional problems. It is often possible to stop progression of periodontal disease by conservative periodontal therapy and by instituting adequate hygiene measures. It is, however, important that fixed or removable prostheses are designed to respect periodontal tissues. Progression of root caries is generally a larger problem in elderly patients and requires intense preventive measures and the application of non-complex prosthodontic therapy. The main risk factors for continuous residual ridge resorption in partially and completely older subjects are the rate of previous bone loss, excessive occlusal forces during mastication, and bruxism. The only efficient way to maintain the ridge level is to keep teeth / roots or place implants. A major functional risk factor in partially edentulous old persons is excessive tooth wear, occlusal therapy is rarely indicated and it is preferable to employ reversible conservative methods such as councelling and jaw exercises and to restore the teeth using semipermanents treatments. The major difficulties in complete denture therapy are to establish the relationship between the patient's complaints and the causes; to evaluate the prognosis for complete denture therapy; and to establish correct intermaxillary relations. To reduce the risk of treatment failure flew dentures can be designed following diagnostic modification of existing dentures ; copying existing dentures ; providing the patient with an acrylic resin occlusion rim which the patient should wear 2-3 weeks in order to establish the vertical dimension and an appropriate outline for the mandibular denture. The use of osseointegrated implants is a great advantage in order to improve patient comfort. The outcome of prosthetic treatment is determined by oral health, oral hygiene, biological and technical quality of the prosthesis and the patients' socio-economic situation ; however, the general health status is often a major limiting factor. Thus, in frail and dependent individuals the oral problems have to be assessed and resolved in the context of the patient's total health care plan.

      • Design and Construction of Detector Module for UFFO Burst Alert & Trigger Telescope

        정애라,최지녕,최연주,정수민,김지은,김민빈,김석환,김예원,이직,임희진,민경욱,나고운,남지우,박일흥,Jung, Aera,Ahmad, Salleh,Barrillon, Pierre,Brandt, Soren,Budtz-Jorgensen, Carl,Castro-Tirado, Alberto J.,Chen, Pisin,Choi, Ji Nyeong,Choi, Yeon J 한국천문학회 2012 天文學會報 Vol.37 No.2

One of the key aspects of the upcoming Ultra-Fast Observatory (UFFO) Pathfinder for Gamma-Ray Bursts(GRBs) identification will be the UFFO Burst Alert & Trigger Telescope(UBAT), based on a novel space telescope technique. The UBAT consists of coded mask, hopper, and detector module(DM). The UBAT DM consists of YSO crystal arrays, multi-anode photo mulipliers, and readout electronics. We will present the design and construction of the UBAT DM, and the response of the UBAT DM to X-ray sources.
