As motorcycles are getting more widely used recently, motorcycle accidents are gradually increased every year. Although most accidents are caused by human factors, the importance of motor vehicle safety standards cannot be underestimated indeed. A variety of regulations related to motorcycle safety have been issued in many countries such as EU, U.S., and Australia, etc. In order to harmonize the international safety standards, it is necessary to develop or enhance the Korean Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (KMVSS) for motorcycles. In this study, motorcycle safety standards for an exterior rear-view mirror and a tire are investigated. Actual test procedures are expected in sequential studies according to the results provided herein. Also, the findings in this paper can be utilized to ensure the KMVSS for a safer driving.

Lane Keeping Assistance System(LKAS) is a kind of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems(ADAS) which are developed to automate/ adapt/ enhance vehicle systems for safety and better driving. The main system function of LKAS is to support the driver in keeping the vehicle within the current lane. LKAS acquires information on the position of the vehicle within the lane and, when required, sends commands to actuators to influence the lateral movement of the vehicle. Recently, the vehicles equipped with LKAS are commercially available in a few vehicle-advanced countries and the installation of LKAS increases for safety enhancement. The test procedures for LKAS evaluations are being discussed and developed in international committees such as ISO(the International Organization for Standardization). In Korea, the evaluations of LKAS for vehicle safety are planned to be introduced in 2016 KNCAP(Korean New Car Assessment Program). Therefore, the test procedures of LKAS suitable for domestic road and traffic conditions, which accommodate international standards, should be developed. In this paper, some bullet points of the test procedures for LKAS are discussed by extensive researches of previous documents and reports, which are released in public in regard to lateral test procedures including LKAS and Lane Departure Warning System(LDWS). Later, it can be helpful to make a draft considering domestic traffic situations for test procedures of LKAS.
경유자동차의 실험실과 실도로 주행시험에 관한 비교 분석

Since a diesel vehicle scandal related to the 'A' automobile company was issued in the United States in 2015, many countries have been interested in emission defeat devices. Being embedded in some diesel passenger cars sold in Korea, a defeat device for exhaust gas may have influence on both fuel economy and NOx emissions. In order to examine such effects, we carried out laboratory indoor tests as well as real road driving tests using four models of 'A' automobile company which may employ defeat devices. Those tests were performed observing the test modes of FTP-75, HWFET, and NEDC. Although fuel economy and NOx emissions according to indoor tests comply with the suggested tolerance, the findings in the real road driving tests do not satisfy the tolerance. Along with the results provided in this study, further evaluation may be necessary to investigate the noticeable difference between the indoor and real road tests.
이륜자동차의 주행저항 결정 기법이 WMTC 연비 측정에 미치는 영향

There are some ambiguities of the information on the fuel economy provided to the consumers because the standard and the detailed regulations for the fuel economy of the two-wheeled vehicle have not been established in Korea. Since Korea has been a signatory of World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations since 1998, it is possible to remove the ambiguities by adopting the WMTC (Worldwide-harmonized Motorcycle Test Cycle) measurement method for the fuel economy of the two-wheel vehicle. As a preliminary study on the WMTC mode fuel economy, road loads measured by coast down method and table method were compared for the two types of two-wheeled motorcycles on sales in domestic market. In the same model, it was confirmed that the deviation of WMTC mode fuel efficiency was below -5% between products. On the other hand, the difference of WMTC fuel economy exceeded 5% between the coast down method and table method.

ADAS(Advanced Driver Assistance System) which is developed for alleviating driver's load has become improved with extending it's role. Previously, ADAS offered simple function just to make driver's convenience. However, nowadays ADAS also acts as Active Safety system which is made to release and/or prevent accidents. Longitudinal control system, as one of major parts of Active Safety System, is assessed as doing direct effect on avoiding accidents. Therefore, many countries such as Europe and America has pushed longitudinal control system as a government-wide project. In this paper, it covers the result of evaluation system and vehicle evaluation for development study in FCW, ACC and AEB.
이륜자동차 스탠드/번호판/튜닝금지 안전기준에 관한 연구

Recently, many drivers of two-wheeled motorcycles in leisure and express delivery industries etc. brought increasing issues for the motorcycle safety. This paper has studied the structural safety of two-wheeled motorcycles considering the regulations for stand, rear registration plate and anti-tampering measures. The authors have investigated and compared a variety of international and domestic regulations and specifications for structural safety of those components. Detailed experimental procedures of stand, mounting for rear registration plate and anti-tampering measures are proposed to secure the two-wheeled motorcycle safety and the outcomes of this study can be used to confirm the Korean motor vehicle safety standards.
