      • Shockable Rhythm Diagnosis for Automated External Defibrillators Using a Modified Variational Mode Decomposition Technique

        <P>Sudden cardiac arrests are mainly caused by ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia, which are known as shockable (SH) rhythms and properly curable by electronic defibrillators. In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm to decide whether an electrocardiogram (ECG) signal is SH or nonshockable (NSH). The algorithm selects 20 features from both the preprocessed ECG and its NSH signal using a modified variational mode decomposition technique, and uses the support vector machine for the binary SH/NSH classification. The 20 features are identified as an efficient set of the most informative, among 54 candidate features, by comparing the balanced error rate of each combination, based on two layers of feature selection. This feature set is validated with the evaluation data in the public database using a fivefolds cross validation procedure. The proposed algorithm results in accuracy of 99.00%, sensitivity of 97.36%, and specificity of 99.16%.</P>

        Lateral Stability Control of Electric Vehicle Based On Disturbance Accommodating Kalman Filter using the Integration of Single Antenna GPS Receiver and Yaw Rate Sensor

        This paper presents a novel lateral stability control system for electric vehicle based on sideslip angle estimation through Kalman filter using the integration of a single antenna GPS receiver and yaw rate sensor. Using multi-rate measurements including yaw rate and course angle, time-varying parameters disappear from the measurement equation of the proposed Kalman filter. Accurate sideslip angle estimation is achieved by treating the combination of model uncertainties and external disturbances as extended states. Active front steering and direct yaw moment are integrated to manipulate sideslip angle and yaw rate of the vehicle. Instead of decoupling control design method, a new control scheme, “two-input two-output controller”, is proposed. The extended states are utilized for disturbance rejection that improves the robustness of lateral stability control system. The effectiveness of the proposed methods is verified by computer simulations and experiments.

        Determinants of Intra-Industry Trade between Vietnam and Countries in TPP

        Intra-industry trade (IIT) has played an important role in international trade of Vietnam as a result of rapid growth of the country. This article investigates the level of IIT between Vietnam and 11 trading partners in Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) over the period 2000-2014. Although there have been a large number of empirical researches contributed to the determinants of IIT, most of them only pay attention on developed countries where the trade flows are similar due to similar demand structure and production technology. Until now, there is no study on intra-industry trade between Vietnam and countries in TPP that Vietnam recently signed a trade agreement in early 2016. IIT is measured by the Grubel-Lloyd index. The index shows that the extent of intra-industry trade between Vietnam and the trading countries is not high due to the level of economic development and the market size. The determinants of IIT are examined using a panel regression model. In the empirical analysis, the results indicate that Vietnam's intra-industry trade is positively correlated with country size, while it is negatively correlated with income dissimilarity, the trade openness, and geographical distance. This study contributes to the new theoretical trade theory on the evidence of developing country's IIT.

        Self-control as an important factor affecting the online learning readiness of Vietnamese medical and health students during the COVID-19 pandemic: a network analysis

        Purpose The current study aimed to use network analysis to investigate medical and health students’ readiness for online learning during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University. Methods A questionnaire survey on the students’ readiness for online learning was performed using a Google Form from May 13 to June 22, 2021. In total, 1,377 completed responses were eligible for analysis out of 1,411 participants. The network structure was estimated for readiness scales with 6 factors: computer skills, internet skills, online communication, motivation, self-control, and self-learning. Data were fitted using a Gaussian graphical model with the extended Bayesian information criterion. Results In 1,377 students, a network structure was identified with 6 nodes and no isolated nodes. The top 3 partial correlations were similar in networks for the overall sample and subgroups of gender and grade levels. The self-control node was the strongest for the connection to others, with the highest nodal strength. The change of nodal strength was greatest in online communication for both gender and grade levels. The correlation stability coefficient for nodal strength was achieved for all networks. Conclusion These findings indicated that self-control was the most important factor in students’ readiness network structures for online learning. Therefore, self-control needs to be encouraged during online learning to improve the effectiveness of achieving online learning outcomes for students.

        Fabrication of Planar Waveguide Chip for Splitting or Combining an Infrared Light Beam

        Based on hybrid materials of polymethamethyl acrylat, silica and zirconia (ASZ)/Titania (AST), some planar structures of optical power splitter/combiner type 1×N channels were designed and simulated for making masks by using computer software. Splitter chips were then fabricated by using the thin-film sol-gel technique and their structure was formed by using a direct photo-patterning method with UV light and a mask. A conformation of the waveguide was tested with an Alpha-Step IQ system. The waveguide properties of the splitter were measured with a 1550 nm laser source. The experimental results show that the light was transmitted through the chip with a total output efficiency of around 6% and was separated uniformly at the output channels.         Mental health and its determinants among adolescents living in families with separated or divorced parents in an urban area of Vietnam

        Objectives: We assessed the prevalence of stress, anxiety, and depression among adolescents living in families with separated or divorced parents in Hue City, Vietnam and identified factors associated with these conditions.Methods: This cross-sectional study enrolled 309 adolescents, aged 12 to 17 years, living in families with separated or divorced parents in Hue City, Vietnam. The depression anxiety stress scale-21 (DASS-21) was used to measure stress, anxiety, and depression. Predictors of overall and individual mental health problems were identified using ordered and binary logistic regression, respectively.Results: The DASS-21 scale revealed a 49.2% prevalence of stress, while anxiety and depression had s prevalence rates of 61.5%. Among participants, 42.4% experienced all 3 mental health issues. Several factors were identified as significant predictors of mental health problems, including poor to average economic status (adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 2.00; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.21–3.31; p=0.007); being in high school (aOR, 5.02; 95% CI, 2.93–8.60; p<0.001); maternal occupation of teacher, healthcare professional, or official (aOR, 2.39; 95% CI, 1.13–5.03; p=0.022); longer duration of family separation or divorce (aOR, 1.24; 95% CI, 1.05–1.45; p=0.009); living with one’s mother (aOR, 1.69; 95% CI, 1.03–2.76; p=0.04); alcohol consumption (aOR, 1.70; 95% CI, 0.99–2.92; p=0.050); and being bullied (aOR, 5.33; 95% CI, 1.10–25.69; p=0.037). Most of these factors were associated with stress, anxiety, and depression. Additionally, smoking was associated with stress.Conclusion: Adolescents with separated or divorced parents were at increased risk of stress, anxiety, and depression. The findings of this study provide important implications for prevention programs.

        Measuring Trusts And The Effects On The Consumers’ Buying Behavior

        Purpose: Trust plays an important role in e-commerce because consumers perceive more risk involved with this type of shopping than traditional way of shopping. Trust is defined as complex and multidimensional issue. This paper argues that trust should be considered to have two important components as trust belief and trust intention, in which trust belief has three components as competence, integrity and benevolence. Research design, data and methodology: This study examines the relationship between retailer website quality (web design, navigation, information), reputation and risk toward trust. In addition, trust and risk toward buying behavior are also considered, leading to customer satisfaction. The paper is conducted on a sample of 594 customers with direct experience of online shopping in Vietnam. Both confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and a structural equation model (SEM) were utilised. Results: Empirical findings from this paper indicate that trust is high order construct. Website quality and reputation have positive impacts on customers‘ trust. Trust has a positive relationship to buying behavior and customers‘ satisfaction while perceived risk has negative relationship to buying behavior. In contrast, a relationship between perceived risk and trust is not supported in this study. Conclusions: Improving reputation and website quality (especially information) may increase customers‘ trust and eventually lead to purchase decision.

      • Diagnosis of shockable rhythms for automated external defibrillators using a reliable support vector machine classifier

        <P>Sudden cardiac arrest is mainly caused by ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia, which are known as shockable rhythms. In this paper, a detection algorithm of shockable rhythms including support vector machine (SVM) model uses the public electrocardiogram (ECG) databases for training and testing. The databases are the Creighton University Ventricular Tachyarrhythmia Database (CUDB) and the MIT-BIH Malignant Ventricular Arrhythmia Database (VFDB). At first, to compose a set of good features, we extend a well-known set of 2 good features such as Count2 and VF-filter Leakage Measure (Lk). We supplemented 5 more good features, selected based on a binary genetic algorithm-based feature selection, among 11 new input candidate features. All the combinations of 7 good features are estimated for their performance on the training and the testing data using the SVM models to identify 6 combinations of the final feature pool. 5-Folds cross validation is then implemented carefully to validate the performance of the SVM classifier using final feature pool on separated and entire 5s-segment databases. The final combination of 4 features, which includes Count2, Lk, Threshold Crossing Interval (TCI), and Centroid Frequency (CF), is addressed by the highest validation performance of the corresponding SVM model. The Count2 shows the proportion of the signal, which is above the mean absolute values of the output of an integer coefficient recursive bandpass filter computed for every 1 s time interval. The Lk represents the output of a narrow bandstop filter, which is applied to the ECG signal with the central frequency being the mean signal frequency. The TCI shows the average time between the fixed thresholds, which are computed for every] s-segment using the pulses converted from the ECG signal. The CF is the frequency, which bisects vertically the area under the power spectrum. For the proposed algorithm, the average accuracy of 95.9%, sensitivity of 91.7%, and specificity of 96.8% are archived on the evaluation data of the entire database. Comparing to the performance of the SVM model using a combination of the Count2 and the Lk, we report a significant improvement for the accuracy of the SVM model using the final feature combination in average, i.e. 2.6%, 22.4%, and 2.7% on the evaluation data of the entire database, the CUDB, and the VFDB, respectively. Furthermore, existence of ventricular ectopic beats in the input data shows a negligible influence on the final performance of classification. (C) 2018 Published by Elsevier Ltd.</P>
