A novel method for the parameter extraction of thin-fi lm transistors in weak-conduction and triode-region is presented. The parameter extraction is performed using two different and consistent functions based on the integration of experimental output characteristic. The method was tested using measured data of polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si) thin-film transistors (TFTs) and the results were compared with previously reported conventional methods.

During the last Argentine military dictatorship(1976-1983), a large-scale repressive apparatus was launched, which included articulating mechanisms between the Clandestine Centers for Detention, Torture and Extermination(CCDTyE) and public prisons, where around twelve thousand people were sent. The majority of the female political prisoners were held in the Villa Devoto prison, where they were subject to constant harassment and violence by the prison authorities, who constantly repeated to them that they would only leave that place crazy or dead. However, the women found a way to create community within the walls, and through deep solidarity they managed to generate collective strength in the face of violence. In this article, through the voices and narratives of several of the women who were held in this place, I will address some of the resistance mechanisms they applied, which allowed them not only to survive the harshness of prison but also to restore their dignity and humanity that the dictatorship intended to deny them.

Band-gap engineering of Cd_1-xZn_xTe films deposited by pulsed laser deposition

We demonstrate enhanced band-gap tunability in Cd<SUB>1-x</SUB>Zn<SUB>x</SUB>Te thin films (x=0, 0.03, 0.06, 0.1, 0.2, or 1) fabricated directly from Cd<SUB>1-x</SUB>Zn<SUB>x</SUB>Te targets using pulsed laser deposition (PLD). All the Cd<SUB>1-x</SUB>Zn<SUB>x</SUB>Te films have uniform thicknesses of ~200nm, crystalline sizes of ~20nm, and are highly oriented in the [111] direction. The annealed Cd<SUB>1-x</SUB>Zn<SUB>x</SUB>Te targets allow better compositional control of the Cd<SUB>1-x</SUB>Zn<SUB>x</SUB>Te films than non-annealed targets. This new process using a single target with high compositional uniformity provides better tunability of the Cd<SUB>1-x</SUB>Zn<SUB>x</SUB>Te film lattice parameter (6.49 to 6.09A) and band gap (1.48 to 2.22eV) by increasing the Zn concentration (x) from 0 to 1.

Informal Caregiving Patterns in Korea and European Countries: A Cross-National Comparison

Purpose: This ecological study examined demographic and institutional differences in informal caregiving. We conducted a cross-national study about the characteristics of informal caregivers in 12European countries and Korea. Methods: Data were collected from individuals aged 50 years and older participating in the 2004/2005Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe and the 2006 Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing. We examined the associations between informal caregiving and macrolevel characteristics (gross domestic product, total fertility rates, labor force participation rates, level of women’s empowerment,long-term care resources). Results: Korea and some southern European countries, notably Spain and Italy, had high percentages of women, homemakers, coresidents, and spouses in informal caregiving roles. In contrast, Northern European countries such as Denmark and Sweden had high proportions of employed informal caregivers. Lower female labor force participation was associated with higher proportions of women caregivers. A higher proportion of women caregivers in the population were also associated with a lower national gross domestic product per capita. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that several contextual and institutional variables are associated with the proportion of women participating in caregiving. Matrices similar to centrosymmetric matrices

In this paper we give conditions on a matrix which guarantee that it is similar to a centrosymmetric matrix. We use this conditions to show that some $4 \times 4$ and $6 \times 6$ Toeplitz matrices are similar to centrosymmetric matrices. Furthermore, we give conditions for a matrix to be similar to a matrix which has a centrosymmetric principal submatrix, and conditions under which a matrix can be dilated to a matrix similar to a centrosymmetric matrix.

A Novel, Reactive Green Iron Sulfide (Sulfide Green Rust) Formed on Iron Oxide Nanocrystals

<P>Iron oxide nanocrystals are of great scientific and technological interest. In this work, these materials are the starting point for producing a reactive nanoparticle whose surface resembles that of natural green rusts. Treatment of iron oxide nanoparticles with cysteamine leads to the reduction of iron and the formation of a brilliant green aqueous solution of nanocrystals rich in iron(II). These materials remained crystalline with magnetic and structural features of the original iron oxide. However, new low-angle X-ray diffraction peaks as well as vibrational features characteristic of cysteamine were found in the nanocrystalline product. X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), X-ray photoemission (XPS) and Mössbauer spectroscopies indicated the presence of an iron(II)-rich phase with high sulfur content analogous to the iron–oxygen structures found in natural green rusts. Electron microscopy found that these structural components remained associated with the nonreduced iron oxide cores. These sulfur-rich analogs of natural green rusts are highly reactive and were able to rapidly degrade a model organic dye in water.
