Lipomatosis: a diverse form of hemifacial hyperplasia

Arora, Preeti Chawla,Umarji, Hemant R.,Arora, Aman,Ramaswami, Easwaran Korean Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology 2012 Imaging Science in Dentistry Vol.42 No.3

A case of hemifacial hyperplasia that presented with muscular, skeletal, and dental hyperplasia along with lipomatous infiltration was described. Advanced imaging was useful in identifying the lipomatous infiltration present in the lesion, which raises the possibility of lipomatosis having a diverse presentation in hemifacial hyperplasia. As there was a scarcity of related literature in the field of dentomaxillofacial radiology, this report would make us familiar with its computed tomographic and magnetic resonance image findings.

        Multicriteria Quadratic Plant Location Problem

Sudha Arora,S.R. Arora 한국경영과학회 2008 Management Science and Financial Engineering Vol.14 No.1

In this paper, we have considered the multicriteria quadratic plant location problem. In addition to the allocation costs, the maintenance costs of the plants are also considered. The objective functions considered in this paper are quadratic in nature. The given problem is reduced to the problem with linear objective function. The method of Fernandez and Puerto (2003) is applied to solve the reduced problem. It is illustrated with help of examples. The effect of the change in the allocation and maintenance costs on allocation of plants to the clients has also been discussed.

      • Ecofriendly Anaerobic Ammonium Oxidation System: Optimum Operation and Inhibition Control Strategies for Enhanced Nitrogen Removal

        Arora, Amarpreet Singh,Nawaz, Alam,Yun, Chao Mun,Cho, Hwanchul,Lee, Moonyong American Chemical Society 2019 INDUSTRIAL & ENGINEERING CHEMISTRY RESEARCH - Vol.58 No.45

In practice, the complete autotrophic nitrogen removal or partial-nitritation (PN) and anaerobic ammonium oxidation (ANAMMOX) process (PN/A) has gained immense popularity and widespread application owing to its low operational cost and better treatment possibilities. However, ANAMMOX-based systems are inhibited by numerous factors that pose enormous challenge to the success of this technology. Hence, in lieu of finding optimum operational strategies, a PN/A sequencing batch reactor for treating high-strength ammonia wastewater obtained from an anaerobic digester was evaluated for 400 days. The impact of processing unit cycle strategies on process performance was evaluated with the amalgamation of intermittent feeding and aeration. The ecofriendly and eco-efficient system, adopted in this study, ensured enhanced cost-effective nitrogen removal along with reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions underlying stringent regulation. Nitrogen removal rate of 81% along with 68% reduction in GHG emissions compared to the conventional nitrification/denitrification system (29% lower than the last reported ANAMMOX system) was successfully achieved. The key concerns in negating the impacts of ANAMMOX inhibition caused by the seven most influential parameters/mechanisms are also addressed.
[FIG OMISSION]

Credit Risk Measurement Practices in Indian Commercial Banks - An Empirical Investigation

Arora, Swaranjeet KNU The Institute of Management Economy Research 2014 Asia-Pacific Journal of Business Vol.5 No.2

Banking institutions have been facing variety of difficulties but the major cause of serious banking problems relates to lax credit standards for borrowers and counterparties, poor portfolio risk management, or a lack of attention to changes in economic or other circumstances that can lead to deterioration in the credit standing of a bank's counterparties. Although credit risk is an important factor that financial institutions should cope with, but the determinants of measuring credit risk have been studied less. This paper attempts to explore the determinants of credit risk measurement and to identify the factors that contribute to credit risk measurement practices in Indian banks and to compare credit risk measurement practices followed by Indian public and private sector banks, the empirical study has been conducted and views of employees of various banks have been tested using statistical tools. This study explored the phenomenon from different perspectives and revealed that single-name credit risk measurement and portfolio credit risk measurement are the key components that contribute to credit risk measurement in Indian banks. From the descriptive and analytical results, it can be concluded that Indian banks efficiently measure credit risk. The results also indicate that there is a significant difference between the Indian public and private sector banks in single-name credit risk measurement while, these banks do not significantly differ in portfolio credit risk measurement aspect.

      • Cross Sectional Survey on Association between Alcohol, Betel-Nut, Cigarette Consumption and Health Promoting Behavior of Industrial Workers in Ghaziabad

Arora, Dimple,Marya, Charu Mohan,Menon, Ipseeta,Oberoi, Sukhvinder Singh,Dhingra, Chandan,Anand, Richa Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.1

Background: The work force in industries are at risk of developing unduly high rates of health and behaviour related problems including abuse of alcohol, betel nut and cigarette (alcohol, betel nut and cigarette consumption). This study describes the relationships between alcohol, betel nut and cigarette consumption and health promoting behaviour among industrial workers. Materials and Methods: A cross sectional survey was conducted on workers in various industries of Ghaziabad city with concerned authority permission. A sample size of 732 workers was calculated based on pilot study. Through Simple random sampling 732 workers in 20 to 50 years age group with informed consent were interviewed through structured, pretested, validated questionnaire in vernacular language by one calibrated investigator. Data on socio demography, alcohol, betel nut and cigarette consumption pattern and health behaviour were collected. The association between health promoting behaviour and alcohol, betel nut and cigarette consumption was analysed by Logistic regression and Chi-square test through SPSS 16 at p<0.05 and 95%CI as significant. Results: Total prevalence of alcohol, betel nut and cigarette consumption in study population was 88%. The prevalence of individual alcohol, betel nut and cigarette consumption were 82%, 68% and 79% respectively. Combined alcohol, betel nut and cigarette prevalence in study population was 58%. Alcohol and cigarette users were significantly higher (p<0.001) in 30 to 40 years age group with lower level of education having poor attitude towards health promoting behaviour, poor oral hygiene practices and rare indulgence in regular physical exercise. Conclusions: This study stimulate further research on exploring methods to prevent initiation of health risk behaviour and promote healthy behaviour with cessation help for the current alcohol, betel nut and cigarette users.

miR-9 and let-7g enhance the sensitivity to ionizing radiation by suppression of $NF{\kappa}B1$

Arora, Himanshu,Qureshi, Rehana,Jin, Shunzi,Park, Ae-Kyoung,Park, Woong-Yang Korean Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Bion 2011 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.43 No.5

The activation of nuclear factor-kappa B1 ($NF{\kappa}B1$) in cancer cells may confer resistance to ionizing radiation (IR). To enhance the therapeutic efficiency of IR in lung cancer, we screened for microRNAs (miRNAs) that suppress $NF{\kappa}B1$ and observed their effects on radiosensitivity in a human lung cancer cell line. From time series data of miRNA expression in ${\gamma}$-irradiated H1299 human lung cancer cells, we found that the expression of miR-9 was inversely correlated with that of $NF{\kappa}B1$. Overexpression of miR-9 down-regulated the level of $NF{\kappa}B1$ in H1299 cells, and the surviving fraction of ${\gamma}$-irradiated cells was decreased. Interestingly, let-7g also suppressed the expression of $NF{\kappa}B1$, although there was no canonical target site for let-7g in the $NF{\kappa}B1$ 3' untranslated region. From these results, we conclude that the expression of miR-9 and let-7g could enhance the efficiency of radiotherapy for lung cancer treatment through the inhibition of $NF{\kappa}B1$.

Evaluation of Genetic Effects of Demographic Bottleneck in Muzzafarnagri Sheep from India Using Microsatellite Markers

Arora, R.,Bhatia, S. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2009 Animal Bioscience Vol.22 No.1

Genetic variability is an important component in the ability of populations to adapt in the face of environmental change. Severe human impacts reduced Muzzafarnagri sheep of India from 500,000 in 1972 to 10,989 in 1973-74. Here we report for the first time the effect of this population decline on levels of genetic variability at 13 FAO recommended ovine microsatellite loci and contrast levels of variability to that in a breed from the same geographical region, which differed in numbers, by an order of magnitude (Marwari sheep). Of the 13 loci, 100% were polymorphic in both breeds. A high degree of genetic variation was observed within populations in terms of both allele diversity (number of alleles per locus, >4) and gene diversity (expected heterozygosity, >0.5), which implied that there is still a substantial amount of genetic diversity at the nuclear loci in a declining population. Nevertheless, overall low number of alleles per locus and relatively less abundance of low frequency alleles in Muzzafarnagri sheep suggested that genetic variability has been comparatively reduced in this population. Bottleneck analysis indicated that a genetic bottleneck did not occur during the most recent decline. In addition, we found that the differentiation among populations was moderate ($F_{ST}$= 11.8%). This study on assessment of genetic effects of the population declines in ovines is a step towards identification of genetically impoverished or healthy populations, which could prove to be a useful tool to facilitate conservation planning in this important species of small ruminants.
