        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Present paper deals with the performance of imidazoline derivatives (ATs) as corrosion inhibitor for J55 steel in oil field formation water saturated with CO<SUB>2</SUB>. The inhibition effectiveness of AT-1 was found to 90% at 400 mg/L. Inhibitors addition decreases cathodic as well anodic current densities, and significantly strengthens impedance parameters. Contact angle and SEM/AFM/SECM measurements predicts the hydrophobicity and surface morphology of steel, respectively. Density functional theory (DFT) and molecular dynamic simulation (MD) calculations were performed to investigate the adsorption mechanism of ATs. Radial distribution function (RDF) and the mean-square displacement (MSD) were used to study inhibitor/metal interactions and migration rate of corrosive species, respectively.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> J55 steel protection in oil field formation water saturated with carbon dioxide by ATs molecules. </LI> <LI> Potentiodynamic polarization curves reveal that the actions of inhibitors are mixed type but cathodically predominat. </LI> <LI> Examination of surface morphology by SEM, SECM and AFM. </LI> <LI> Correlation of experimental results with Quantum chemical, molecular dynamic stimulation, radial distribution functions and mean-square displacement results. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

        Plant derived cationic dye as an effective corrosion inhibitor for 7075 aluminum alloy in 3.5% NaCl solution

        The inhibition of the corrosion of 7075 aluminum alloy in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution by 5,6-dihydro-9,10-dimethoxybenzo[g]-1,3-benzodioxolo[5,6-a]quinolizinium (berberine) has been studied using electrochemicalimpedance spectroscopy (EIS), potentiodynamic polarization, scanning electrochemicalmicroscopy (SECM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Inhibition efficiency was found toincrease with increasing concentration of berberine. The adsorption of the berberine on the 7075aluminum alloy surface obeyed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The adsorbed film on 7075aluminum alloy surface containing inhibitor was confirmed by the SEM, and SECM. The results obtainedshowed that the berberine could serve as an effective inhibitor of the corrosion of 7075 aluminum alloyin 3.5% NaCl.

        Efficacy and safety of hydroxychloroquine in osteoarthritis: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

        Background/Aims: Conventional disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs have been trialed in osteoarthritis (OA). Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ), which has shown its effectiveness in rheumatoid arthritis, has been trialed for the treatment of OA; however, its efficacy and safety remain unclear. This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluate efficacy and safety of HCQ for the treatment of OA. Methods: MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Cochrane Central were searched from inception through June 2020. Two reviewers independently screened for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing HCQ with placebo or other active-comparators for the treatment of knee, hand, or hip OA, extracted data, and performed Cochrane risk of bias assessments. Results: Six RCTs, four in hand OA, two in knee OA, consisting of 842 patients (436 in HCQ arm, 406 in control arm) were included. RCTs were conducted between 2012 and 2020, one each at UK, Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Iran, and Egypt; follow-up period ranged 24 to 52 weeks. High-quality evidence showed no clinically important pain reduction with HCQ compared to placebo/active-control in hand OA (standardized mean difference [SMD], 0.14; 95% confidence interval [CI], -0.20 to 0.48). Effect on pain reduction in knee and hand OA was small and non-significant (SMD, -0.09; 95% CI, -0.44 to 0.25). High-quality evidence showed no improvement in dysfunction with HCQ compared to placebo in hand OA patients (SMD, 0.08; 95% CI, -0.23 to 0.40). Effect on dysfunction improvement in knee and hand OA was modest and statistically non-significant (SMD, -0.20; 95% CI, -0.57 to 0.18). No improvement in quality of life was observed in hand OA. Conclusions: HCQ has no benefit in reducing pain and improving physical function in hand or knee OA patients.

        Corrosion inhibition of mild steel in hydrochloric acid by some pyridine derivatives: An experimental and quantum chemical study

        The adsorption and corrosion inhibition effect of three pyridine derivatives namely 2-amino-6- methoxy-4-(4-methoxylphenyl) pyridine-3,5-dicarbonitrile (PC-1), 2-amino-6-methoxy-4-(4-methyl- phenyl) pyridine-3,5-dicarbonitrile (PC-2) and 2-amino-6-methoxy-4-phenylpyridine-3,5-dicarboni- trile (PC-3) on mild steel in 1 M HCl was investigated using gravimetric, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, potentiodynamic polarization techniques and quantum chemical study. PCs are mixed- type inhibitor mainly cathodic. Activation energy (Ea), equilibrium constant (Kads), free energy of adsorption (DG8ads) were calculated and discussed. The studied inhibitors (PCs) obeyed Langmuir’s adsorption isotherm. Protective film of PCs on mild steel surface was investigated by using SEM and EDX. Quantum chemical parameters were carried out in the framework of the density functional theory (DFT).

      • The inhibition action of analgin on the corrosion of mild steel in acidic medium: A combined theoretical and experimental approach

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The corrosion inhibitive property of analgin on mild steel in 1 M HCl was determined for the first time by using experimental and theoretical studies. Weight loss results showed that analgin showed 96.1% inhibition efficiency at 4000 ppm and 298 K. Results showed that analgin acts as a mixed type inhibitor. Effect of concentration of inhibitor and temperature on corrosion inhibition efficiency has been studied. Effect of kinetic and thermodynamic parameters has also been reported. Results show that adsorption of analgin on metal surface follows Langmuir adsorption isotherm. A detailed theoretical data was obtained from Molecular dynamic simulations and quantum chemical calculations using density functional theory (DFT). All the combined results showed appreciable inhibition efficiencies. The morphological and topographical studies were done by SEM and AFM techniques. All the results were in good agreement with each other.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Corrosion protection properties of analgin have been investigated. </LI> <LI> Potentiodynamic polarization curves reveal that tested inhibitor act as mixed type. </LI> <LI> The adsorption of inhibitor obeys Langmuir adsorption isotherm. </LI> <LI> Surface morphology was examined by SEM and AFM. </LI> <LI> The experimental results were correlated with quantum chemical and molecular dynamic stimulation results. </LI> </UL> </P>
