A Design of Electromechanical Valve Control System using Model Predictive Controller

This paper considers an implementation of model predictive controller for an electro mechanical valve. A teach sampling time in stants, the controller sends optimum control input to the system. In order to simplify the calcula-tion process with in controller, we solve the control input as algebraic calculation rather than two-point boundary value problem. We also use adisturbance observer to provide information of armaturevalve velocity, and to improve EMV robustness. The proposed control scheme is demonstrated on experimental test bed. The performance model predictive controller with adisturbance observer is compared experimentally to model predictive controller with are gularfll order observer.

This paper proposes two control techniques to provide robust tracking for magnetic levitation systems (MLS): model-free control (MFC) and robust proportional-integral-derivative (PID) control. The proposed MFC does not require a mathematical model. The MFC uses a stabilising local PID controller and a continuous saturation function of a sliding surface. The local stabilising control is achieved through a trial-and-error method, while the other parameters in the sliding surface are tuned to achieve the required tracking and robustness objectives. For robust PID controller, a linear model of MLS is derived. The robustness, tracking, and transient problems are formulated using the H∞ theory and solved using the genetic algorithm. Experimental verifications are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed controllers.

The study of the in vitro cell growth of mycobacteria still remains a fastidious, difficult, and time-consuming procedure. In addition, assessing mycobacterial growth in the laboratory is often complicated by cell aggregation and slow growth-rate. We now report that the use of a stainless steel spring in the culture led to an absence of large cell clumps, to a decrease of dead cells in the exponential phase and to growth of a more homogeneous population of large cells. We also report that flow cytometry is a rapid, simple and reliable approach to monitor mycobacterial cell growth and viability. Here, we monitored Mycobacterium smegmatis cellular growth by optical density, dry cell mass, and colony forming units; in addition, viability, cell size and granularity profiles were analyzed by flow cytometry, and cell morphology by electron microscopy. Cultures monitored by flow cytometry may lead to a better understanding of the physiology of mycobacteria. Moreover, this methodology may aid in characterizing the cell growth of other fastidious species of microorganisms.
Search for heavy long-lived charged particles with the ATLAS detector in pp collisions at s=7 TeV

A search for long-lived charged particles reaching the muon spectrometer is performed using a data sample of 37 pb<SUP>-1</SUP> from pp collisions at s=7 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC in 2010. No excess is observed above the estimated background. Stable τ@? sleptons are excluded at 95% CL up to a mass of 136 GeV, in GMSB models with N<SUB>5</SUB>=3, m<SUB>messenger</SUB>=250 TeV, sign(μ)=1 and tanβ=5. Electroweak production of sleptons is excluded up to a mass of 110 GeV. Gluino R-hadrons in a generic interaction model are excluded up to masses of 530 GeV to 544 GeV depending on the fraction of R-hadrons produced as g@?-balls.

SIS는 공정안전시스템 분야에서 폭넓게 활용될 수 있는 계장안전시스템이다. SIS는 유해화학물질 누출 사고로부터 인간, 물질적 자산 그리고 환경에 미치는 피해를 줄이기 위해 필수적이다. 현재 전기, 전자 그리고 프로그래밍 가능한 전자 (E / E/ PE) 장치가 기계, 공압 및 유압 시스템과 상호 작용하는 통합 안전 시스템은 IEC 61508과 같은 국제 안전 표준을 따르도록 되어있다. IEC 61508은 안전 수명주기의 모든 사항을 규정한다. SIS 지원 도구 없이 안전 수명주기에 따라 IEC 61508의 요구 사항을 충족시키는 것은 복잡한 일이다. 본 연구에서는, 사용자가 보다 쉽게 안전 수명주기의 설계 단계를 구현할 수 있도록 도움을 줄 수 있는 On-Line SIS 지원 도구를 제시하였다. On-Line SIS 지원 도구는 데이터 읽기 및 수정 시스템과 통합될 수 있는 안드로이드 응용 프로그램의 형태로 되어있다. 이 도구는 안전 수명주기의 설계 단계에서 소요되는 계산 시간을 줄이고 계산 과정에서 발생할 수 있는 오류를 줄인다. 또한 On-Line SIS 지원 도구는 비용 요소에 근거한 최적화 접근법을 제시할 수 있으며, multi-objective GA를 사용하여 최적의 솔루션 조합을 찾을 수 있도록 하였다. Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) have wide application area. They are of vital importance at process plants to detect the onset of hazardous events, for instance, a release of some hazardous material, and for mitigating their consequences to humans, material assets, and the environment. The integrated safety systems, where electrical, electronic, and/or programmable electronic (E/E/PE) devices interact with mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems are governed by international safety standards like IEC 61508. IEC 61508 organises its requirements according to a Safety Life Cycle (SLC). Fulfilling these requirements following the SLC can be complex without the aid of SIS supporting tools. This paper presents simple SIS support tool which can greatly help the user to implement the design phase of the safety lifecycle. This tool is modelled in the form of Android application which can be integrated with a Web-based data reading and modifying system. This tool can reduce the computation time spent on the design phase of the SLC and reduce the possible errors which can arise in the process. In addition, this paper presents an optimization approach to SISs based on cost measures. The multi-objective genetic algorithm has been used for the optimization to search for the best combinations of solutions without enumeration of all the solution space.
FUZZY HOMOMORPHISM THEOREMS ON GROUPS

In this paper we introduce the notion of a fuzzy kernel of a fuzzy homomorphism on groups and we show that it is a fuzzy normal subgroup of the domain group. Conversely, we also prove that any fuzzy normal subgroup is a fuzzy kernel of some fuzzy epimorphism, namely the canonical fuzzy epimorphism. Finally, we formulate and prove the fuzzy version of the fundamental theorem of homomorphism and those isomorphism theorems.

This paper examines the effects of specimen length and grade on the strength and stiffness properties of structural timber of radiata pine. The tensile strength and modulus of elasticity of 1,902 machine-graded boards with 3.15- and 1.62-m clear span lengths, were determined using a horizontal tension test machine. The mean failure and characteristic stress values for tensile strength show an extremely high dependency on test specimen length. The mean and characteristic values of both modulus of elasticity and tensile strength show significant dependency on machine stress grades.
