<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A detailed study of the structure of the doubly mid-shell nucleus Dy 104 1 66 170 has been carried out, following isomeric and <I>β</I> decay. We have measured the yrast band up to the spin-parity <SUP> J π </SUP> = <SUP> 6 + </SUP> state, the K = 2 <I>γ</I>-vibration band up to the <SUP> 5 + </SUP> state, a low-lying negative-parity band based on a <SUP> 2 − </SUP> state that could be a candidate for the lowest energy octupole vibration state within this nucleus, and a candidate for the <SUP> K π </SUP> = <SUP> 6 + </SUP> two quasi-particle isomer. This state was determined to have an excitation energy of 1643.91(23) keV and a half life of 0.99(4) μs, with a reduced hindrance for its decay to the ground-state band an order of magnitude lower than predicted by <SUB> N p </SUB> <SUB> N n </SUB> systematics. This is interpreted as being due to <I>γ</I>-vibrational mixing from a near degeneracy of the isomer and the <SUP> 6 + </SUP> state of the <I>γ</I> band. Furthermore, the parent nucleus <SUP>170</SUP>Tb has been determined to have a half-life of 0.91 ( − 13 + 18 ) s with a possible spin-parity of <SUP> 2 − </SUP> .</P>

<P><B>Electrons that flow like a fluid</B></P><P>Electrons inside a conductor are often described as flowing in response to an electric field. This flow rarely resembles anything like the familiar flow of water through a pipe, but three groups describe counterexamples (see the Perspective by Zaanen). Moll <I>et al.</I> found that the viscosity of the electron fluid in thin wires of PdCoO<SUB>2</SUB> had a major effect on the flow, much like what happens in regular fluids. Bandurin <I>et al.</I> found evidence in graphene of electron whirlpools similar to those formed by viscous fluid flowing through a small opening. Finally, Crossno <I>et al.</I> observed a huge increase of thermal transport in graphene, a signature of so-called Dirac fluids.</P><P><I>Science</I>, this issue p. 1061, 1055, 1058; see also p. 1026</P><P>Interactions between particles in quantum many-body systems can lead to collective behavior described by hydrodynamics. One such system is the electron-hole plasma in graphene near the charge-neutrality point, which can form a strongly coupled Dirac fluid. This charge-neutral plasma of quasi-relativistic fermions is expected to exhibit a substantial enhancement of the thermal conductivity, thanks to decoupling of charge and heat currents within hydrodynamics. Employing high-sensitivity Johnson noise thermometry, we report an order of magnitude increase in the thermal conductivity and the breakdown of the Wiedemann-Franz law in the thermally populated charge-neutral plasma in graphene. This result is a signature of the Dirac fluid and constitutes direct evidence of collective motion in a quantum electronic fluid.</P>

<P>Zero- and one-dimensional metal nanocrystals were successfully fabricated with accurate control in size, shape, and position on semiconductor surfaces by using a novel <I>in situ</I> fabrication method of the nanocrystal with a biasing tungsten tip in transmission electron microscopy. The dominant mechanism of nanocrystal formation was identified mainly as local Joule heating-assisted electromigration through the direct observation of formation and growth processes of the nanocrystal. This method was applied to extracting metal atoms with an exceedingly faster growth rate (∼10<SUP>5</SUP> atoms/s) from a metal-oxide thin film to form a metal nanocrystal with any desired size and position. <P>A new isomer with a half-life of 23.0(8) ms has been identified at 2406 keV in (126)Pd and is proposed to have a spin and parity of 10(+) with a maximally aligned configuration comprising two neutron holes in the 1h(11/2) orbit. In addition to an internal-decay branch through a hindered electric octupole transition, β decay from the long-lived isomer was observed to populate excited states at high spins in (126)Ag. The smaller energy difference between the 10(+) and 7(-) isomers in (126)Pd than in the heavier N=80 isotones can be interpreted as being ascribed to the monopole shift of the 1h(11/2) neutron orbit. The effects of the monopole interaction on the evolution of single-neutron energies below (132)Sn are discussed in terms of the central and tensor forces.</P>
Evaluating Fuzzy Voice Commands by User Guided Visual Attention for Controlling a Robot Manipulator

This paper proposes a method for evaluating fuzzy voice commands(FVCs) by user guided visual attention. FVCs inherit fuzzy linguistic information due to the inclusion of fuzzy linguistic terms such as “verylittle.” The contextual meaning of such information depends on the environmental arrangement. Therefore, visual attention system(VAS) is utilized to evaluate the fuzzy linguistic information based on the environmental conditions. It is implemented by assuming that the corresponding distance value for aparticular FVC depends on the spatialar rangement of the surrounding object in the environment. A fuzzy logic based voice command evaluation system(VCES) is proposed to assess the fuzzy linguistic information in user commands. In addition, the user has been given the freedom to adjust command evaluation process by changing the attention level. It is achieved by using attentive voice commands such as “move carefully.” A situation of object manipulation by navigating the tip of a robot manipulator through the user’s working space is demonstrated to illustrate the sysem where a PA-10 robot manipulator is used.
Effects of Elastic Behaviours of Dies and Servo Press Machine on Deep Drawing Process

Various characteristic features of elastic deformation of dies and presses during deep drawing were presented. It was very important to examine the effects of elastic deformation of these units on product accuracy. Strains were measured on the press system including dies, a slide and a bolster of a servo press. A strain magnitude of 63 ×10<SUP>-6</SUP> was obtained when the overall slide position was at the lowest point. Two slide motions of the servo press were selected to determine appropriate manufacturing conditions. An elastic deformation analysis of the die structure was then required by CAD simulation. To find the appropriate die structure model, the vertical displacement of the die structure in the CAD simulation only was compared to the experiment results. It was found that the vertical displacement of the die structure was 0.176 mm at the top surface of the die considering elastic deformation of the die structure as well as the bolster of the servo press.

An in-situ monitoring system for sintering shrinkage was devised to study the nonuniform deformation of injection moulded powder compacts. The monitoring system is based on the digital image correlation method and has a modified image processing software compared to the conventional method. The system consists of a bell-type sintering furnace and an optical image processing set-up, enabling one to measure two- and three-dimensional changes in the compacts during sintering on a non-contact and real time basis. Nonuniform and anisotropic sintering shrinkage was precisely determined for two types of complex-shaped powder compacts of stainless steel (SUS304) prepared by metal injection moulding at room temperatures up to 1543 K.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The neutron-rich isotopes of palladium have attracted considerable interest in terms of the evolution of the N = 82 neutron shell closure and its influence on the <I>r</I>-process nucleosynthesis. In this Letter, we present the first spectroscopic information on the excited states in <SUP>125</SUP>Pd<SUB>79</SUB> and <SUP>127</SUP>Pd<SUB>81</SUB> studied using the EURICA <I>γ</I>-ray spectrometer, following production via in-flight fission of a high-intensity <SUP>238</SUP>U beam at the RIBF facility. New isomeric states with half-lives of 144(4) ns and 39(6) μs have been assigned spins and parities of ( 23 / <SUP> 2 + </SUP> ) and ( 19 / <SUP> 2 + </SUP> ) in <SUP>125</SUP>Pd and <SUP>127</SUP>Pd, respectively. The observed level properties are compared to a shell-model calculation, suggesting the competition between proton excitations and neutron excitations in the proton-hole and neutron-hole systems in the vicinity of the doubly magic nucleus <SUP>132</SUP>Sn.</P>
Evaluating Fuzzy Voice Commands by Internal Rehearsal for Controlling a Robot Manipulator

This paper proposes a method fore valuating fuzzy voice commands(FVCs) by internal rehearsal. The robot’s experience on previous movements is very useful forunder standing fuzzy linguistic information. Therefore, an internal rehearsal system is introduced to acquire the robot’s experience on previous movements. Such acquisition enhances the robot’s capability to interpret fuzzy linguistic information in FVCs according to the current environmental context The proposed system is used to evaluate the fuzzy linguistic information related to the primitive movements of a robot manipulator. Those primitive movements are realized by behavior evaluation network(BEN) with the guidance of the internal rehearsal system. Mainly, the system is utilized to understand fuzzy voice motion commands(FVMCs) and fuzzy voice joint commands(FVJCs) for controlling the end-effect or movements and the single joint movements of the robot manipulator. The proposed idea is demonstrated with a PA-10 robot manipulator.
