Fermentation processes have been employed to produce 17-ketosteroids from sterol with chelator of Fe$^{2+}$ such as $\alpha$, ${\alpha}'$-dipyriyl. To analyze the products of sterol fermentation, we developed a simple TLC method without interference of the chelator $\alpha$, ${\alpha}'$-dipyridyl, using Ag$^+$ band on TLC plate.

Abstract Man has long fought innumerable menaces threatening his existence. It is too optimistic to expect that the present crisis can be overcome as we have reached the present cultural life by overcoming all those previous intimidations. Present situation of crisis is the most serious more than any of its kind experienced by mankind since the emergence of Home-sapiens. That crisis, with mankind as a common lot, is a matter of life and death. Is it really possible that the crisis of today like this can be solved only through the endeavors of natural scientists? Today's crisis is characterized by its vastness and suddenness. Therefore, anticrisis measures naturally have to be synthetic, long-term, and systematic. Those countermeasures expect first the role of social sciences, particularly political science. That is because political science handles political phenomena characterized by adjustment of interests through power. It any cases, revision of mental orientation and social relationship should be the prerequisites for the fundamental solution of present crisis, for considering the primitive motives of present crisis, the fundamental solution is possible through changing our mental tradition, and the concrete implementation of crisis-solving measures can only be possible through strong power of the state which regulates the social relation. With this in mind, I attempted to appreciate the meaning of freedom and the state in the standpoint of presets t crisis. In Chap.I, present critical situation is studied in ecologcial aspect. In Chap. II, I tried to find out some fundamental possibilities from man in himself for the solution of the crisis, connecting it to Chap. III is a logical basement. In the 1st Para.of Chap. III, the problems are pointed out which are brought about by the existed view of freedom, the absence of opposition. Consequently, the fundamental solution for the present crisis is asserted to be possible when the mainpoint of freedom moves from the "absence of oppositon" to "harmonious control. " In the 2nd Para. of Chap. III, it is insisted that such a concept of freedom should be acquired by education, and comtemporary education has to put a higher priority of value in ethical point lather than indiscreet pick-up of knowledge. In the 3rd Para. of Chap. III, necessity of enlarged role of the state is maintained to be required considering the state as an actual actor who is capable of breaking the present crisis. I may be criticized for my magnifying the present crisis too far and standing only in the aide of pessimism. I will be satisfied, however, if my prepositions in this paper can be contributed to mitigate and 1iquidate the present situation even though a little.
Actinoplanes ferrugineus 세포추출액에 의한 Methylthioadenosine 대사중간생성물 확인

To identify intermediate(s) during the conversion of methylthioadenosine to methionine by cell-free extracts of Actinoplanes ferrugineus, a compound was isolated from the anaerobic incubation mixture of cell-free extracts and CH_3-[^14C]-methylthioadenosine, followed by 0.01 N-HCI hycrolysis. The compound was characterized through alkaline phosphatase treatment, NaBH_4 reduction, and NaBH_4 reduction-periodate oxidation reaction. The intermediate seemed to be 1-phospho-5-methylthio-5-deoxyribulose.
4 . Adenosine Diphosphate Ribose Pyrophosphatase from Rabbit Erythrocytes

A soluble enzyme has been isoated and partially purified from rabbit erythrocytes which catalyzes the hydrolysis of pyrophosphate bond of adenosine diphosphate-5'-ribose (ADP-5'ribose) to yield ribose-5'-phosphate and AMP: ADP-5'-ribose+H₂O → Ribose-5'-phosphate+AMP The enzyme shows optimal pH around 9.5 and requires Mg^(++) and inorganic phosphate for the maximal activity. It is heat-labile, and the inactivation during storage at 4 of the purified enzyme can be prevented by Mg^(++). The enzyme is highly specific for ADP-5'-ribose as substrate and does not attack pyrophosphate bonds of NAD, ATP and inorganic pyrophosphate. The apparent Michaelis constant for ADP-5'-ribose is 0.5 mM.
