Wavelength-Selective Polarizer Prepared by Using Glancing Angle Deposition

In this paper, the optical and the structural properties of a wavelength-selective polarizer made of narrow band pass filters (NBPFs) are presented. Anisotropic spacer layers were deposited in the NBPFs by using electron beam evaporation with a glancing angle deposition (GLAD) technique while mirror layers were deposited by a conventional evaporation method. TiO2, Ta2O5 and ZrO2 lms deposited by the GLAD technique at various oblique incident angles were investigated to select the right material for the spacer layer. The effects of TiO2 spacer layers with tilted, zigzag and helical structures on the wavelength-selective polarizer were also investigated. It is found that the maximum transmittance peak of the wavelength-selective polarizer with TiO2 zigzag spacer deposited by the GLAD technique is separated by 6 nm due to its birefringence.
Optical Properties of TiO2 Zigzag Films Prepared by Using Oblique Angle Deposition

We present the optical properties of TiO2 films with a zigzag structure fabricated by using an oblique angle deposition (OAD) technique. Two fixed orientations of the substrate, 90 different from each other, were used during the deposition. At each orientation, the zigzag structure of the TiO2 film was fabricated at an oblique angle of 60。 for the first half of the deposition and –60 for the second half. The in-plane birefringence of the TiO2 zigzag films deposited on glass substrate at the two different orientations was determined. For both orientations, the in-plane birefringence was found to be almost the same in magnitude, but opposite in sign. As an application, quarter-wave plates of zigzag structures were fabricated by using the OAD technique for both orientations of the substrate.

Hybrid-type extreme-ultraviolet attenuated phase-shift masks are designed by using an indium tin oxide (ITO) layer in the absorber stack and a Si layer in the (Mo/Si) multilayer stack. The designs provide not only a 180 phase-shift with a low attenuated reflectance ratio (<0.1) at the 13.5-nm wavelength, but also a high deep ultraviolet inspection contrast (>90 %) at the 257-nm wavelength. The height dierence between the reflecting multilayer stack and the absorbing stack in the hybrid-type attenuated phase-shift mask designs is reduced enough to minimize the geometric shadow effect in extreme ultraviolet lithography.

2012년 임진년을 맞이하여 정부가 예상하는 경제 성장률은 3.7%이며 2011년의 3.8%에 이어 계속 낮은 경제 성장을 예측하고 있다. 과거 80, 90년대의 높은 경제 성장률 시대는 이미 지나갔고 앞으로는 고용 없는 낮은 성장을 예상하고 있다. 특히 유럽의 재정위기 때문에 2012년에는 불확실성이 증가하고 이에 따라 경제가 더욱 어려울 것으로 예상하고 있으므로 광학산업도 이에 따른 영향을 받을 것으로 예측할 수 있다. 그러면 각 회사들은 이 위기를 어떻게 헤쳐 나가야 하는가? 아마도 현실에 안주하지 않는 도전정신으로 다가 올 경제 위기를 새로운 발전의 기회로 만들기 위해 각 사업체들은 미래를 대비한 다양한 준비를 R&D를 통하여 진행하고 있을 것으로 보인다.

늦은 용액증발법으로 제작한 유기단결정 para-toluene sulfonate의 비선형 광학상수 측정

서서히 용액을 증발시키는 늦은 용액증발법을 이용하여 유기단결정 p-toluene sulfonate(PTS) 덩어리와 박막을 제작하였다. 유기 단결정 PTS 덩어리는 Z-scan 방법을 이용하여 1600 nm, 95fs 레이저 광으로 3차와 5차 비선형 굴절률 $n_{2}$와 $n_{3}$를 측정하였으며, PTS 박막 도파관에서는 다중모드 출력을 관측하였다. 입력광의 세기가 2~5 GW/$cm^{2}$영역에서 PTS의 비선형 광학계수는 $n_{2}=6{\times}10^{-4}cm^{2}$/GW, $n_{3}=-7{\times}10^{-5}cm^{4}/GW^{2}$이고 2광자 흡수와 3광자 흡수는 없었다. 빛의 세기가 강한 5~16 GW/$cm^{2}$영역에서는 비선형 슈레딩거식과 빠른 푸리에변환 광전파방법을 이용하여 시료 내에서 전파광의 모양이 가우시안 광에서 왜곡되어 전파되는 것을 전산모의하였다. Organic single crystal of p-toluene sulfonate(PTS) bulks and thin films were fabricated using a slow solution evaporation method. Third and fifth order nonlinear refractive indices, $n_2$and $n_3$, of PTS crystals at 1600 nm were determined by the Z-scan method and the multimode output of the PTS thin film waveguide was observed at 1350 nm. When the beam intensity is in 2-5 GW/$cm^2$, the nonlinear refractive indices are $n_{2}=6{\times}10^{-4}cm^{2}$/GW and $n_{3}=-7{\times}10^{-5}cm^{4}/GW^{2}$ and the two and three photon absorption coefficients are zero. When the beam intensity is in 5~16 GW/$cm^2$, the split-step fast Fourier transform beam propagation method simulation shows that the beam propagation in the PTS is distorted from the gaussian shape.
Optical and Structural Properties of ZrO2 Thin Films Fabricated by Using Glancing Angle Deposition

In this paper, the optical and the structural properties of ZrO2 thin lms deposited by using electron beam evaporation with a glancing angle deposition (GLAD) technique are presented. The films prepared by using the glancing angle deposition technique were highly oriented structures composed of slanted columns and voids due to the shadow effect and limited adatom diffusion. The relationships among the refractive index, the porosity and the deposition angle were studied. The results show that the refractive index decreases and the porosity increases with increasing deposition angle. The in-plane birefringence of the ZrO2 thin lms was measured and it reached a maximum value of 0.038 at a deposition angle of 70˚. The microstructure and the morphology were also investigated by using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). We found that the optical anisotropy and the microstructure of the ZrO2 thin lms could be controlled by the GLAD technique.
