Vol.20 No.4

Employee‘s adoption for the Six Sigma program plays an important role in increasing an organization’s innovation performance in the service industry. This study investigates how Six Sigma has an influence on employees’ adoption for its implementation program in an ICT service company. Three critical software factors such as leadership, empowerment and reward were employed to measure employees’ adoption level which is highly associated with the successful implementation of the Six Sigma program. Using empirical survey data collected from 232 people in a case company, the relationships between three factors and Six Sigma adoption were examined via the structural equation modeling technique. The result reveals that leadership does not directly affect employee’s adoption in Six Sigma program, having an indirect effect on it through empowerment or/and reward. This will help top management achieve effective implementation of Six Sigma practices.

Vol.43 No.4

Purpose: Many firms have implemented Six Sigma in order to improve employee’s creativity and performance. However, few researchers have studied the effect of Six Sigma on performance through creativity process. This study aims to investigate the impact of Six Sigma, exploitation, and exploration on performance. Methods: Based on literature review, this paper develops hypotheses and tests them by employing a structural equations model. Using survey data of 209 Six Sigma experts who have conducted Six Sigma projects from different companies, this study empirically shows that the activities for Six Sigma enhance exploitation, exploration, and performance. Results: Six Sigma affects exploration and exploitation, each of which in turn enhances performance. It is noted that Six Sigma has an indirect influence on performance through exploitation and exploration. Conclusion: Apart from Parast(2011) who insists that Six Sigma is effective in improving exploitation rather than exploration, this study suggest that Six Sigma can affect both in order to enhance corporate performance.

Vol.40 No.2

This paper aims to develop the adequate quality cost model at a company which delivers ICT(information communication technology) services. One particular business unit was in the first instance selected and quality costs were then analysed at an organization level, for a department and for specific processes. Some areas were determined for quality improvement at each level and their causes were also investigated. However, the existing PAF(prevention, appraisal and failure) models reveled some limitations because the ICT services company included the different number of large and complicated business processes. The PAF model did not sufficiently highlight the detailed causes of failure costs. It did not also stimulate the relevant department`s strong responsibility to improve such problems. Both micro PAF and process cost models were proposed in order to cope with this. In final, it explains the relationship between six sigma and quality costing, suggesting how to use the quality costing results as a means of promoting either continuous improvement or innovation in a case company.

Vol.35 No.2

The case company has driven the six sigma innovation programme companywide for the last seven years without any stop in spite of the CEO change. There was neither any benchmark nor the sufficient number of internal experts during the initial stage of driving six sigma. However, the company raised a lot of innovation experts such as MBB, BB and GB, thereby successfully changed the way of employees' doing work and reaped an enormous amount of either visible or invisible performances as a result of implementing the six sigma innovation programme. This paper deals with both main activities undertaken at each stage of the innovation life cycle of six sigma and their performances in a ICT (Information Communication Technology) industry. The performances are described from the four aspects of a balanced score card (BSC) and finally some strategic implications suggested.

Vol.20 No.3

A hybrid quality costs model was applied in an upstream telecommunications supply chain and their quality cost checklists were developed to collect data from every department. Such collected data are both directly and indirectly related to the production of the particular product at a telecommunications manufacturing company. The bulk of analysis enabled to validate whether the quality costs model reflected the industry`s present situation. Both non production and production quality costs were then investigated to understand how they were distributed from the point of view of the overall organization, department and specific processes. A variety of quality cost factors were identified and classified according to the prevention, evaluation and failure. Some areas that need improving were also determined from this, and suggestions and discussion were given on how they could be improved.

This paper aims to apply the family life cycle(FLC) theory in order to promote an accurate understanding of residential customers and their experiences in the ICT service industry. Through in-depth review of the literature, the home market segments and their definitions were studied based on the FLC theory. Next, the appropriate family life cycle model was built to explore each home market segment for the ICT industry. The specific customer experiences and values were collected and analysed by applying three different qualitative research methods including Photo Diary, Home Visiting and In-depth Interview. As a result, nine core values that residential customers highly value are investigated in their daily lives, which enables to make some strategic implications that can be used for home marketing and customer service.

Vol.20 No.1

Employee satisfaction is one of the most essential tasks for ICT service industry because it significantly affects service quality, customer satisfaction, finally firm profitability. However, the effect of HR-focused total quality management(TQM) on employee satisfaction has not been examined in the ICT service supply chain organizations. The principle of TQM stresses continuous improvement which needs the involvement of every employee in the organization. This study aimed to investigate critical factors of TQM practices that would positively affect employee satisfaction. Data for this study were collected from ICT service company, which have implemented TQM program for more than ten years. Data were analyzed using the multiple regression methodology. The results suggest that five constructs of TQM practices have a positive effect on employee satisfaction. This study finally provides a basic guideline for managers in ICT customer service and retail distribution organizations, who desire to improve the level of employee satisfaction and service quality in their firms, through an effective TQM implementation.

Vol.39 No.3

Uganda is a country blessed with the biggest number of mountain Gorillas in the whole world. These animals contribute at least 12% in revenue generation to the Tourism sector through tracking by both local and foreign tourists who pay for the tracking permits. However, Gorilla tracking is also a big challenge even in the presence of highly skilled and well-trained game rangers. Development and implementation of a secure Computer and Mobile based Gorilla Tracking (GT) system that uses GIS and GPS technologies would be the most ideal technology to use. Therefore, this study aimed to find out the critical factors that would affect the Behavioral Intention of the would-be users to successfully decide to use such GIS/GPS-GT system. We used the existing UTAUT model to integrate six factors such as Performance Expectancy, Effort Expectancy, Employee Peer Influence, Facilitating Conditions, Behavioral Intention and System Use. However, Infrastructure Availability and Non-Technical Facilitating Conditions were added to reflect Ugandan ICT context. This amended UTAUT model was used to carry out the survey. The questionnaire was emailed to 220 government employees in the fields of ICT, Tour and Travel, Environmental Groups officials and Farmers who garden near the game reserves. A total of 133 were obtained fully completed, whereas 127 were deemed usable thus yielding a response rate of 58%. The analysis results show that except for non-technical facilitating conditions, effort expectancy, peer influence, performance expectancy and infrastructure availability positively affects behavioral Intention to use GIS/GPS-GT. This indicates that people in Uganda don’t bother about regulations and rules in regard to using information system. As long as the system does what they want it to, anything else does not matter. As an employee in an organization is told to use a system by their supervisor, they have no objection to otherwise they risk losing their job. This implies that, supervisors have a great responsibility in the process of developing, implementing and using the system in Uganda.
