Subscriber network investment cost is a main cost element among those constituting the access charges in telephone networks. The purpose of this paper to estimate the investment cost of installing a subscriber network in a typical metropolitan area and to develop a cost modeling framework. To this aim, a metropolitan area in Seoul was investigated. The main cost elements were identified and their relationships with the cable technology, geographical characteristics, and the number of subscribers were analyzed. The findings could be used to design an enhanced cost proxy models for estimating the access charges in a multi-operator environment.

Purpose: All masks are created by craftspeople. Accordingly, most masks are generally predictable in dimensions, and the portraitures usually depict the faces and heads of humans. The authors found some masks representing the features of facial asymmetry, such as hemifacial microsomia and rerely lateral facial cleft. Methods: Reviewing the legends of wearing masks with a medley of grotesque features, the authors could deduce the tone of society in those days. Results: A mask, 'crooked mouth', of Native Americans shows typical lineament of hemifacial microsomia. The deformity of the face was legendarily regarded as resulting from trauma caused by either 'one's fault' or a 'curse of God'. 'Grandmother' mask, used in the Korean masque dance of the Kosung province and Sooyoung province also shows the typical features of hemifacial microsomia which represent the old, deserted wife. 'Kori sanni yakka' mask in Sri Lanka, shows the facial asymmetry. In the legend, the child who became demon captured humans and caused illness through wind, phlegm, and bile to revenge on his father who killed his mother by deception of her maid. Conclusion: The authors presume that the victims of severe facial asymmetry were treated contemptuously at that time. (J Korean Cleft Palate Craniofac Assoc 11: 69, 2010)

This is the evaluation report of clinical competence of undergraduate medical students in Plastic Surgery field using OSCE(Objective Structured Clinical Examination) executed in three years. OSCE comprises of assessment of subject, choice of clinical stations sampling, identification of components of clinical competence to be evaluated, the level of performance required, development of specification table, editing of OSCE presentation page and assessment of practicability and results exploitation. About fifty students were examined annually. Seven station stimuli with simulated patient participation were carried out. The mean OSCE score was 82.3±6.19. The reliability of the total station was 0.72. The examination shows a positive response to the OSCE. Our experience shows OSCE's feasibility for Plastic Surgery during the initial course of education. Referring to our experiences, the Korean Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (KPRS) applied the OSCE test for Korean Plastic Surgery Board Certification.

Authors, editors and reviewers, publishers, and subscribers all play their role in scientific journals. These 5 stakeholders are essential to journals. In this paper, firstly, I briefly summarize the role of each journal stakeholder and their respective goals. Secondly, the status of each participant in the Archives of Plastic Surgery is described. Finally, I propose an appropriate role and plan for each of them. Specific roles and responsibilities include the following: subscribers should welcome and submit the critiques of published papers in letters to the editor. Publishers should trust editors and provide them with adequate financial support for ongoing quality improvement of the journal. The editor-in-chief should be given a sufficient period of time−several years−to build up journal quality and train the incoming editor. The editors, including section editors, are also responsible for increasing the author pool. One editor might be designated a ‘devil’s referee’, that is, a kind of devil’s advocate with the responsibility of examining the originality of the manuscript, taking a skeptical view of the manuscript, and looking for holes in the methods and results of reported experiments. Authors’ responsibilities include submitting manuscripts with scientific integrity and being ready to take responsibility for their articles even long after publication. Finally, reviewers’ responsibilities include identifying similar articles not cited. Reviewers are also welcome to write a discussion on the article they review.
