In this paper, the application of object-oriented modeling to develop a powertrain performance analysis program, called P-DYN, is introduced. Powertrain components, such as the engine, transmission, gear, inertia are modeled as objects which have data and method by using object-oriented modeling methodology. P-DYN, a performance analysis program, based on the object concept is made in C++. Two powertrain examples are analyzed through the P-DYN. It is expected that the analysis program or individual module constructed in this paper would be useful for automotive engineers in predicting the performance of powertrains and developing an analysis program.
