The effects of herbicides on the growth and pigment content of green algae were examined. Chlamydomonas reinhardtii was exposed to herbicides (glyphosate, phosphinothricin, simazine, alachlor and 2,4-D) concentration ranging from 1.0 x 10^(-6)M to 1.0 x 10^(-2) M contained in a high salt minimal medium. With increasing concentration of herbicides, a significant decrease in the cell number, and pigment content was observed. EC_(50), the concentration at which growth rates were reduced to a half, were 3.73 x 10^(-5) M, 3.18 x 10^(-5) M, 6.53 x 10^(-5) M, 4.75 x 10^(-7) M and 1.05 x 10^(-2) M for glyphosate, phosphinothricin, simazine, alachlor and 2,4-D, respectively.

To collect the basic ecological information about the microbial food webs in eutrophic water system with different residence time, the monthly variation of bacterioplankon (bacteria and small- sized cyanobacteria) and nanoplankton (phytoplankton and protists) were examined from December 2000 to September 2001. Kyungan stream is shorter in resident time (ca. 5.4 d) than Seokchon reservoir (ca. 72 d), even though they showed the same pattern in precipitation. With the basic environments, we examined the biomass (standing crops and its carbon content) of each plankton collected from the surface water. Large-sized planktons flourished in the time of low temperature, while small planktons were in the time of the high temperature period. Especially, in the Kyungan stream with much disturbance by rainfall and outflow, high diversity showed in term of species and cell morphology, compared to that of Seokchon lake. The time-lag relationship remarkably showed between phytoplankton and bacteria in Seokchon reservoir, and between protists and bacteria in Kyungan stream, respectively.

In The main purpose of the present work is the Development of Blade Shape for High Performance of Ventilation Fan Used in Shipyard by using CFD analysis. The design parameters affecting the efficiency of ventilation fan were analyzed for the design of blade shape with High Performance. The angle and area of the blade including the vane were selected as the main design parameters. Considering the design parameters, the airflow rate through the outlet was numerically estimated by CFD analysis. From the results of analyses, it was concluded that the outflow rate increased as the vane area was wider and the vane angle was more tilted to negative direction. And the wider blade area was, the more flow rate was produced through the outlet. Of the analyzed cases, the most improved blade shape showed increases up to 39% than the existing shape.

Incremental roll forming process combines the advantages both of incremental forming and the roll forming process. This process requires a smaller load capacity to form a thicker plate. This fact means that the incremental roll forming process has considerable potential for shipbuilding applications. The authors of this work have demonstrated experimentally the general applicability of the incremental roll forming process for the manufacture of ship hull plates. Recently, on the basis of the preliminary study, the large-sized forming machine for practical application of incremental roll forming process has been developed. Furthermore, the forming process planning system for the generation of forming information has been constructed and integrated with the forming machine. The primary achievements and features will be presented in this paper.

For the effective manufacture of doubly curved metal plates, a line array roll set (LARS) process is proposed. The suggested process utilizes a pair of upper and lower symmetric roll assemblies. In the process, the initial plate is progressed into the final shape in a stepwise or pathwise manner according to the basic principle of the incremental forming process. In this work, the intermediate shape which is closest to a final shape is proposed to fabricate the desired shape effectively in design of forming schedule. The intermediate shape has homogeneous curvature in a longitudinal and transverse direction so that it can be fabricated easily without complicated controls of rolls in the roll set. The method of approximation using genetic algorithm is proposed and applied to some actual ship hulls to evaluate the efficiency of the algorithm.
