The purpose of this experimental study was to determine the fracture strength of amalgam and composite resin on Class Ⅱ and "MOD" cavity. After the fixation of extracted upper and lower primary first and second molars, they were prepared Class Ⅱ and "MOD" cavity, filled with amalgam, self-curing and light curing composite resins, and measured the fracture strength with "Instron". The results were obtained as follow : 1. There is no significant difference between upper primary second molar and lower primary second molars in fracture strength, bur is significant difference between upper primary first and upper and lower second primary molars (p<0.01). 2. There is no significant difference between cavity designs, but is significant difference between filling materials (p<0.01). 3. In Class Ⅱ and "MOD" cavity, self-curing and light curing composite restorations contribute to fracture strength more than amalgam restorations. 4. Amalgam restorations contribute to fracture strength less than control group (p<0.05). 5. In upper first primary molars, Class Ⅱ light curing composite resin restorations only contribute to fracture strength more than control groups (p<0.01).

The purpose of this sutdy was investigating the bond strength between composite resin and enamel surface of the tooth. The enamels of sound primary molars and permanent premolars were used for experiment. They were extracted for orthodontic therapy or at physiologic exfoliation. They were classified into 10 groups at random ; 1 control group, 4 experimental groups were contained in self-curing resin and light-curing resin each. Laser impacts on each experimental groups were made at energy density of Q-switched Nd : YAG laser with 3.6J/m^2 and 10.8J/cm^2, Giant pulsed Nd : YAG laser 40J/cm^2 and Normal pulsed Nd : YAG laser with 40J/cm^2. Then the decalcified patterns of enamel by 36% phosphoric acid were investigated with scanning electron microscope add adhesive shear strength was measured on the each decalcified enamel surface after adhesion of light-curing and self-curing resin. All the decalcified enamel surfaces were classified into 3 groups and the hardness change after laser irradiation was examined. The obtained results were as follows. 1. There were not significant difference statistically between the light-curing resin groups in adhesive shear strength of primary molar(P>0.05), but significant increase in bonding force of self-curing resin groups as significant level α=0.05 in Q-switched Nd : YAG laser with 3.6J/cm^2, significant level α=0.01 in Normal pulsed Nd : YAG laser with 40J/cm^2. 2. There were not significant difference statistically between the light-curing resin groups in adhesive shear strength of permanent premolar, but significant increase in bonding force of self-curing resin groups as significant level α=0.05 in Q-switched Nd : YAG laser with 10.8J/cm^2 and Normal pulsed Nd : YAG laser with 40J/cm^2. 3. There were significant increase in bonding force of self-curing resin groups(α=0.01) in contrast to light curing resin groups when adhesive shear strength was examined with primary molar and permanent premolar. 4. In the hardness change after laser irradiation. primary molar was decreased significantly only in irradiation of Normal pulsed Nd : YAG laser as significant level α=0.01(P<0.01). In case of permanent premolar, significant decrease was seen statistically as significant level α=0.05 in Giant pulsed Nd : YAG laser irradiation and significant level α=0.01 in normal pulsed Nd : YAG laser irradiation(P<0.01).

The term "Oligodontia" or "Hypodontia", "Partial anodontia" have been used to describe variable degrees of reduction in number of teeth. Oligodontia may occur alone or as a result of some syndrome. 13, 15 years old female sister were refered to the department of pedodontics, college of dentistry Chonbuk National University for eveluation and replacement of absent teeth. They had no special infectious disease in their childhood. In family history, their mother also showed missing teeth. They had no special syndrome of ectodermal disorder except cone shape canine, notched upper central incisor. In panoramic view, multiful missing teeth were showed. For masticatory function, we restored missing area as space maintainer.

The author has measured maximum bite forces by use of the foil strain gauge for 445 children in Chon-ju city and observed mean value and statistical significance to the difference of bite forces according to the dentition, sex, and biting side. The obtained results were as follows : 1. In Primary dentition, mean maximum bite forces of left and right side were 17.55㎏ and 17.28㎏ in male and 15.94㎏ and 15.94㎏ in female. In mixed dentition, mean maximum bite forces of left and right side were 28.09㎏ and 27.00㎏ in male, and 21.67㎏ and 20.91㎏ in female. 2. The mean maximum bite force of mixed dentition group was shown much higher than that of primary dentition group. The difference of bite forece between primary and mixed dentition group was statistically significant. 3. The difference of the mean maximum bite forces of the left and right side was not statistically significant in male and female. 4. In comparison of mean maximum bite forces between male and female, much higher bite force was shown in male. Statistical significance was shown in left side of the primary dentition(P<0.05) and both sides of the mixed dentition(P<0.01).
