The LVC(Live, Virtual, Constructive) system of CTC(Combat Training Center) is at the very cutting edge of modeling and simulation technology, which has become widely accepted an enabler for a new military training transformation. In this paper, the architecture of LVC system is proposed for the Korean brigade-level CTC, and high level operational architecture, system architecture, and technical standard architecture are suggested.

본 논문에서는 국내에서 개발한 각 군의 주요 워게임 모델의 VV&A 수행 실태를 조사 분석한다. 이를 기초로 VV&A 활동의 참조 틀로써 VV&A 프레임워크를 제안한다. VV&A 프레임워크는 VV&A 기본모델과 참조모델 그리고 지원도구로 구성된다. VV&A 기본모델은 VV&A 프로세스, 산출 문서와 적용기법으로 구성된다. VV&A 참조모델은 VV&A 활동 유형별 확인사항 목록표, VV&A 수행 수준 분석모델과 VV&A 성숙도 관리 모델로 이루어진다. VV&A 지원도구는 VV&A 산출 문서 작성과 관리를 지원하는 도구이다. 제안하는 VV&A 프레임워크는 VV&A 계획 수립과 실행 시 참고할 수 있다. In this paper, we investigate and analyze the application of VV&A on the development of war-game models which were developed in Korea. Then we propose VV&A framework which comprises VV&A basic model, VV&A reference model and a supporting tool. The VV&A basic model consists of VV&A process, products and methodologies. The VV&A reference model includes VV&A check lists for each VV&A activities, an assessment model of VV&A execution level and VV&A process maturity model. The VV&A supporting tool is to document and manage VV&A products. The proposed VV&A framework can be used as the foundation of VV&A plan on its execution.

With the increased reliance on M & S(Modeling & Simulation) in military training, defense analysis, and system acquisition. The credibility of M & S becomes even more critical issue in the M & S application community. In this paper, we have introduced the VV & A(Verification, Validation and Accreditation) concept of M & S for the assurance of its credibility, and proposed the VV & A model applicable to a military simulator development with the illustrative example of MSAM(Medium range-Surface to Air Missile) system simulator.

This paper introduces BRL-CAD tool and its current applications for the vulnerability assessment of weapon system. Further we propose its future extensions necessary for the application on the Unmanned Combat Vehicle such as UAV, UGV, UMV. The extensions include 1) incorporating components criticality model, 2) easy reflection of the penetration equation for fragmentation, shaped charge projectile, kinetic energy projectile, 3) being interoperable with other CAD tools, 4) easy interface with the dynamic models of virtual prototyping for simulation based design.
M&S기반 무인지상전투차량 설계를 위한 통합모의실험환경 아키텍처모델

M&S (Modeling & Simulation) based design is widely accepted for the development of the future weapon system with better performance in a cheaper and faster way. Integrated simulation environment (ISE) is needed for the M&S based design. On the ISE, system engineers can not only verify design options but also validate system requirements. In this paper, we propose architectural models of the integrated simulation environment (ISE) which incorporates mission effectiveness M&S (Modeling & Simulation), system performance M&S, the optimization model of integrated performances, digital mockup and virtual prototype. The ISE architectural models may be used to implement the ISE for the development of the future unmanned ground combat vehicle.
HLA 기반 실시간 분산 M - SAM 시뮬레이션에서 RTI 성능 측정 및 분석

HLA는 시뮬레이션 표준 아키텍처로서 민수 및 국방 시뮬레이션 분야에서 관심이 높아가고 있다. 국내외에서 워게임과 같은 구조적 시뮬레이션에서는 HLA를 적용한 성공적인 개발사례를 찾아 볼 수 있다. 그러나 네트워크 시뮬레이터나 인터넷 게임과 같은 실시간 분산 시뮬레이션에서는 그 적용 사례가 아직까지 관찰되고 있지 않다. 그 이유는 실시간 분산 HLA 시뮬레이션에서는 네트워크 수준에서 RTI 를 통한 메시지 전송시간이 컴퓨팅 능력, 시뮬레이션 노드 개수, 전송방식, 전송패킷의 크기에 영향을 받고, 응용 수준에서 메시지의 사건처리시간이 메시지 처리방식에 의존하여 실시간 제약조건을 설정하기가 어렵기 때문이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 차후 M-SAM 시뮬레이터의 개발을 위하여 RTI의 실시간 제약 조건의 수준을 고찰하고자 한다. 이를 위하여 LAN 환경에서 6대의 PC상에 HLA 기반의 실험용 시뮬레이터를 개발하고 RTI의 성능을 측정하고 분석하였다. 본 연구의 결과로서 이전의 연구에서 제시되지 않았던 다수 노드 환경에서 실제 운용 시나리오와 부하에 따른 메시지 지연시간, RTI 부하 및 RTI 패킷전송 비율에 대한 정량적인 특성 값을 얻을 수 있었고, 이 결과는 향후 M-SAM 시뮬레이터 또는 유사 응용체계의 개발에서 표적 수, 전송주기 및 메시지 처리방식에 대한 설정지침으로 활용이 기대된다. The HLA is the simulation architecture standard that the civilian and military simulation communities are deeply interested in. We can find various successful practices applying HLA to constructive simulations such as war games in domestics and overseas. However, any case of real-time distributed simulations has not been reported. The reason is that a message transmission period via RTI in a network layer varies according to computing power, simulation nodes, transmission types, and packet size; further a message processing time in an application layer depends on its processing methods, thus too difficult to set up real-time constraints for the enhancement of a real-time resolution. Hence, in this paper we have studied the real-time constraints of RTI for the development of the M-SAM simulator. Thus we have developed a HLA based pilot simulator using 6 PC's in LAN and then measured and analysed the performance of the RTI. As the results of our work, we could obtain the quantitative values for message delay, RTI overhead and RTI packet transmission ratio by a real operation scenario and loads, which are not shown in the previous works. We also expect that the results can be used as a guideline to set up the number of targets, transmission frequency, and message processing method in the development of the M-SAM simulator and similar applications.
확장된 페트리네트를 이용한 차량형 군사로봇의 운용자 성능 및 통신장애 영향분석

Unmanned military vehicles (UMVs) are most commonly characterized as dealing with dull, dirty, and dangerous tasks with automation. Although most of the UMVs are designed to a high degree of autonomy, the human operator will still intervene in the robot’s operation, and teleoperate them to achieve his or her mission. Thus, operator capacity, together with robot autonomy and user interface, is one of the most important design factors in the research and development of the UMVs. Further, communication may affect the operator task performance. In this paper, we analyze the operator performance and the communication effects on the operator performance by using the extended Petri nets, called OTSim nets. The OTSim nets was designed by the authors, being extended using pure Petri nets.

This study is aimed to investigate the application of DITA(Defense Information Technical stAndard) on the weapon information systems and defense management information systems in order not only to update the current DITA version 4.0, but also to develop SoS(System of systems) interoperability policy in the armed forces of Korea. For this study, 18 information systems were considered, their development products(System/Sub-system Specification, Technical architecture View, System Interoperability Test and Evaluation products) were reviewed and analysed. As a result of the investigation and analysis, it was found that the 44% of the DITA standard profiles were used for the development of the defense information systems. We conclude that DITA should be updated to be a minimal set so that all the defense information systems should be DITA-compliant. And it should be reviewed periodically to reflect the new information technology.
