Rats housed in standard activity wheel cages and fed one hour daily died from the fourth day of the experimental period and revealed extensive ulcers in the gradular potions of the stomach. Whereas food-yoked control rats housed in standard cages did not die and were ulcer-free except with one rat. Experimental rats that died were more active than experimental rats that survived. Body weight loss of the experimental rats was more than that of the food-yoked control rats. These results suggested that running activity was critically involved in the development of the actvity-stress ulcer.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate and report the antibacterial efficacy in relation to oral disease-causing bacteria using a mouthwash containing 0.05% CPC in an in vitro test. Methods: The sterilization test and susceptibility assay of mouthwash containing 0.05% CPC were investigated against Streptococcus mutans, Streptococcus sobrinus, and Lactobacillus acidophilus; Streptococcus sanguinis as oral bacteria related to dental caries; Enterococcus faecalis as apical periodontitis-related bacteria; and Actinomyces israelii, Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans, Fusobacterium nucleatum, Prevotella intermedia, Prevotella nigrescence, Porphyromonas gingivalis, Tannerella forsythia, Treponema denticola, and Filifactor alocis as periodontal disease-related bacteria. Results: In the sterilization test, most of the bacteria had more than 99.99% sterilizing power for all samples but compared to other bacteria, the sterilizing power of these samples was not successful for L. acidophilus and E. faecalis bacteria. When comparing the sterilization power between the samples, sample 3 (0.05% CPC+20% ethanol) was the strongest. Conclusions: In the antimicrobial activity test, sample 3 inhibited growth at the lowest concentration overall.
초등영어 학습자의 정보처리 단위의 크기와 영어능력의 상관관계 분석

This study was intended to investigate the correlation between the information unit size in the language process, the speaking speed, the STM capacity and the English communicative proficiency of elementary school students In this study, 62 elementary 6™ graders were tested as subjects This study consists of three stages Stage one was to test the STM capacity of the subjects Stage two measured the information unit size in the language process and the speaking speed Stage three tested the students' English communication proficiency which consisted of speaking and listening skill After these three stages, the correlations of the parameters were examined using SPSS 12? window package The results of this study were as follows First, if the size of the unit of information process was increased by chunking, the speaking speed and the STM capacity for English were increased Second, the communicative proficiency was increased as the information unit size increased The implication from this study for the elementary English teaching process could be briefly noted as follows, (1) The main focus of elementary English teaching should be always on the sentence or thought group level, and the word level teaching is advised to be designed as supplementary to the main focus, (2) As a way of increasing the information unit size, chants, song, games or dramas would be a good choice to give a situation for chunking information in a meaningful context

Metastasis to the skull frequently occurs in patients with lung, breast and prostate cancer. However, skull metastases from thyroid carcinoma have been rarely reported. Thyroid carcinoma usually have a long clinical course before the diagnosis of skull metastasis, however we experienced an unusual early skull metastasis from thyroid carcinoma. We review the literature on skull metastasis from thyroid follicular carcinoma and report a case of a 55-year-old female who presented with lytic skull metastasis of thyroid follicular carcinoma. She had a history of thyroid surgery for a thyroid nodule 1 year ago. She complained of painless scalp mass over the left parietal region. Radiological investigations revealed a lytic skull mass in the left parietal region. The histological diagnosis was skull metastasis from thyroid follicular carcinoma. The patient was given whole body I131 radio-iodine internal radiation and thyroid stimulating hormone(TSH) suppression therapy.

The developmental theory of Jean Piaget describes intellectral growth, from sensory-motor intelligence to adult logic. Although Piaget did not dealt with the mentally retarded children, his theory has been applied to those children by many researchers. Inhelder(1968) proposed a method to order adult retardates according to Piaget"s developmental stage. In this classificatory system, idiot is viewed as fixed at the level of sensorimotor intelligence; imbecile is seen as incapable of surpassing the pre-operational stage; moron is seen as unable to progress beyond concrete operational stage; and the borderline adult is seen as able to use only the simple kinds of formal operational tasks. Hood"s study(1962) on the montally retarded supported Piaget"s notion of stage in the development of number concepts. Lister(1972) studied the development of educationally subnormal children"s understanding of conservation, and then this study results supported that conservation skill can be taught to retarded subjects. McManis(1969) reported that retarded subjects showed a marked delay in transibity development. This finding is inconsistent with Piaget"s hypothesis that conservation and transibity occur together. Stephens(1966) concluded in his study that conservation of weight was more difficult than conservation of water, and the latter was more difficult than conservation of number for both the mentally retarded and normal subjects. And also. conservation of inequality was less difficult than conservation of equality for all kinds of concepts. As shown above, these results of investigations into the application of Piaget"s stage-theory of development indicate that the stage of development in the mentally retarded. paralled those described by Piaget, but appear at latter chronological periods. The fact that people can change and the notion of educability of intelligence have dominated the thinking of those advocating cognitive-based training problems for the mentally retarded. And because of the treamendous variability in cognitive of the mentally retarded task performance with in IQ categories, identification of specific aspects of concept learning holds promise for enhancing the school performance of the mentally retarded children through individualized instruction.
