This research suggests directions and guidelines of a web-based English learning program (WELP) in terms of content development, instructional design, and functions. Based on various English teaching methods and instructional design theories, the theoretical foundation of the WELP for effective web-based English learning was established. The case study on national and international web-based learning materials and models also provided some insight into the technical and educational trends in current web-based learning. The case study showed the possible applications of these trends to WELP. WELP will be expected to take a role as a complement to the materials used in the regular classes as well as learning materials for after-school classes and self study. To accomplish these diverse roles, WELP should offer extensive functions so that it can be utilized in both teacher-centered and student-centered learning situations. This research listed the characteristics of students and teachers in web-based learning, which were different from traditional classrooms. The research outcomes suggested these functions in terms of student motivation, interaction, interface, and differentiated learning. The research also outlined a technical and web environment in which the functions can properly work.

Selecting suitable English-teaching multimedia software to use at home in the classroom is perhaps the most pressing problem facing both teachers and students who want to use computers or English learning and teaching. While there is apparently no shortage of programs around that are designed to teach English, there is acute lack of programs that are made in a theoretically practically sound manner. This paper, therefore, aims at providing qualitative information on criteria and prints to consider which are essential to selecting suitable ESL softwares to use from two perspectives: related theory and practical considerations. With respect to related theory. I will consider some thoretical aspects needed in developing and evaluating the effectiveness of a program; applied linguistics, input language, language teaching methodology, and second language acquisition theory. With practical points to consider, first, I will deal with these form instructors' perspective; the flexibility of the program, how it helps the instructor, and how much control it allows to instructors over the contents of the lesson. Secondly, I will cover practical considerations from users' perspective; the ease of use and navigation, software's evaluation of learners' response and the interactivity of the software with the user. Finally, other practical points will be considered operating platforms the software is available for, advantages of network format, and media integration and aesthetics.

Background : Currently, most clinical trials are conducted on adults. Also, dose formulations are developed based on adult standard doses, resulting in problems with pediatric administration. Firstly, the excess drugs become medical waste. Secondly, patients may be overcharged even when they only use a small portion of the drugs. Lastly, medical errors may arise while preparing and administering pediatric doses with comparatively large dose formulations. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the status of injectable drug use in pediatric inpatients and estimate the discarded drug amounts and the proportion of the actual dose used, thus evaluating the marketability of lower dose formulations. Methods : The data of injectable drugs prescribed from June 1, 2018, to May 31, 2019, were collected and retrospectively analyzed using the Order Communication System program. Results : The average daily injectable drug prescriptions for children were 1,738.1, and 40.1% of them were for less than the dose formulations. The number of injections discarded daily was 435.7, accounting for 1,692,217 Korean won. The injectable drugs frequently prescribed in small proportions were dexamethasone 5 mg/ampoule (A), ranitidine 50 mg/A, cimetidine 200 mg/A, and furosemide 20 mg/A. Among the top 20 products, only seven had lower dose formulations available in Korea, of which three were unavailable due to low demand, never produced though granted permission, and one was due to non reimbursement by insurance. Moneywise, the biggest loss was from caspofungin 50 mg/vial (V), whose daily drug disposal accounted for 256,352 Korean won, followed by smoflipid 20%® 100 ml/bottle, ganciclovir 500 mg/V, and teicoplanin 200 mg/V. Conclusion : This study showed that utilizing injectable drugs with adult dose formulations for children could result in biohazardous medical waste and economic losses. However, there are only a few alternatives currently available. Therefore, the government, instead of individual medical institutions or pharmaceutical companies, should authorize the investigation and development of lower dose formulations for children.
