The present study was conducted to develop the automatic analytical method for determining moisture, nicotine, reducing sugar and total nitrogen contents and color(L, a, b) value in domestic tobacco leaves using near infrared(NIR) spectroscopy. The results of multiple linear regression analysis between chemical and NIR data showed that NIR spectro- scopy can determine those quality components of tobacco samples in 30 seconds, non-destructively. The results using developed calibrations are summarized as follows; The standard error of prediction(SEP) for moisture, nicotine. total nitrogen, reducing sugar contents and color(L, a, b) value in domestic tobacco leaves was 0.28%, 0.25%, 0.07%, 0.75%, 1.25, 0.44 and 1.07, respectively. In addition, The possibility of developing the cheaper filter type NIR instrument, for quality evaluation in the procurement from leaf tobacco cultivators and process control was investigated.

A possibility of evaluation of the major internal quality factors-Brix, moisture contents, firmness and acid content in the Korean domestic `Fuji` apple fruits by near-infrared reflectance spectroscopic (NIRS) methods were investigated. A multiple linear regression(MLR) analysis between the data obtained by physico- chemical analysis method using refractometer, freeze drier, texture analyzer and titrater and NIR spectral data was carried out to make a calibration. The standard error of prediction(SEP) of Brix, moisture, firmness and acid content were 0.50°Brix, 0.64%, 0.14 ㎏/㎠ and 0.07%. It is concluded that NIRS methods can be used to evaluate Brix and moisture contents of in a apple non-destructive and rapid way but the accuracy for determination of firmness and acid content was slightly low.
Possible Use of NIR Spectroscopy for Soil Testing

실험실에서의 기존의 토양분석방법은 많은 시약을 사용하고 분석시간이 많이 걸린다. 본 연구는 근적외 분광분석기를 이용하여 토양의 여러 가지 이화학성분에 대한 측정결과를 검토하였다. 토양시료를 몰탈로 갈아서 토양입자를 0.2mm의 체를 통과시킨 140점의 토양시료를 85점은 근적외 분광분석기(InfraAlyzer 500, Bran & Luebbe Co.)로 표준곡선을 작성하고 나머지 55점의 토양시료는 표준곡선을 이용하여 토양의 이화학성중에서 토양 pH, CEC, 치환성 Ca, Mg, K 및 유효규산, 휴믹산 및 전기전도도(EC)를 추정하였다. 표준곡선은 부분최소자승법을 이용하여 작성하였다. 토양시료를 곱게 분쇄하면 근적외선의 고른 확산반사를 얻을 수 있어서, 근적외 분광분석기를 이용하여 여러 기지 토양의 화학성을 수초내에 추정할 수 있어 토양검정에 이용할 수 있을 것으로 생각된다. Traditional methods of chemical analysis for the soil properties take time and produce harmful waste. The purpose of this research was to evaluate an NIR technique for measuring some soil properties that are rapid and accurate in soil fertility assessments. The NIR instrument (InfraAlyzer 500, Bran & Luebbe Co.) was used for obtaining spectral data from 140 finely ground soil for calibrations and validation estimating pH, CEC, extractable Ca, Mg, K, $SiO_2$, humic acid and EC. Partial least square regression analysis was used to develop a calibration of NIR spectroscopy method. The results indicated that NIR spectroscopy could be used as a routine nondestructive method quantitatively determining soil chemical properties quickly. However the NIR technique may require sample preparation to obtain even diffuse reflection spectra from the soil and data manipulations to obtain optimal predictions.

근적외 분광분석법으로 사과의 유리산 함량을 비파괴적으로 측정함에 있어서 사과 착즙액의 갈변에 의한 영향은 있었으나 실활처리 및 적정 알칼리액 농도는 측정 정확도에 영향을 주지 않았다. 수확기 사과의 유리산 함량은 수확 시기를 달리한 시료로 작성한 검량식을 사용하여 측정하였는데 중회귀분석 결과, 중상관계수(R)는 0.77이었고 측정오차(SEP)는 0.03%이었다. 저장 중인 사과의 유리산 함량은 저장하여 유리산 함량폭이 넓은 시료로 작성한 검량식을 사용하여 측정하였으며 그 결과 R은 0.90, SEP는 약 0.04%이었다. 근적외 분광분석법을 응용하여 사과 중의 유리산 함량을 정확히 정량하기는 다소 미흡하나 높은 산 함량치와 낮은 산 함량치를 가지는 사과로 분류하는 것은 가능한 것으로 판단되었다. In non-destructive evaluation of free acid content in apples by near- infrared spectroscopy(NIRS), browning and heat treatment of squeezed apple juice affected to the accuracy but titrable alkali concentration did not. The free acid content in apples after harvest was able to determine using different apples in harvest time for calibration making. The result of MLR, multiple correlation coefficient(R) was 0.77 and standard error of prediction(SEP) was 0.03%. The free acid content in apples during storage was able to determine using calibration equation established with stored apples, R was 0.90 and SEP was ca. 0.04%. The prediction accuracy by LAIR was not sufficient for use of quantitative analysis of free acid content in apple, but classification of law and high level in acid content was supposed to be applicable.

Geographical origin oaf the Korean, Chinese and Japanese sesame seeds were identified very high accuracy by NIR spectroscopy. The NIR instrument of filter type showed the same accuracy of the monochromator scanning type to identify the geographical origin of the sesame seeds. In case of adulteration between the Korean and Chinese sesame seeds, the ratio of addition could be determined about 10% error level. The reason of identification of geographical origin by NIR spectroscopy, it was supposed to the difference, of oil cake substance.

Current discriminating technique of rice variety is known to be not objective till this time because of depending on naked eye of well trained inspector. DNA finger print method based on genetic character of rice has been indicated inappropriate for on-site application, because the method need much labor and skilled expert. The purpose of this study was to develops the identification technique of polished rice varieties using CCD camera images. To minimize the noise of the captured image, thresholding and median filtering were carried out, and edge was extracted from the image data. Image data after pretreatment of normalize and FFT(fast fourier transform) were used for library model and feedforward backpropagation neural network model. Image processing technique using CCD camera could discriminate the variety of rice with high accuracy in case of quite different rice of shape, but the accuracy was reached at 85% in the similar shape of rice.
