A total of 835 quarter milk samples of 212 dairy cows from 14 herds were examined for mastitis and the results obtained were as follows; 1. Three hundred and fifty-eight quarters(42.9%) from 149 cows(70.3%) were found to be infected with mastitis. It was found that 11(1.3%) of the infected quarters were clinical mastitis and all of the rest were subclinical mastitis. 2. Streptococcus agalactiae(62 quarters) and Staphylococcus aureus(42 quarters) were the main two causative organisms of the mastitis. Streptococcus dysgalactiae, Streptococcus uberis, other streptococci, Corynebacteria, and Yeast were also found to cause the infection. 3. The majority of Staphylococcus aureus strains were sensitive to penicillin, orbenin, terramycin, and leucomycin, however, the most of Streptococcus strains were sensitive to penicillin and orbenin only. 4. Penicillin and orbenin were highly effective in the treatment of mastitis, especially orbenin for Staph ylococcus aureus infection and penicillin for Streptococcal infection. 5. A mastitis control program for dairy farms in Korea was discussed and recommended.

Quick freezing of bovine embryos was attempted after they were predehydrated at room temperature. Combined solutions of 2M glycerol or 2M ethylene glycol in the presence of either 0.5 or 1.0M sucrose in phosphated buffered saline+20% calf serum were compared. The quick freezing method in which embryos were directly transferred in liquid nitrogen vapor for 2 minutes at - l70$^{\circ}C$ before being plunged into liquid nitrogen was used. Post-thaw survival rates in 2M glycerol and 2M ethylene glycol were high with 0.5 M (55.6% and 53.3%) versus 1.0M(38.1% and 31.6%) sucrose(P < 0.05). But survival rates with 2M glycerol and 2M ethylene glycol were not significantly different. Transfer thawed embryos frozen with 2M glycerol and 2M ethylene glycol by 0.5M sucrose resulted in birthrates of 40.9% and 40.0%, respectively compared to 26.3% and 27.2%, respectively, for 1.0 M sucrose(p<0.05). This was 56.0% for fresh control.

In order to determine the amounts of impurities and to identify the chemical structures of the impurities in the technical product of the plant growth regulator Atonic, the extracts of diethyl ether and dichloromethane were analyzed with GC-FID and GC-MSD. resulting in detection of five impurities and identification of their chemical structures. The amount of the active ingredient atonic in the technical product was about 84% and those of the impurities ranged from 0.24 to 10.74%. The identified impurities in this technical product are 2-methoxyphenol (guaiacol, m/z 124), 2-chloro-6-methoxyphenol and/or 4-chloro-6-methoxyphenol (m/z 158), 1,2-dimethoxy-4-nitrobenzene (m/z 183), and 2,6-bis(1,1-dimethylethy1)-4-methylphenol (m/z 220), suggesting that they are not hazardous impurities.

Burkholderia pyrrocinia CAB08106-4 has an anti-bacterial effect on Garlic White Rot caused by Sclereotium cepivorum and Sclereotium sp.. It is an environmentally friendly microbial product that prevents and controls a variety of phytopathogens involving Garlic White Rot caused by Sclereotium cepivorum and Sclereotium sp.. The aim of this study was to assess and to compare the pathogenicity of Burkholderia pyrrocinia CAB08106-4 by single exposure of rats through several routes such as oral, intranasal and intravenous. For the acute toxicity / pathogenicity study, the animals were sacrificed on days 3, 7, 14 and 21, and macroscopically observed their organs to examine the numbers of internally-retained pesticidal microbes. Clinical examinations were performed daily during administration period, and body weight gain was evaluated. In the study, no clinical sign, weight gain and mortality were observed in relation to the administration of test article. The significant changes of internal/external microbes by test article were not detected. The pathological findings in relation to the administration of the test article in the necropsy were not observed. It could be concluded that the microorganism was not toxic or pathogenic in rats via oral, intranasal and intravenous route.

Burkholderia pyrrocinia CAB08106-4 has antibacterial efficacy against garlic black rot mycosis caused by Sclereotium cepivorum and Sclereotium sp. It is an environmentally friendly microbial product for the management and prevention of various plant pathogens including scarreotium cepivorum and Sclereotium sp. The purpose of this study is to evaluate Burkholderia pyrrocinia CAB08106-4 against local irritation and skin sensitization that develops in the skin and mucosa. In skin and eye irritation test, test substance was administered to the skin and eye of NewZealand White rabbits. Skin irritation test was performed for 72 hours and eye irritation test was performed for 7 days. Body weights were measured on days of before test substance administration, and on days 3 after administration in skin irritation test and measured on days of before test substance administration, and on days 3, 7 after administration in eye irritation test. As a result, general clinical signs, skin irritation, and eye irritation were not observed during the entire test period, and the body weight was increased normally. In the skin sensitization test, test substance was administered to the skin of Hartley guinea pigs, and skin was observed at 24 hours and 48 hours after the induction of the test substance. As a result, there were no general clinical signs due to administration of the test substance, normal weight gain was observed, no skin reaction such as erythema and edema was observed, and the sensitization index and the frequency index were calculated as 0 and 0%, respectively. From the above results, it was evaluated that the test substance did not cause skin irritation and eye irritation and did not cause any skin sensitization, so that it was not problematic.

Bukholderia pyrrocinia CAB08106-4 has an anti-fungal effect on Garlic White Rot caused by Sclereotium cepivorum and Sclereotium sp. It is environmentally friendly microbial product that prevents and controls a variety of phytopathogens including Garlic White Rot caused by Sclereotium cepivorum and Sclereotium sp. The aim of this study was to assess the environmental toxicity using Cyprinus carpio and Daphnia magna. Bukholderia pyrrocinia CAB08106-4 (1.0 × 10<SUP>9</SUP>cfu/mL) was adminatrated to Cyprinus carpio and Daphnia magna according to the toxicity test guideline for peciticide. LC<SUB>50 </SUB>of Bukholderia pyrrocinia CAB08106-4 is over 6.67 × 10⁴ cfu/mL in Cyprinus carpio and Daphnia magna and no adverse effect was observed. Based on these results, we concluded that Bukholderia pyrrocinia CAB08106-4 has no toxiciy for Cyprinus carpio and Daphnia magna.
