The synthesis of (2-oxo-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl) methacrylate (DOMA) from carbon dioxide and glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) was investigated using quaternary ammonium chloride catalysts immobilized on the following three different supports:(1) soluble poly(styrene-vinylbenzyl chloride) support (2) insoluble ST-DVB-VBC support (3) insoluble ST-DVB-VBC(isooctylalcohol 30%) support. The addition reaction of carbon dioxide to GMA can be considered as pseudo first-order with the concentration of GMA. All the supported catalysts showed quite high reaction rate constants, and the activation energy of the reaction for the catalysts supported on (1), (2), and (3) support was 29.18, 20.19, and 18.45 kJ/mol, respectively. The immobilized catalysts can be reused several times without any considerable loss of their initial reactivities.
