Purpose: The present study aimed to develop guidelines regarding initial choice of antibiotics for diabetic foot ulcers (DFU) by investigating bacterial isolates. Materials and Methods: This study included 223 DFU patients that visited a single tertiary hospital and underwent bacterial culture between January 2016 and February 2020. The study was conducted in two parts: 1) to compare bacterial isolates and wound healing according to comorbidities such as chronic kidney disease (CKD) and peripheral artery disease (PAD), and 2) to compare bacterial isolates according to wound depth using the Wagner classification. Results: Of the 223 patients, 43 had CKD (group A), 56 had PAD (group B), 30 had CKD and PAD (group C), and 94 had none of these comorbidities (group D). The isolation rate for multidrug-resistant gram-negative bacteria (MRGNB) and gram-negative to gram-positive bacteria ratio were highest in group C (p=0.018, p=0.038), and the proportion that achieved wound healing was lowest in group C (p<0.001). In the second part of the study, subjects were classified into 5 grades by wound depth using the Wagner classification; 13 grade I, 62 grade II, 60 grade III, 70 grade IV, and 17 grade V. No significant difference was observed between these grades in terms of isolation rates or gram-negative to gram-positive bacteria ratios. Conclusion: This study suggests antibiotics that cover gram-negative bacteria including MRGNB produces better results in the presence of CKD and PAD and that initial antibiotic choice should be based on the presence of CKD and PAD rather than wound depth.

A control algorithm is applied to commercial myoelectric hand prostheses for converting various hand gestures. However, since the conversion efficiency of these algorithms has never been quantitatively analyzed, it is necessary to do so. Therefore, herein, we quantitatively analyze conversion algorithms applied to the commercial myoelectric hand prosthesis and the recently proposed intuitive conversion algorithm to verify its usability. First, the structure of each mode conversion algorithm is described, as well as its association with the final hand gesture state for efficient conversion. Subsequently, the usability of the proposed algorithm is verified by comparing the number of conversions to the number of hand gestures used by each algorithm. According to the comparison results, the algorithm is easily used by upper limb amputees because the number of conversions is relatively reduced. From the experimental results, we demonstrated the usability of the proposed algorithm and its relevance to upper limb amputees.

We propose the vehicular visible light communication system using LED headlamp for ITS. In this paper, the communication between photo-detector and the LED headlamp is approached using LED headlamp as the transmitter, and photo-detector as the receiver. The LEDs in the transmitter are emitted using I-4PPM(inverse 4-pulse position modulation) method and those emitting LEDs are captured by a photo diode for conducting synchronous communication method. Also, this system is accessible on daytime. Experimental results using appropriate images and figures showed the effectiveness for the proposal.

We propose an efficient vehicle-to-vehicle communication algorithm that uses LED rear lamp as a transmitter and the high-speed camera as a receiver. Visible light communication is a wireless communication method using luminance, transmitting vehicle information data by emitting light. In this paper, LED transmitter is modulated by using 8-pulse position modulation scheme and the high-speed camera is used as a receiver for demodulating the signals by using image processing techniques. We performed examination of the transmission speed according to the our communication system. The actual proof experiment of the proposed system was conducted under the laboratory conditions.
