Purpose: To determine if routine otorhinolaryngologic referral prior to endonasal dacryocystorhinostomy (EN-DCR) is necessary. Methods: Two hundred thirty-seven eyes of 178 patients who were supposed to undergo EN-DCR were prospectively analyzed. Nasal endoscopy was performed by an ophthalmologist and the patients who had severe abnormality were referred to an otorhinolaryngologist. The patients were classified into 3 groups after a preoperative examination by an ophthalmologist and an otorhinolaryngologist; the number and success rate of each group were then investigated. Group A consisted of patients who had no nasal cavity abnormality, Group B consisted of patients with a nasal cavity abnormality but who received no treatment, and Group C consisted of patients who had a nasal cavity abnormality and received otorhinolaryngologic treatment. Results: The number of subjects in each group was 156 in Group A (87.7%), 12 in Group B (6.7%), and 10 in Group C (5.6%). The number of patients who were referred to the otorhinolaryngologist was 22 (12.3%). There was no statistical significance of success rate between the groups. Conclusions: Routine nasal endoscopic examination should be performed by an ophthalmologist prior to EN-DCR. Only patients with severe abnormal findings should be referred to an otorhinolaryngologist as the results from the present study show the percentage of patients having significant nasal abnormalities was found to be low (12%) and the success rate of EN-DCR revealed no statistical significance between the groups. Chalcogenide and oxide heterostructures have been studied as a next-generation electronic materials, due to their interesting electronic properties, such as direct bandgap semiconductor, ferroelectricity, ferromagnetism, superconductivity, charge-density waves, and metal-insulator transition, and their modification near heterointerfaces, so called, electronic reconstruction. An angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) is a powerful technique to unveil such novel electronic phases in detail, especially combined with high quality thin film preparation methods, such as, molecular beam epitaxy and pulsed laser deposition. In this article, the recent ARPES results in chalcogenide and oxide thin films will be introduced.

To provide the appropriate direction for development of transient control algorism in SI engine, performance analysis and evaluation under rapid accelerating and decelerating driving conditions are carried out by experimental study. In order to evaluate the characteristics of transient performance quantitatively, the concept of transient response method has to be needed. Several parameters such as engine speed, mass air flow, MAP, fuel inject duration are measured simultaneously during the rapid opening and closing of the throttle valve by the step motor controlled by PC. During the rapid opening, MAP or mass air flow is increased without delay, but engine revolution is delayed as long as the valve opening rate is changed. Dead time and response delay time of engine revolution are to be changed by valve opening rate.<br/>
열전달 특성에 따른 전기용해로 내부 온도예측에 관한 수치적 연구

The main objective of this study is to analyze the heat transfer characteristics in the electric furnace. Local temperatures are measured at various locations in the furnace using the B-type thermocouples. In this paper, mathematical heat transfer model has been developed predict temperature distribution by considering the thermal radiation and transient conduction effect on heating element, crucible and furnace walls. The numerical simulation was performed using the ANSYS-Workbench software, and its results were compared with experimental data. The computational results show that the temperature distributions agreed well with experimental results. Finally, a difference in temperature behavior of the crucible was investigated as some heat transfer parameters change.

Oxy-fuel combustion is a reliable way for the reduction of pollutants, the higher combustion efficiency and the separation of carbon dioxide. In this study, An experimental study was performed to investigate the influence of soot emission in laboratory-scale oxy-fuel burner. The experimental conditions are fixed up fuel(CH₄) and oxidizer(O₂) rate. But inert gas(CO₂) rate was changed. Also the study was performed in the laminar diffusion flame. As an optical method, laser induced incandescence is useful to get the information for spatial and temporal soot emission. Therefore, Soot emission measurements were performed to the technique of laser induced incandescence(LII) and 2D image was detected by ICCD camera. As a result of this experimental study, confirmed to Characteristic of soot emission in Oxy-fuel combustion.
