Air pollution has been faced with serious problem related to vehicle emissions. Bio-diesel is getting interest because of its low environmental impact when it used as alternative fuel for diesel engine. The purpose of this work was to investigate effect of vehicle emissions, fuel Economy and power on bio-diesel and ULSD(Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel). Blending ratio of bio-diesel were 20% (BD20) and the feedstocks were 5 types such as soybean, rapeseed, cottonseed, palm, wasted cooking oil. The emissions of bio-diesel generally were decreased compared to ULSD except NOx. This result shows that the decrease of Kinetic Viscosity, calorific value and density of the bio-diesel effect on vehicle emission and Fuel economy etc. When the fuels have the property of 2.9~3.0 cmt(Kinetic Viscosity), NOx was reduced and PM was increased. When the calorific value was decreased, the fuel economy was decreased. The decrease of fuel density makes PM and power lower.

The fuel economy estimates essentially serve two purposes: to provide consumers with a basis on which to compare the fuel economy of different vehicles, and to provide consumers with a reasonable estimate of the range of fuel economy they can expect to achieve. The current fuel economy label values utilize measured fuel economy over city (CVS-75 mode) driving cycles. However, this test driving mode can not be evaluated the variety factor of the real-world. These factors include differences between the way vehicles are driven on the road and over the test cycles, air conditioning use, widely varying ambient temperature and humidity, widely varying trip lengths, wind, precipitation, rough road conditions, hills, etc. The purpose of the new test method for fuel economy is to better account for three of these factors : 1) on-road driving patterns (i.e. higher speeds and more aggressive driving (higher acceleration rates)), 2) air conditioning, and 3) colder temperatures. The new test methods will bring into the fuel economy estimates the test results from the five emissions tests in place today : CVS-75, HWFET, US06, SC03 and Cold CVS-75. Based on these new test methods, this paper discusses the characteristics of test method on Hybrid electric vehicle (HEV). And this paper assesses the fuel economy label of HEV.
연료물성을 고려한 자동차 연비 측정 방법의 개선에 관한 연구

A chassis dynamometer test cell is employed along with a CVS (Constant Volume Sampler) system to test for both vehicle exhaust emissions and for fuel economy. The current fuel economy test method for gasoline and diesel fueled vehicles is called the Carbon-Balance method, and it works by testing the vehicle exhaust emissions for all carbon-containing components. Through conservation of mass, the carbon that comes out as exhaust must have gone in as fuel. However, there are significant differences between the real vehicle fuel rate(fuel flow metering method) and the CVS measured fuel consumption(carbon-balance method) during vehicle fuel economy tests. This is a concern because a different property characteristics of vehicle fuel are used during a test. It is important to be able to relate mass emissions to mass fuel consumption in order to understand and control vehicle engine performance. In addition to the standard test equipment for vehicles, a highly accurate fuel flow meter is installed that measures the mass of fuel consumed by the engine during chassis dynamometer tests. A diesel vehicle was tested over CVS-75 mode (standard Fuel Economy protocols), where it is found that the fuel flow meter mass measurements correlate with the carbon-balance fuel consumption results measured with the CVS. Experiments are performed using two different test method where equivalent results are obtained. The carbon-balance fuel economy performance of the CVS is compared to that obtained with a fuel flow metering method. This paper will explain the principles behind the new testing methods as well as the equipment required to accurately test vehicle fuel consumption. The techniques have been optimized for the chassis dynamometer, and the current bio-diesel fuel configuration is given as an example.

As the interest on the air pollution is gradually rising up at home and abroad, automotive and fuel researchers have been working on the exhaust emission reduction from vehicles through a lot of approaches, which consist of new engine design, innovative after-treatment systems, using clean fuels and fuel quality improvement. However, a study that the fuel quality affect on exhaust emission from vehicle. This research shows that the irregular gasoline fuel had some problem that cause of ambient pollution, power decreasing, fallen to safety and trouble of engine. At the cold-start operating condition, the irregular gasoline fuel is happened to the unregulated exhaust emissions. Also, based on these problem, this paper discusses the influence of gasoline fuel quality on automotive exhaust emissions.
