A structural analysis was carried out for a 60 N.m class flexible disk coupling. Flexible disk couplings are used to transmit power between two shafts. When a flexible coupling is used, some amount of misalignments such as angle of deviation and end play can be allowed in assembling the shafts. However, the maximum allowable misalignment should be decided to guarantee the fatigue life. In this study, the effect of the angle of deviation and end play on the maximum stress was investigated. From the analysis results, it was shown that the angle of deviation has a greater effect on the maximum stress than the end play. Furthermore, the dimensions of the disk plate were optimized to realize a better design. From the optimization, the maximum stress could be reduced by up to 5.2%.

Capsule endoscopy is one of the most remarkable inventions in last ten years. Causing less pain for patients, diagnosis for entire digestive system has been considered as a most convenience method over a normal endoscope. However, it is known that the diagnosis process typically requires very long inspection time for clinical experts because of considerably many duplicate images of same areas in human digestive system due to uncontrollable movement of a capsule endoscope. In this paper, we propose a method for clinical diagnosticians to get highly valuable information from capsule-endoscopy video. Our software system consists of three global maps, such as movement map, characteristic map, and brightness map, in temporal domain for entire sequence of the input video. The movement map can be used for effectively removing duplicated adjacent images. The characteristic and brightness maps provide frame content analyses that can be quickly used for segmenting regions or locating some features(such as blood) in the stream. Our experiments show the results of four patients having different health conditions. The result maps clearly capture the movements and characteristics from the image frames. Our method may help the diagnosticians quickly search the locations of lesion, bleeding, or some other interesting areas.

A hinge bracket is usually produced by bending of sheet panel or welding of hollow bar into sheet panel. The hinge bracket that is made by bending or welding, however, does not have sufficient due to the stress concentration on the bended region or low corrosion resistance of the welded region. In order to make hinge bracket with high durability, a bracket that is made by forming is needed. In this study, a thickening process from a sheet panel for hinge bracket is investigated. Several bracket forming processes are proposed and the possibility of bracket forming is investigated via finite element analysis.

More than 90% of the transportation between countries is carried out by marine transportation. A large quantity of products can be transported by marine transportation. In most of the transportation between countries, containers are used. However, too many empty containers must be transported between countries due to the transportation imbalance. For transportation efficiency, therefore, foldable containers are being developed. Hinge brackets are important parts of foldable containers because great force is applied on the hinges during loading onto and unloading from ships. Therefore, the hinge bracket for a foldable container is designed to be made using thick plate or bulk materials. The forming process for the hinge bracket using thick plate is designed via numerical analysis. For the forming of the hinge bracket, the shape of bracket is redesigned without reducing the load carrying capacity.
