The object of this research is to examine the effect of 'school difference' on school attainment and the degree of the effects if the relationship between two factors is proved to be positive. The research was undertaken by following process: 1) investigating the effect of school difference on the entire target population: 2) examining how the school difference affect academic achievement and determine effects of different educational variables on academic achievement: 3) studying the degree of effects of school difference on individual school attainment. The target population for this research was 1735 students from 16 middle schools and 1619 students from 25 high schools respectively. For analysing the data collected from geographically well represented schools. I used co-efficency, F-test and regresional analysis as main analytical tools. The research results shows that there is no meaningful relationship between middle school student academic achievement and school difference. The degree of effect of above mentioned two factors was neglgible. Furthermore, for middle school students the school difference has no significant effect on the determinant structure of school attainment. Neverthless, this was not the case for the high school student. There was meaningful relationship between high school student academic achievement and school difference. The degree of positive relationship between academic achievement and school difference went up to 10%. For high school student, the school difference have accompanied with extra teaching for the positive shool attainment. In sum, the school difference had the significant effect on the determinant structure of high school student academic achievement The research has important implication for the equalization policy of the government: the equalization policy can be rationalised for he middle school student but not for the high school student considering its impact on school attainment. Knowing that the school difference has significant effect on the determinant structure of high school student academic student, the universal application of 'equalization policy' to the all secondary schools will may lead to the unexpected structural inefficiency of our education system.

선행 연구 결과는 과외가 학업성적에 영향을 미치는 것으로 보고하고 있다. 그러나 본 연구 결과에 의하면 과외의 효과는 중학생에게는 있고 고등학생에게는 없는 것으로 나타났다. 중학생의 경우도 극히 미미한 영향을 미칠 뿐이다.
