        레이저광의 최대.최소 편향법을 이용한 액체의 굴절률 측정

        프리즘 분광기는 굴절률 측정을 위한 표준 장치로, 대학교 실험실에서 사용되는 전형적인 실험 기구이지만, 정렬할 때 많은 주의가 요구되고 장치의 견고함에 비해 측정된 굴절률의 정확도는 떨어진다. 이러한 단점을 보완한 최대 최소 편향법은 회전 플랫폼과 길이 측정용 테이프로 저렴하게 장치가 구성되고 넓은 스크린을 활용하여 비교적 정확하게 굴절률을 측정할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 한변이 26 mm인 속이 빈 등변 프리즘을 제작하여 글리세린($C_3H_5(OH)_2$), 사염화탄소($CCl_4$), 아닐린($C_6H_4NH_2$), 이황화탄소($CS_2$), 크실렌($C_6H_4(CH_3)_2$) 등의 액체를 채워, He-Ne 레이저의 파장 632.8 nm와 $YVO_4$ 레이저의 파장 532 nm에 대해 프리즘 분광기와 최대 최소법으로 이들 액체의 굴절률을 측정하였다. 측정결과 최대 최소법으로 얻어진 데이터가 프리즘분광기에 의해 얻어진 데이터보다 더 정확하고 정밀함을 확인하였다. The prism spectrometer is a standard device for the measurement of refractive index; it is used in undergraduate laboratories. Typically, however, lots of attention is required in the alignment, and the accuracy of the obtained refractive index is not so high in spite of the durability of the device. The maximum and minimum deviation method, which compensates the disadvantages of the prism spectrometer, can be composed cost effectively using a length marking tape and a rotating platform. It can measure the refractive indices accurately by utilizing a wide screen. In this study, the equal sided hollow prism whose length is 26 mm was fabricated and measured the refractive indices of seven kind of liquids (pure water, $C_3H_5(OH)_2$, $CCl_4$, $C_6H_4NH_2$, $CS_2$, $C_6H_4(CH_3)_2)$ by using the prism spectrometer and maximum and minimum deviated laser beam method at the wavelengths of He-Ne laser (${\lambda}$= 632.8 nm) and YVO4 laser (${\lambda}$= 532 nm). The result shows that the data obtained by the latter method are more accurate and precise than those obtained by the former device.

        레이저 미세가공 기술을 이용한 초소형 전자빔 장치용 정전장 전자렌즈의 제작

        For electron beam lithography and SEM(scanning electron microscopy) applications, miniaturized electrostatic lenses called a microcolumn have been fabricated. In this paper, we report the fabrication technique for 20~30$\mu\textrm{m}$ apertures of electron lenses based on silicon and Mo membrane using an active Q-switched Nd:YAG laser. Experimental conditions of laser micromachining for silicon and Mo membrane are improved. The geometrical structures, such as the diameter and the preciseness of the micron-size aperture are dependent upon the total energy of the laser pulse train, laser pulse width, and the diameter of laser spot.

        In automotive brake disk, hot spot on disk surface causes a local contact friction between the disk surface and the disk pad. This non-uniform contact friction worsens the local heat concentration on the disk surface. The nonuniform contact caused by hot spot affects the disk pad, through which it affects the oil pressure system of the disk. The pressure change in the oil pressure system then affects the hot spot on the disk surface through the pad in tum. There is a correlation between the vibration due to the contact friction and the pressure change in the disk brake and research is needed on hot spot on a disk brake and the pressure change in an oil pressure system.

      • I/Q Homodyne 간섭계를 이용한 아세틸렌 가스의 굴절률과 흡수계수의 동시 측정에 관한 연구

        Generally when the light beam propogates through a material medium the phase and intensity of the light are subjected to change. These changes are determined by the refractive index and the absorption coefficient of the medium. If one of these parameters is known then the other parameter can be determined by the Kramers-Kronig relation. In this experiment a new experimental technique which can measure the refractive index and absorption coefficient at the same time using I/Q homodyne interferometer is shown. It can measure in-phase and quadrature phase of a probe beam at the same time. Potential use of this technique in measuring the optical properties of the medium is discussed

        The value of the geometrical phase observed with two disconnected uniformly wound quarter-turn optical fibers and a linear polarizer between them is quite different from that measured with a uniformly wound half turn optical fiber although evolution curves in the propogation vector sphere for the cases are the same We try to analyze the experimental data by applying the geodesic rule to each evolution curve for the two quarter turn fibers Although this is only a trial, the theoretically obtained values are well compatible with the experimental data.

        The values of the geometric phase observed with and without are not different from that measured with a uniformly wound optical fiber. The experimental data is found to be independent of measurement of polarizer by applying the geodesic rule for the noncyclic. we can not apply the geodesic rule for the cyclic.

        We report experimental verification of Berry's topological phase. The key elements in the experiment was a single mode, helically wound optical fiber, inside which a photon of a given helicity could be adiabatically transported around a closed path in momentum space. The experiment confirmed at the classical level that the angle of rotation of linearly polarized light in this fiber gives a direct measure of Berry's phase. The topological nature of this effect was also verified, ie, the rotation was found to be independent of deformations of fiber path if the solid angle of the path in momentum space stayed constant.

        For a cyclic evolution, the value of the geometrical phase is unique. we discuss that, for a noncyclic evolution, it may have two different values in cases with and without measurements in the projective Hilbert space, respectively. that which value of them will be calculated depends on the use of geodesic rule. In order to illustrate this, we propose the calculation method of Berry s phase by the use of geodesic rule in the systems of adiabatic and noncyclic evolution curves.

        We report an experimental verification of Berry s phase for noncyclic evolution curves by use of the geodesic rule. we measure the rotation of the plane of polarization in the system of uniformly wound half turn single mode optical fibers The experiments show that we can extract such purely geometric effects for noncyclic evolution.

      • A Faraday Current Sensor using the Line Integral Method of the Magnetic field

        We propose and experimentally demonstrate a new topology for an optical Faraday current sensor that is based on the finite line integral method of the magnetic field. Emulating a conventional closed loop type current sensor head since these sensors are fabricated in the form of either a rod or a glass slab along the perpendicular direction to a conductor carrying current it can used to make the measurement without interrupting the current.
