Knowledge-Based Approach for Computer-Aided Simulation Modeling

A computer-aided simulation modeling system has been developed to allow the automatic construction of complete discrete simulation models for queueing systems. Three types of knowledge are used in the specification and construction of a simulation modeling: Knowledge of queueing system, simulation modeling, and a target simulation language. This knowledge has been incorporated into the underlying rule base in the form of extraction and construction rule, and implemented via the expert system building tool, OPS5. This paper suggested a knowledge based approach for automatic programming to enable a user who lacks modeling knowledge and simulation language expertize to quickly build executable models.

The stochastic manufacturing system has one or more random variables as inputs that lead to random outputs. Since the outputs are random, they can be considered only as estimates of the true characteristics of the system. These estimates could greatly differ from the corresponding real characteristics for the system. Multiple replications are necessry to get reliable information on the system and output data should be analyzed to get optimal solution. It requires too much computation time prac cally. In this paper a GA method, named Stochastic Genetic Algorithm(SGA) is proposed and tested to find the optimal solution fast and efficiently by reducing the number of replications.

The cost of simulation modeling, the expertise required, and the pains of starting a new each time are impediments to more wide spread adoption of simulation technology. In addition, one of the most critical problems in the field of computer simulation today is the lack of published models and physical objects within the World Wide Web (WWW) allowing such distribution. From the viewpoint of WWW as distributed model repositories, it can be assumed that very many simulation models exist on the web. This paper is based on the premise that WWW is a distributed repository. Design Pattern, web-oriented techn ogy like Java and COREA, which are especially to cope with distributed objects, are introduced and discussed in detail for integration of simulation model. In this paper an architecture of model integration is proposed, which presents the whole procedure of model integration and how the Internet technologies are connected in. The classification of objects from the digitized images is one of the most important tasks of computer vision systems. In this paper, the new algorithm for pattern classification is described. It is based on the use of the signature and the autocorrelation which represent the shapes of boundaries detected in digitized binary images of the parts. And then Neural Network is applied for the pattern matching of parts. The autocorrelation representing the parts is invariant to the transformations like scaling, translation, and rotation of the image of parts. Also, the computation procedure of this algorithm is very simple. This algorithm could be applied to an accurate and fast recognition and inspection of parts in the automated manufacturing systems.
