Cracking of slabs would be caused by applied loads and volume changes during the life of a structure. And it reduces flexural stiffness of slabs and increases lateral flexibility. Thus, a stiffness reduction phenomenon due to slab cracking must be considered in stiffness assumptions for lateral drift calculations. A combined analytical and experimental study about the stiffness reduction factor of slabs in a flat plate structure is conducted. In analytical study, the stiffness reduction factor is changed by the magnitude of gravity loads and column spans, but its variation is much reduced by lateral loads. The stiffness reduction factor for combined loads ranges from a half to a quarter. This range matches the commentary specified in ACI 318-02. A test of nine-connection flat plate frames constructed at fifty percent of full scale is undertaken. This test provides data on lateral response at the service gravity load level. Based on a 0.2 percent drift criterion for building serviceability and a 0.5 percent drift criterion for story safety, the comparisons between test results and analysis results using the effective beam width model are performed. The experimental study shows that the stiffness reduction of the interior connection is much smaller than the stiffness reduction of the other connections, and the effective beam width model with a constant stiffness reduction factor of one-third gives a close stiffness estimate for the test structure.

Using reinforced concrete intermediate moment-resisting frames(RC IMRFs), an analytical procedure is presented in this paper to establish R factor rationally. To this end, analytical R values were evaluated based on N2 Method and compared with the values recommended by IBC 2000. Overall, the analytical results correlated well with the code values. However the results also revealed that R factor might strongly depend on the system fundamental period.

Code based earthquake resistance design approach has some major shortcomings linked to the current R factor though it has a conceptual background for safety. As evidenced by the interstory drift index(IDI) analysis results of this study for IMRFs, current R-factor based (or, Life Safety based) design tends to fail in fulfilling other implicit and hopeful performance objectives such as Immediate Occupancy and Collapse Prevention. Performance based design(PBD) appears to be a promising approach to meet the multi level seismic performance objectives assigned to the building structures of nowadays.

자연재해 중 시설 파괴 규모나 인위적 경제적 피해정도에 있어서 지진은 직접적인 피해가 엄청난 재난이다. 특히 현대사회의 산업화로 도시는 인구가 집중되고 시설물이 대형화되면서 그 기능이 복잡다양해지고 있어 지진이 발생할 경우 도시의 사회ㆍ경제활동이 장기간 마비되는 사태가 발생하기도 한다. 본 논문에서는 건축물 구조해석에 의한 내진평가체계를 수립하고 내진평가에 필요한 다양한 자료들을 GIS DB화하여 건물의 내진성능평가를 수행함으로써, 개별 건물의 지진위험등급 산정과 GIS기반으로 지진위험도를 체계적으로 평가할 수 있는 정보체계를 구축하여 지진발생시 피해규모 및 범위를 추정할 수 있는 정보체계구축의 가능성을 제시하였다.

The government of South Korea enacted Earthquake Recovery Plan Act in 2008. In order to meet the requirement of this law, the important buildings, such as schools, public offices and so on, are in the process of seismic retrofit. This paper introduces the experimental data about a non-retrofitted concrete column and retrofitted column with a bolt assembly type CFT(concrete-filled steel tube).
