This study analyzes the cool-down process of liquid hydrogen storage tanks, which have advantages in terms of large-capacity transfer, storage, and utilization as hydrogen demand increases. A hydrogen liquefaction plant is selected for analysis and an efficient tank cooling method is sought by comparing the time required for the cool-down process with the gas consumption in connection with the gassing-up process required for the operation of the liquid hydrogen storage tank. The results of this study can be referred to in the operation process after the initial start-up and maintenance of the hydrogen liquefaction plant.

In this study, the effects of the slot jet flow on the thermal performance of plate heat sinks are investigated. Heat sink experiments are conducted using heat sinks and heaters whose dimensions are 40 × 40 mm. A slot nozzle installed at the exit of a wind tunnel is used to form a slot jet flow that is blasted onto the plate heat sink. For the parametric study, the slot width is changed from 5 mm to 40 mm, while the fin height is changed from 5 to 20 mm. The thermal performance of the plate heat sink is evaluated using the pressure drop and thermal resistance. The experiments demonstrate the existence of an optimal slot width where the thermal resistance is minimized at the same pressure drop. Further, the optimal slot width increases with the fin height of the heat sink.
