        Just as articulated as National Intangible Heritage by Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea in the designation announcement of Jeju keun-gut, the Jeju traditional shamanic religion can be said to be “living” and is very valuable as systematic academic materials. Many Jeju people still outline the principle of their lives on the basis of traditional myths and reenact the myths in carrying out rituals at each stage of their lives, at both the level of community and that of family. Jeju myths provide people an overall worldview that covers perspectives of human beings, souls, nature, gods, and cosmos. Jeju myths not only demonstrate the characteristics of Korean shamanism, more specifically, those of Jeju shamanic tradition, but also help students attain better understandings of myth itself. Likewise, Jeju rituals, including keun-gut, are useful materials for comprehending general properties of ritual, while showing distinct aspects of the Jeju religion. Jeju rituals are also invaluable for studying the Korean shamanic tradition, in that they contain religious thoughts and practices that are now difficult to be seen in most places of Korea. Hereafter, more comprehensive and better organized research on the Jeju religion than now should be conducted.

      • 첫 순교자 묘에서 꿈꾸다 : 하늘과 땅을 잇는 세계의 중심, 초남이성지

        This article addresses three critical issues concerning the relics of the first Catholic martyrs in Korea, which were discovered in Wanju, Jeollabuk-do Province, in March 2021. First, it is shown through a meticulous examination that the relics discovered are really those of Yun Jichung, Gwon Sangyeon, and Yun Jiheon, and that Yun Jichung and Gwon Sangyeon should be considered the first martyrs. Second, I explain the meaning of the graves of the martyrs to the early Korean Catholics from the perspective of comparative religion. Catholics of the Honam area in the late 18<sup>th</sup> and early 19<sup>th</sup> centuries believed that a cathedral, which they called “the house of the Heavenly Lord” and also “the house of heaven,” would be built on the graves of the first martyrs, when Catholicism would prosper in Korea. This church meant “the center of the world” to them, in that it provided a fixed point which Korean Catholics would be oriented towards. Third, I suggest possible answers to the question why the Confucian ruling class persecuted early Korean Catholics by articulating the differences in their cosmology. The Confucian elite of the Joseon dynasty did not approve of the doctrine of heaven and hell, and the notion of God as the creator and the sovereign of the universe. Early Korean Catholics were not controlled by the threat of pain and death, due to their belief in God, who was even higher than the king, and their aspiration to heaven beyond this world.

        인간을 변화시키는 종교와 종교학

        Mircea Eliade emphasized that human beings had recognized the irreversible condition of time and history and that they had developed and used religious myths and rituals to overcome it. According to Eliade, religion and education have very similar aims and functions in that they not only provide paradigmatic models for people to imitate but also serve to change human personality. Furthermore, he asserted, “the history of religions affirms itself as a ‘pedagogy,’ … for it is susceptible of changing man.” This is especially important in the desacralized modern world where the influence of religion is on the decline while the “horror” of history is increasing. Eliade expected the history of religions to help people gain a deep understanding of themselves. By showing and teaching how religious people recover and experience the sacred, or what is beyond history and temporality, the history of religions can allow secularized modern people to become aware of their religiosity that has been forgotten. In addition, Eliade thought that the discipline could help people improve their ability to coexist with one another in the multi-religious modern society. On the other hand, it is also important to note that Eliade did not pay much attention to negative influences of religion, such as cases in which religions oppress people, change their personalities negatively or even destroy them. By focusing on significance and values that transcend history, Eliade often deemphasized concrete historical situations.

        침투시험에서의 콘크리트 표적크기 영향 분석

        This paper deals with the effect of concrete target size on penetration of projectiles. We investigated the penetration depth and residual velocity of projectiles using the 2-D axial symmetric model. Most analysis were conducted with 13 kg projectile (striking velocity: 456.4 m/s) and concrete target with compressive strength of 39 MPa. This paper provided penetration depth (or residual velocity) versus ratio D/d (target diameter, D and projectile diameter, d). When the bottom of concrete cylinder was constrained, penetration depth converged to limit depth more than the ratio D/d of 36. The residual velocity of projectile with thin concrete target were investigated. The residual velocity was converged to specific velocity more than the ratio D/d of 16.

        탄두의 콘크리트 관통 시 스케일 영향

        This paper deals with the scale effects of warhead on concrete penetration. We investigated the scale effects using finite element analysis and Young's penetration equation. As the scale of penetration test decreases, the strain rate effects of target increases, and then strength of concrete target increases. This means the residual velocity and penetration depth of warhead decreases as the test model size decreases. Young's penetration equations are transformed with various penetrator mass and scale cases as a function of scale ratio. Penetration distance and residual velocity are not simply changed by the geometric scaling law.
