Thermally Activated Building System(TABS) is a radiant heating and cooling system which uses structures as thermal storage by embedding pipes in a concrete slab. Using TABS as the cooling system in residential buildings can reduce energy consumption and peak loads. But the ratio of cooling loads handled by TABS is low in the residential buildings which are significantly influenced by outside condition because condensation and over-cooling may occur. However, recent interest on energy-saving buildings is increasing and new residential buildings are expected to be less influenced by outside with high-insulation and shading. In such residential buildings, the heating and cooling loads and the range of load changes reduce. So the ratio of loads handled by TABS can increase. Therefore, this research investigates the cooling performance and energy performance of TABS in the residential buildings with less influence from outside using the simulation.

The current individual radiant floor heating system is designed with a consideration on a peak load condition while all rooms are heated. However, most of the heating load in the heating season is a part load and the amount of the supply water exceeds the designed flow rate by concentration on the heating rooms. In addition, individual boiler operates on short cycle due to low flow rate, which causes the greater energy consumption. In this study, problems of individual radiant floor heating system under the part load condition are analyzed through experiments and it will be used as a fundamental data for future study on improving the individual radiant floor heating system.

In summer, energy consumption of air conditioner is a large part of building energy consumption and it may cause electric overload. In order to reduce the energy consumption, a radiant cooling system can be one of the solutions, because it uses water instead of air. Especially Thermally Activated Building System(TABS) is a type of radiant cooling that uses a structure as a thermal storage by embedding pipes in concrete slab. This research investigates total energy consumption and peak energy consumption of the air conditioner and the air conditioner integrated with TABS in residential buildings to evaluate the energy performance.

Compared to Packaged Terminal Air Conditioning Systems, Radiant Cooling Systems have the advantage of energy saving and thermal comfort. Thermally Activated Building System (TABS) is one of the radiant heating and cooling systems. The main difference between TABS and other radiant systems lies in the usage of the time-lag effect of storing heat energy in the concrete. Current energy usage in summer time is concentrated within a specific time by using Packaged Terminal Air-Conditioner (PTAC). Due to the time-lag effect of TABS, energy usage can be distributed to other time zones. To maximize this effect, it is important to determine the appropriate operating mode, which for TABS is dependent upon the cooling load generated by the occupancy schedule. In this study, occupancy schedules are determined for various residential types. The operating modes of TABS for these residential types are estimated by using a dynamic computational simulation method. The results indicate that the operating modes of TABS can be determined by residential type and occupancy schedule. The load handled ratio by TABS is set up differently according to the cooling load profile obtained from residential type and occupancy schedule. By using TABS, energy consumption could be reduced by 20% compared to PTAC.

In this study, water supply characteristics ware analyzed under the condition of part load in the apartment house complex using a district heating source. And then, effects and limitations of the each heating system component were derived. For evaluation, real case of the apartment house complex using a district heating source was selected and then simulation with the real design data was performed. Simulation results show that over flow water supply has happened under the condition of part load in the traditional hydronic(flow) network and over flow rate becomes larger with the longer piping and smaller load. In conclusion, although pressure differential control valves are good for the hydronic(flow) balancing effect between two apartments in the same zone, they still can’t solve the over flow problem between each housing, especially to the upstairs. A flow limit valve also can’t make the each room hydronic(flow) balancing under the condition of part load. In addition, results show that a variable speed pump loses the flow control ability as it sets up with the pressure differential control valves, and the pressure control saves very small pump energy compared with the high initial costs for VFD (Variable Frequency Drive).

The thermally activated building system(TABS) is a thermal storage that uses the concrete slab to reduce the peak cooling load. A typical design method of cooling system considers a peak load in a steady state. However, the design of the TABS should consider the time-lag effect due to the high heat capacity of the concrete slab in an un-steady state. Therefore, this paper analyzed the performance of the TABS by examining the energy consumption and saving for different operation period and supply water temperature without over-cooling and condensation.

The thermally activated building system (TABS) is a thermal storage that uses the concrete slab to reduce the peak cooling load. A radiant cooling/heating system is typically designed with consideration on a peak load in a steady state to size the capacity. However, the design of the TABS should consider the time-lag effect due to the high heat capacity of the concrete slab in an un-steady state. Temperature of the concrete slab cannot be changed instantly, which may cause overcooling, overheating and condensation. This paper analyzed the design method considering the un-steady state using building simulation for more effective application of TABS. In order to achieve the objective, applicable range of the load handled by TABS should be determined. And the design method to operate the TABS with steady supply water temperature and operation period is proposed.

The purpose of this study is to analyze whether color marketing of fashion brands have an effect on brand personality, brand awareness and purchase intention. The data was collected from September 18 to October 12 in 2007, and analyzed the 720 subjects. The statistical analysis methαIs was frequency analysis, reliability analysis, factor analysis, multiple regression analysis. The results of this study were as follows. First, color marketing factors of the fashion brands were differentiation symbolism, association and attention. And personality factors of the fashion brands were sincerity, liberty, sophistication and competence. Second, color marketing factors of the fashion brands had an effect on brand personality, brand awareness and purchase intention. Therefore, the more recognition about color marketing factors of the fashion brands were higher, the more brand personality, brand awareness and purchase intention of the fashion consumers was higher. Third, personality and awareness of the fashion brands bad an effect on purchase intention. Therefore, the more recognition about personality and awareness of the fashion brands were higher, the more purchase intention of the fashion consumers was higher.
