Multidimensional scaling(MDS) is the problem of representing n objects geometrically by p points, so that the interpoint distance correspand in some sence to experimental similareties between subjects. The key objective of Multidimensional scaling procedeurs is a low-dimensional pictures. Whenever Multivariate data can be presented graphically in two or three dimensions, visual inspection can greatly aid interpretations. Kruskal proposed a measure of the extent to which a geometrical representation falls short of a perfect match. This measure is stress.
