This study is a review and analysis of 161 cases of the inguinal hernia treated at the Department of General Surgery, Ewha Womans University Hospital from January, 1971 to December, 1978. The results were as follows: 1. The incidence of the abdominal hernia was 3.7% of the total patients. 2. Among 196 cases of the abdominal hernia, the incidence of the inguinal hernia was 161 cases(82.1%). 3. Male was predominated over female by the ratio of 8:1. 4. The location of the inguinal hernia: 121 cases (75.2%) in the right, 30 cases (18,6%) in the left, 10 cases (6.2%) bilaterally. 5. Indirect inguinal hernia is the most frequent from the inguinal hernia consisting of 99.4%. 6. The chief complaints were inguinal mass in 115 cases and scrotal swelling in 56 cases. 7. The' incarceration is 21 cases (13.0%), "strangulation is 9 cases (5.6%) and 18 cases (11.2%) of all patients had hydrocele. 8. 87 cases (54.0%) of all hernia were repaired by Bassini method, 40 cases (24.8%) by Ferguson. 26 cases (14.1%) by McVay and 8 cases (5.6%) by hight ligation. 9. The postoperative complications (14 cases of 161 cases) were pneumonia 3 cases, wound infection 2 cases, fever of unknown origin 2 cases, phlebitis 2 cases, sepsis 1 case, cardiac complication 1 case, subcutaneous hematoma 1 case, paralytic ileus 1 case and recurrent hernia 1.

A 7 years old boy with chief complants of acute abdominal pain, fever, nausea and vomiting, was preoperatively diagnosed as acute appendicitis. However, it was postoperatively confirmed that the above distress were due to acute primary Mekel's diverticulitis. The size of the diverticulum was 8cm in length and 4cm in width. It was located at approximately 70cm above ileo-cecal junction. Macroscopically and histologically acute inflammatory changes were found. The patient was discharged on 7th hospital day with satisfactory convalescence.
한국인 청년기 남자의 체격계측 성적과 상관관계에 관한 연구

In order to investigate the physical growth conditions of the Korean high school boys, the stature, span, upper extremity length, lower extremity length and body weight of 3,755 high school boys ranging from 16 to 19 years of age were measured. In addition, the correlation coefficients between the items were calculated by each age group. The results are summarized as follows: 1. The average stature showed 166.78㎝ in 16 years age group, 168.84㎝ in 18 years age group respectively, so the annual average growth in the stature was 1.0㎝, but the stature of 18 and 19 years age group showed almost the same records, and no significant difference between both age groups was observed in the stature. 2. The average span showed 166.71㎝ in 17 years age group, 168.93㎝ in 18 years age group respectively, so the annual average growth showed 1.11㎝, but the span of 18 and 19 years age group showed almost the same records and no significant difference between both age group was observed. 3. The average length of upper extremity showed 73.85㎝ in 16 years age group, 74.66㎝ in 17 years age group respectively, so the annual average growth showed 0.36㎝, but the records of 18 and 19 years age group showed almost the same records, and no significant difference between both age group was observed in the upper extremity length. 4. The average length of lower extremity showed 91.08㎝ in 16 years age group, 91.92㎝ in 18 years age group respectively, so the annual average growth showed 0.42㎝, but the records of 18 and 19 years age group showed almost the same records, and no significant difference between both age group was observed in the lower extremity length. 5. The average body weight showed 56.55㎏ in 16 years age group, 59.63㎏ in years age group, so the annual average growth in the body weight showed 1.5㎏, but the records between 18 to 19 years age group showed slight variation, and the annual average growth change in the body weight showed only 0.12㎏. 6. Judging from the all items mentioned above, it was found that the growth of Korean boys was rapid until 18 years of age and 18 years of age seem to be the completion period of actual growth. 7. The correlation coefficients between stature and span, and also between span and upper extremity showed very high value as more than 0.8 respectively. 8. The correlation coefficients between stature and lower extremity, between span and lower extremity, and also between upper extremity and lower extremity showed high value as more than 0.6 respectively. 9. The correlation coefficients between stature and body weight, span and body weight, upper extremity and body weight, and also between lower extremity and body weight showed middle value as less than 0.6. 10. All correlation coefficients between each item mentioned above have a tendency to reduce with the increase of age.
