A Plastic Bonded Explosive(PBX) is mainly composed of nitramine explosive and polymer binder. The great number of serious applications of PBX requires the good adhesion between nitramine crystals and binder, which depends on the surface characteristics of a filler and binder. In the pursuit of the better design to achieve the enhanced adhesion, profound knowledge of the surface and interfacial characteristics of explosive and binder should be exploited. In this study, the influences of physicochemical properties between RDX and binders such as interfacial tension($\gamma_{SL}$), latent heat($Q_m$), and density($\rho$) on impact sensitivity of PBX were investigated. As experimental results, the major contribution factor to impact sensitivity of PBX was the interfacial tension, compare with other surface properties. The correlation coefficient of $H_{50}$ versus $\gamma_{SL}$ is 0.9932 when a polynomial regression method was used.

Nitramine-polymer composites suffer from a problem known as dewetting. Dewetting adversely affects the performance and the sensitivity characteristics of an explosive composition. Voids, which are generated between explosive particles and binder on dewetting, act as initiation sites. For a PBXs as well as propellants, where good adhesion and mechanical properties are of great importance, dewetting therefore must be prevented by strong adhesion between the filler and the binder. The surface energy of materials is measured by Wilhelmy plate and wicking method. The interfacial energy between the filler and the binder is calculated from the disperse phase and the polar phase of surface energy. Time dependent compressive properties of composite explosives have been determined by stress-strain curves obtained at different strain rates and temperatures. The interfacial state of the PBX was observed through SEM. It was found from the result that the interface between the explosive and the binder becomes better adhesion with decreasing interfacial tension and increasing work of adhesion. The result clearly shows that the castable PBX has good adhesion more than the pressable PBX.

ADN은 환경적인 그리고 독성적인 측면에서 ammonium prochlorate를 대체하는 현재 연구중인 물질이다. 고독성의 발암물질인 하이드라진을 대체할 수 있는 액체 추진제에 적용되기도 한다. ADN의 합성은 현재 GUDN(Guanylurea dinitramide)과 potassium hydroxide를 통해 potassium dinitramide(KDN)얻을 수 있다. 두 번째 반응 단계는 KDN과 ammonium sulfate를 반응하여 ADN을 얻어진다. 우리의 새로 개선된 공정은 GUDN으로부터 한단계로 ADN을 합성하는 것이다. 부산물의 양을 줄이고 잠재적으로 낮은 단가의 ADN 제조되는 순도가 개선된 간단한 공정은 ADN 사용을 지지하기 위해 결정적이다. Ammonium dinitramide(ADN) is currently under inder investigation as a replacement for ammonium perchlorate, both for environmental and toxicological reasons. Another promising application is ADN-based liquid monopropellant as a replacement for hydarzine, which is highly toxic and carcinogenic. Production of ADN is today normally performed via guanylurea dinitramide(GUDN) by reaction with potassium hydroxide to yiela potassium dinitramide(KDN). In a second reaction step, KDN is reacted with ammonium sulfate to give ADN. In our new improved process, ADN is synthesized from GUDN in one single reaction step. The simplified process improves purity, reduces the amount of by-products and allows production of ADN at a potentially lower cost, which is crucial to favour the use of ADN.
