This paper is intended to investigate the awareness of the elementary school students about the natural environment preservation. For this purpose, 21 elementary school students from the 5th grade of elementary school located in Gwangju city were selected. Especially, we focused on the students' conceptions related to 1) the environments, 2) the safe national land development activity to face several natural disasters and 3) the environmental preservation with the national land development. To evaluate the change of students' conceptions for the national land development, the students were also participated in establishing the plan of the national land development using the model of the natural environment after learning in detail about the natural environments. The results of this study showed that most of the students recognized the concept of the environments as a simple knowledge itself and pollution rather than the protection of environment. In the course of the safe national land development activity to face several natural disasters, the students expressed standardized answer indicating the knowledge based thinking of the environments. According to the results of the environmental preservation with the national land development and the hypothetical project of the national land development, the students did not have enough knowledge for the natural environment preservation although they had understanding of natural disasters and environmental preservation. Therefore, it is necessary to stress affirmative concept for the environment related to the preservation of natural environment. Also we need to develop the syllabus, which is related to the environmental studies, in the elementary educational program leading students to participate in the environmental preservation with the national land development reasonably and practically.
선소 해역 부근의 해양 환경 개선 사업 고찰 및 주민들의 환경 인식 조사에 대한 연구

The relationship between marine environmental improvement and environmental perception of the inhabitants was investigated. For this purpose, the seawater and bottom materials were analysed. Apart from this, the questionnaire surveys were also conducted around the Sun-so coastal area. In order to examine the improvement in the marine environment, 12 monitoring sites, which are located around Sun-so coast and can be divided into two parts such as inland (GW1-GW6) and outland (GW7-GW12) sea, were chosen. All the collected samples were analyzed to find out the quality of seawater (temperature, pH, salinity, dissolved oxygen: DO, chemical oxygen demand: COD and suspend solid: SS), nutrients (total nitrogen: TN and phosphate: PO₄-P) and bottom materials (COD, volatile solids: VS) as per the standard analytical procedures. In addition, the questionnaire mainly focused on the following three factors: 1) social economy, 2) dependent environmental awareness and 3) independent environmental awareness related with the environmental education. The monitoring studies indicated that the marine environment of the Sun-so coast showed various trends for analyzing parameter. No significant temporal changes in temperature, pH and salinity were observed. However, the other parameters showed decreasing (COD, SS, TN, PO₄-P and VS) and increasing (DO) trends according to the quality of seawater and bottom materials. The questionnaire survey clearly showed that most of the residents in Sun-so recognized the improvement of marine environment as compared with the situation experienced in the past. The dredging project which is closely related with economic and living conditions of the local residents led to alter the environmental perceptions and attitudes. The survey also indicated that the inhabitants perceived the necessity of the environmental education (87% of respondents) and preferred regular schooling (55% of respondents) as effective and practical education methods.

에너지 저장 및 환경 관련 분야에 응용 흡착매질로 바이오매스 기반 활성탄의 중요성을 살펴보았다. 지금까지 발표된 연구 결과는 바이오매스 기반 활성탄의 표면적과 기공부피 이외에 이들의 표면 화학 특성 또한 다양한 분야에 응용될 수 있는 중요한 역할이 있음이 확인된다. 바이오매스 기반 활성탄의 용량은 바이오매스의 특성 및 이들의 활성화 공정에 따라 달라지므로 다양한 응용 분야에 맞게 제조할 수 있다. 따라서 본 리뷰에서는 다양한 분야에 이용되고 있는 바이오매스 기반 활성탄의 역할을 정리하였다. The importance of the biomass-based activated carbon as an adsorbent has been reviewed with emphasizing on the application in the fields of energy storage and environmental related problems. It is clear from the literature survey that beside surface area and pore volume, surface chemistry also plays important role in determining their usage in various field. The capacities of biomass-based activated carbon can be increased depending upon the choice of the biomass used and the pathway taken for their activation and hence they can be tailored for various applications. Accordingly, this review summarizes the role of biomass based activated carbon in different applications.
휘발성 유기화합물 완전산화에 대한 폐 Pd촉매 및 폐 Cu촉매의 촉매 활성: 고온가스 처리 효과

여수 석유 화학 공정에서 폐기된 폐 Pd촉매와 폐 Cu촉매의 반응활성 관계를 휘발성 유기화합물(VOCs) 반응 실험으로 조사하였다. 특히 수소와 공기를 이용하여 이들 폐 촉매를 473 K, 573 K그리고 673 K의 온도에서 재생 처리하여 재생 처리 방법이 휘발성 유기화합물과 재생 촉매 사이의 반응활성에 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다. 이 연구에서 촉매 산화 특성은 Arrhenius 식을 이용하여 분석하였다. 그리고 폐 촉매와 재생 처리한 촉매의 물리화학적 특성은 질소 흡착 등온선, X-선회절분석기(XRD), 유도 결합 플라즈마 분광광도계(ICP), X-선 광전자 분광기(XPS)로 조사하였다. 실험결과 휘발성 유기 화합물에 대한 Pd촉매 및 Cu촉매의 활성은 재생 처리 가스 및 재생 처리 온도에 따라 서로 차이가 났고, 특히 이들 촉매의 활성은 촉매의 표면 상태가 금속 상태로 존재할 때 더 우수하였다. Catalytic oxidations of volatile organic compounds(VOCs) were investigated over spent Pd based catalyst and spent Cu based catalyst. Especially, the effect of regeneration method on the catalytic activity was examined. The spent Pd and spent Cu catalysts were regenerated with two different gases(hydrogen and air) at 473, 573, and 673 K, respectively. In this work, the Arrhenius equation was employed to evaluate the activity of the catalyst. Several methods such as nitrogen adsorption isotherm, X-ray diffraction (XRD), inductively coupled plasma(ICP) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) were used to characterize the spent catalyst and its regenerated catalyst. The results of VOCs oxidation indicated that the activities of catalysts were highly dependent on the regeneration conditions such as gas and temperature. It was also found that the hydrogen treated catalysts with metallic state were more active than the air treated catalysts with oxidation state and the spent catalysts.

The effects of sensing materials, coating methods, diluent gases, and temperature have been studied in detail to make a quartz crystal microbalance based adsorption sensor system for detecting gases. In particular, sensor elements for detecting NO2 and SO2, that are known as major air pollutants, have been prepared by coating two different polymers, polypyrrole and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene). The sensor elements prepared in this work have high sensitivity and selectivity for NO2 and SO2 at ppm level concentrations. It was proven that the sensing characteristics and response rate of the sensing elements are highly dependent on the coating method and the loading mass of sensing materials.
