연안지역 염수와 담수가 혼재하는 전이대에서 해수침투 피해개선을 목적으로 균열암반을 통한 담수주입시험을 수행하고 그 효과를 모니터링하였다. 담수주입은 절대적으로 그 지역의 지질학적, 수리학적 특성에 따라 좌우되며, 특히 파쇄대나 투수성 미고결 지층 등의 특성 파악이 중요하다. 연구 지역의 염담수 분포특성을 고려하여 두 개의 주요 연안 대수층인 충적층과 균열암반 구간을 통한 담수주입이 가능하도록 시추공을 설계 및 굴착하였으며, 균열암반 대수층 내 담수주입을 위하여 현장에서의 시험 준비, 이동, 조립 및 장비의 유지보수가 간단하도록 착탈식인 모듈화되어 있는 주입시스템을 제작하여 적용하였다. 시추공영상화검층을 통해 전체적인 균열의 특성을 파악하였고, 이를 바탕으로 주입공 및 관측공 간 투수성 파쇄대의 확인을 위한 구간별 담수주입 및 모니터링을 실시하여 담수주입 구간을 선정하였다. 담수주입시험 결과, 관측공의 일정 심도에서 담수가 유입되어 시간이 경과함에 따라 상부 구간의 전기전도도도 점진적으로 감소함을 보였으며, 담수주입 중단 및 패커를 해지한 후에도 유입된 심도에서 점진적으로 전기전도도값이 증가하기는 하지만 그 증가폭이 전체적으로 낮아 담수주입의 효과가 있음을 확인하였다. 또한 장기적으로 전기전도도값을 모니터링함으로써 담수주입의 효과가 수개월 후에도 지속됨을 확인하였으며, 이는 담수주입에 의해 일정 정도의 해수침투 피해에 대한 개선효과를 기대할 수 있음을 시사한다. Fresh water injection test in a fractured bedrock aquifer was applied as an efficient approach to lower saline concentrations in the saltwater-freshwater transition zone formed by seawater intrusion in a coastal area. The methodology and effectiveness of fresh water injection for hydraulically controlling seawater intrusion is overwhelmingly site dependent, and there is an urgent need to characterize the permeable fractures or unconsolidated porous formations which can allow for seawater flow and transport. Considering aquifer characteristics, injection and monitoring boreholes were optimally designed and completed to inject fresh water through sand layer and fractured bedrock, respectively. We devised and used the injection system using double packer for easy field operation and maintenance. Overall fracture distribution was systematically identified from borehole image logs, and the section of fresh water injection was decided from injection test and monitoring. With fresh water injection, the fluid electrical conductivity of the monitoring well started to be lowered by the inflow of fresh water at the specific depth. And this inflow leaded to the replacement of the fluid in the upper parts of the borehole with fresh water. Furthermore, the injection effect lasted more than several months, which means that fresh water injection may contribute to the mitigation of seawater intrusion in a coastal area.

We experienced a rare case of amyloidosis associated with tuberculosis. A 34-year-old man in was admitted because of multiple lymphadenopathy, intermittent fever, and generalized weakness. He showed massive proteinuria, metabolic acidosis, low creatinine clearance and hematmesis. The cervical lymph node biopsy revealed chronic granuloma with multinucleated giant cell and caseous necrosis consistent with tuberculous lymphadenopathy, and also showed diffuse deposition of homogenous amorphous eosinophilic material. The percutaneous needle biopsy of kidney showed massive infiltration of pale pinkish amorphous material in the glomerular mesangium. Gastric mucosal biopsy revealed infiltration of amorphous material in the lamina propria. Polarizing illumination after Congored staining on all the three tissue biopsy showed typical green birefringence. A computerized tomographic (CT) scan of the abdomen showed hepatosplenomegaly and both renal vein thrombosis. He was managed with peritoneal dialysis, anti-TBc medication, steroids and other supportive measures. Despite aggressive treatment, his condition deteriorated day by day. He was discharged with hopeless condition. This case indicated that we should not exclude a possibility of the secondary amyloidosis in case of tuberculosis and massive proteinuria. To our knowledge, we think that this case is the first case of amyloidosis associated with tuberculosis in Korea.
지하수 인공함양 지역 충적층 특성 평가를 위한 전기비저항탐사

Vertical electrical sounding and 2D electrical resistivity survey were applied for evaluating the characteristics of alluvial layers at a groundwater artificial recharge site. The fine particles in alluvial layer, main target layer of groundwater artificial recharge, may cause clogging phenomena. In this case, electrical resistivity method is an effective technique to verify the spatial distribution of low-resistivity layers, such as saturated silts and clays. On the other hand, much attention should be paid to interpret the resistivity data in unconsolidated layers, because thick clayey overburden sometimes produces a masking effect on underlying interbedded resistive sands and gravels. Considering these points, we designed 35 points arranged in a grid form for vertical electrical sounding and 10 lines for 2D electrical resistivity survey, and concentrated our effort on enhancing the vertical and horizontal resolution of resistivity images. According to the results, 15 meters thick layers consisting of sands and gravels are located in 30 meters below ground. And the spatial distribution of silts and clays are mapped, which may cause clogging. Consequently, this approach can contribute to design and determine the location and depth of injection and observation wells for groundwater artificial recharge.

Acromegaly is a rare disease characterized by an increases growth of bone and soft tissue of the ex- tremities, as well as an increase in the size of the visceral organs due to an increases secretion of growth hormone. A prospective study identified an increases incidence of colonic polyps in acromegaly patients, raising the concern that these patients may be at in- creased risk for development of colon cancer. Other studies have suggested an increased incidence of gastrointestinal malignancies in acromegalies. We report a case of stomach cancer accompanying acromegaly, suggesting the possible carcinogenic role of growth hormone. And we believe this is the first case in Korean literature.

국내 연안지역에서 광범위하게 발생하고 있는 해수침투를 정확하게 평가하고, 이에 대한 대책을 수립하기 위해서는 다양한 분야의 연구와 이들 상호간의 자료 통합과 유기적인 해석은 매우 중요하다. 현재 수리지구화학, 지구물리탐사 및 수리지질 등의 다양한 분야에서 해수침투 연구를 수행하고 있지만, 이들 자료의 공유나 체계적인 관리분야는 초보적인 수준으로 다양한 자료에 대한 검색과 관리가 어려울 뿐만 아니라, 자료를 통합하여 해석하는데 어려움이 따른다 따라서 본 연구에서 정밀조사 지역인 전남 영광군 백수읍 일대에서 획득하고 분석한 지표 및 시추공 물리탐사자료와 수리지화학자료를 데이터베이스로 구축하고, ArcView 스크립트어인 Avenue를 이용하여 데이터베이스 관리 및 시추공 3차원 가시화 인터페이스를 개발하였다. 이와 같은 지리정보시스템(GIS; Geographic Information System) 기반의 데이터베이스 구축과 사용자 인터페이스 개발로 다양한 종류의 해수침투 조사자료를 효율적으로 관리하고 통합할 수 있기 때문에 보다 정확하고 종합적인 분석이 가능할 것이다. In order to effectively, and accurately assess seawater intrusion in coastal area, multidisciplinary data including geophysical, well logging, and hydrogeochemical data should be managed in systematical way. Such systematical management of data is critical key to improve the re-usability of the data as well as the accuracy of the assessment by means of providing a method of synthetic analysis. Therefore, for systematical management of multidisciplinary data in seawater intrusion problem, we have developed a database management system and 3-D visualization interface based on geographic information system in this, study. All geophysical survey, well logging, hydrochemical, as well as drilling, data are classified as attribute data using Microsoft Access, and joined with spatial information based on ArcView. The database management system and 3-D visualization interface to handle these data, also, developed using the script language of ArcView. We think the development of database and 3-D visualization system will improve the efficiency of data management, user-friendliness of data access, and accuracy of data analysis.
