In a service environment, the spatial layout is an important factor that has a great impact on customers’ behavioral characteristics including wayfinding and purchasing. Previous studies have shown a gap between marketing, focusing solely on profitability and satisfaction, and architecture, looking only into efficiency of pedestrian flow. To balance such disparity, this study suggests an integrated approach for assessing behavioral patterns in complex service environments. With the objective that complex service environments should aim to increase its profitability and efficiency while guaranteeing customer satisfaction, quantitative metrics was developed for evaluation. The metrics was defined to use data from behavior observation including path tracking, population counting, and gaze analysis, while previous studies have relied on abstract survey methods that were prone to sampling errors and loss of data. For validation of the metrics in a real world setting, a case study was conducted at 4 train stations in Korea. In the case study, experiments were conducted to gather the required data in all 4 train stations, while their physical layouts were also analyzed. With the results from the case study, comparative evaluation of the 4 train stations in terms of behavioral efficiency was possible, together with a discussion on the effect of their physical settings.
자동차 시트의 고급감에 관한 국내외 소비자의 인식 차이 연구

The purpose of this study is to identify the affective responses for automobile seats. In this study, we compared domestic and foreign user’s responses. Variables related to ‘luxuriousness’ consisting of eleven affective response variables were selected. Thirty domestic users and thirty foreign users evaluated five different automobile seats using a questionnaire survey with seven-point semantic differential scale. Visually ‘innovative’ and tactually ‘soft’ were commonly identified as the key affective response factor for ‘luxuriousness’ of an automobile seat both for domestic and foreign users. Visually ‘NOT simple’ was a key affective response factor of domestic users, while visually ‘cheerful’ was a key affective response factor of foreign users. The relationship between ‘luxuriousness’ and its related design variables of a car seat was identified and modeled.

본 연구의 목적은 물리적 사용자 인터페이스에 대한 조작 감성을 정의하고, 각 조작방식이 다른 물리적 사용자 인터페이스들의 조작 감성 변수들과 만족도 간의 관계를 파악하여 비교해보는 것이다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 우선 문헌 연구, 전문가 리뷰를 통해 조작 감성에 주요한 감성 축 두 가지(Force 측면, Vibration 측면)를 선정하고 그에 해당될 수 있는 감성변수들을 수집하였다. 수집된 감성 변수들을 요인 분석을 통해 각 차원에 맞는 감성 변수들을 그룹화하였다(Force: Softness, Elasticity, Heaviness, Smoothness; Vibration: Sharpness, Clearness, Rattle). 선정된 변수들을 바탕으로 물리적 인터페이스인 버튼, 터치 스크린, 조그다이얼의 감성 경험을 분석하였다. 분석 결과 각 물리적 인터페이스에서 중요한 감성 변수들이 달랐으며, 공통적으로 가장 중요한 변수로는 ‘Clearness’임을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구는 물리적 사용자 인터페이스의 조작 감성에 대한 이해에 도움을 줄 것으로 기대된다. The purpose of this study is to identify affective variables about control feeling of button, touch screen, jog dial, and explore their relationships with satisfaction of control feeling in order to compare each interface’s key affective experiences. In this study, two main dimensions (Force, Vibration) for control feeling of PUI and the elements of affective characterization of each dimension were identified based on the results of literature review, expert review, and factor analysis. In order to investigate actual relationship between the elements of affective characterization and satisfaction of control feeling, we conducted three evaluation experiments. All samples were designed using Latin square method to prevent any correlation effect. According to the results of affective evaluation for button, touch screen, and jog dial, similarities and differences among affective experience of each PUI exists. It is expected to contribute to improving understanding of affective experience for PUI especially in, button, touch screen, and jog dial.
