        다인 가구와의 비교를 통한 1인 가구의 통근수단 선택 결정요인의 차별적 특성의 파악

        The aim of this study is to empirically identify the differentiating characteristics of determinant factors on sing-person households' commuting mode choice compared to multi-person households' one in order to establish the customized police directions to decrease private car use in commuting. While the study use the 2% sample survey data on the population and housing in 2015, it employ multinomial logit models on relative choice probability of such alternative commuting modes as bus, subway or rail, and walking, rather than driving. As potential determinant factors, the study employs demographic, socio-economic, and housing and residential one for both models of single-person and multi-person households. The study finds that the behavior of commuting mode choice has distinctive difference by gender, marriage status, physical activity constraint, job type, residential period in current housing of the single-person household's workers compared to the multi-person households' ones. Based on the findings, the study deduce ten commuting policy directions customized for the single-person household.

        도로교통 기반시설이 도시경제에 여전히 중요한가?

        This study empirically identifies whether road transport infrastructure still plays an important role in vitalizing urban economy upon the stabilization era of advanced economy. While some studies have demonstrated that its effects still matter at the regional level in Korea, few studies have not found its empirical evidence at the urban spatial level. Employing multiple linear regression models on the size and growth rate of GRDP at the urban spatial level as the production function, our research results draw such conclusions as follow. First, the study identifies that road transport infrastructure is still, to a certain degree, important but much weaker than the impacts of labor and capital input elements. Second, it is found that its role in urban economy more significantly works in both the Korean capital region and big-cities than non-capital provincial areas. Third, it is emphasized that the investment of road transport infrastructure should be targeted to the improvement of spatial accessibility, especially, travel time network connectivity, for the capital region and big cities. Fourth, non-capital provincial areas need to be more focused on inducing labor and capital stock than directly investing road transport infrastructure in order to vitalize urban economy.

        통근에서 승용차의 수단선택과 통행시간의 숨겨진 효과 : 개인, 가구, 거주지역의 다수준 결정요인을 중심으로

        Recent policy emphasis in the fields of urban and transport planning has been focused on reduction of vehicle miles traveled. Therefore, many empirical studies have tried to respectively identify either how mode choice private car is chosen against alternative transport ones or how much travel time by car is determined, not simultaneously both of them. However, such an unintentionally separated approach may give a bias on the estimation of actual private car travel time. This study is aimed at Identifying the unintentionally unrevealed impact of private car mode choice and its travel time in commuting, focusing on the multilevel determinant measures of individual, household, and residential area in the Seoul metropolitan region in Korea. Using the 2% sample raw data of the 2015 total population survey, the study employed the multilevel Tobit model to estimate private car commuting time with the latent variable of its mode choice against active modes. This is a combined model of the multilevel probit model for binomial mode choice and the multilevel linear regression model for private car commuting time. Comparing the two respective sub-models for mode choice and time of commuting, analysis results on the multilevel Tobit model demonstrate that there exist unintentionally but unrevealed effects in estimating actual private car commuting time in simultaneously considering individual behavior on mode choice and travel time. Such impacts are found in several determinant factors at all levels. The other conclusion coming from the analysis results is that reducing the probability of choosing private car on commuting is more effective than decreasing its commuting time from the perspective of actual consumed time.

        메르스의 발발과 확산이 대중교통 이용에 미친 영향

        Globalization sometimes provides unexpected negative effects on public health because of the outbreak and proliferation of avian infectious diseases resulting from more active inter-national movement of people and goods. Seoul had experienced the MERS(Middle East Respiratory Syndrome). During its outbreak and proliferation, citizens tried to avoid its potential infection among people. One of its responses was to take less rail transit. This study is aimed at identifying the impacts of the outbreak and proliferation of MERS on rail transit ridership by employing and analyzing the ARIMAX(autoregressive integrated moving average with external factors) modeling, based on daily rail transit ridership. Analysis results demonstrate the time, size, and durability of peoples response for the MERS. First, the response time for the MERS’s outbreak is differentiated by travel purpose. Transit ridership at the afternoon hours decreased right after it occur. However, its decrease appeared when its proliferation become severer. Second, the reduction size in rail ridership was biggest when its number of infected people more increase. Third, its impact was more persistent at the afternoon hours than anytime else, even though it was not everlasting.

        주거지 근린환경과 개인의 보행활동의 연관성 재검증

        This paper is aimed at empirically re-testing the relationship between residential walking activity and neighborhood environment in the city of Seoul. A few previous studies have focused on the relationship of physical environment with either walking activity or health in Korea. However, they have a limitation due to small sample size at the administrative district level (‘dong’ in Korean). Therefore, it is necessary to expand the number of the districts so that it can be reliable in representing their population. For this purpose, three-level (individual, household, and neighborhood) regression modeling were employed using the five-year data (2007-2011) from Korean National Health-nutrition Examination Survey with the total number of 149 administrative districts. Analysis results demonstrates that only one of total 9 physical environment measures has significant association with personal walking activity at the personal level, unlike the results of the other papers. However, based on our results, it would be too early to deduce the conclusion that most residential physical environment at the spatial level is not significantly related to personal walking activity. In order to generalize our result, we need more empirical studies with more sophisticated approach. The study suggests that further researches need to focus on identifying the relationship by walking purpose as well as expanding the study area from the city of Seoul to other non-Seoul cities.

        중동호흡기 증후군 감염 공포에 따른 물리적 도시형태가 도시철도 이용에 미친 매개 효과 분석

        This study is aimed at decomposing and identifying the mediating effects of transit-oriented compact city planning elements on rail transit ridership during the proliferation of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) in Seoul, Korea. The study are focused on how urban physical form such as density, diversity, design, and transit accessibility in rail station areas had affected the decrease of rail transit ridership during that time indirectly as well as directly, by employing the path modeling. Their indirect impacts on it are measured as rail transit ridership of a rail station affected by the form indictors as well as condensing trip-inducing facilities and socio-economic indicators for the 500m-buffer rail station area. Analysis results are summarized as follows below. First, rail transit ridership significantly decreased by urban physical form as well as single-unit facilities within a certain area. Second, the former had more indirectly influenced ridership decrease. Third, some urban physical form such as density, diversity and design had statistically significant on it while total effects of the two socio-economic measures had not. Fourth and finally, the avoidance for the use of rail transit were more prominent for the elderly than for the others. In addition, all of the urban form measures were differentiatively influenced by the two groups of rail riders.

        공간적 하위시장의 주택가격 불확실성이 주택재정비사업의 소요기간에 미치는 영향 : 서울시 자치구를 중심으로

        This study examined the effect of uncertainties in housing sales prices on the duration period of a total of 598 housing regeneration projects from November 2003 to June 2022 in Seoul. The study applied proportional hazard models considering factors of housing price uncertainties across districts such as the clustered marginal model, shared frailty model, and random intercept model. The results confirmed that the uncertainty of apartment housing sales prices, rather than all housing types, significantly affects delaying the completion of housing regeneration projects. Specifically, the study demonstrated that one unit increase in the standard deviation of the apartment sales prices index delayed the project duration period by 15.45%. In Seoul, where there are few land resources available for development, redevelopment projects are the only means of supplying housing. Therefore, the government should continuously strive to control the uncertainty of the housing market by district, especially apartment housing prices, to ensure the timely supply of housing through housing regeneration projects.

        기능적 연계성 분석을 통한 수도권내 도시연결체계의 변화와 특징에 관한 연구

        There have been a few researches related to the changes and characteristics of commuting networks among urban cities in the Korean Capital Region through specifically investigating cities' functional connection patterns. In that, until now, most of studies had pointed the Seoul-centered spatial interdependency in the region, the study is expected to draw policy implications on future metropolitan growth management by analyzing the changing patterns of spatial interdependency among other cities as well as between Seoul and those cities. We conducted analyses on the temporal pattern of spatially connecting networks among the metropolitan cities(Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi-do's 31 cities and counties) by using JDR(Job Dependency Ratio Index), JOR(Job Occupancy Ratio Index), and Ⅵ(Volume Index) for the O/D matrixes of attending and commuting population from 1990 to 2005. The study identified three characteristics on changing spatial interdependency among cities in the region. First, the scale of the Seoul metropolitan area has expanded in the region, even if the centripetal force of the Seoul city to other cities has decreased since 1990. Second, other cities has increasingly played an influential role in the region because of close functional connection among cities as well as increase in the number of central cities forming a small-size metro area. Third, there are prominent central cities of small-size metro areas while their number and spatial scope has increased since. the central cities includes traditional independent cities in the early 1990s, such cities covering new towns as Koyang in the late 1990s, and newly growing cities such as Yongin and Icheon in the early 2000s.
