        탄화규소-점토-Kaolin Chamotte 계의 소결에 미치는 첨가제 $Al_2O_3$의 영향

        The sintering characteristics of the SiC-Clay-Kaolin chamotte system were studied by addition of $Al_2O_3$ for the manufacture of silicate-bonded silicon carbide refractories at $1350^{\circ}C$. The sinterbilit of SiC-Binder mixture was measured by apparent porosity and compressive strength. And its mineral compositions were identified with X-ray diffractometer. The following results were obtained; 1) Optimum amount of mixed clay ($\textrm{Al}_2\textrm{O}_3$ 40 wt% mixed) as a binder was about 25wt% 2) Appropriate mixing ratio of mixed Kaolin chamotte ($\textrm{Al}_2\textrm{O}_3$ 40wt% mixed) was about 30wt% in the clay Kaolin chamotte binder. 3) Variation of apparent porosity and compressive strength of sintered SiC-binder mixture fired at $1350^{\circ}C$ were due to the sinterbility of clay.

        반응 소결 SiC 소결체의 마찰마모특성에 미치는 첨가제 $Al_2O_3$와 $Fe_2O_3$ 의 영향

        When ceramics are used as the parts of an engine and a machine, the tribological properties are very important. For the preparation of the resistance material for wear applications by the method of Reaction-Bonded Sintering, metal silicon and carbon black are mixed up into SiC powder, and Al2O3 and Fe2O3 are put as an additive. As the general properties, the bending strength and water absortion are measured in the normal temperature and the phase changies are investigated with XRD. The property of the resistance for wear applications is measured with the amount of friction and wear, friction coefficient and maximum asperties. And, the surface of wear is observed with SEM. With the results of this study, the optimal mol ratio of Si : C and the suitable quantity of the mixture of SiC are 7 : 3 and 40 wt%, respectively. In the case of the addition of Al2O3 (2 wt%), the resistance for friction and wear applications is prominent. The bending strength showed the highest peak when Al2O3 (4 wt%) and Fe2O3 (4 wt%) were added. The properties of friction and wear were related with the propagation velocity of crack rather than the bending strength.

        요업원료로서 명반석의 이용에 관한 연구(제III보) Mullite질내화재원료로의 이용

        The possibility of the sources for the manufacture of mullite-rich refractories from the modified domestic alunite was studied. The modifying method of alunite studied were performed by calcination, wet ballmilling, and washing with water. For synthesis of mullite-rich refractories, the modified alunite with the addition of alumina and Fe2O3 as mineralizer was fired at 1350$^{\circ}$-155$0^{\circ}C$, and the following results were obtained: 1) The suitable firing temperature range was 1450$^{\circ}$-150$0^{\circ}C$, and adequate amounts of Al2O3 and Fe2O3 were below 30% and 3~4%, respectively. 2) Thermal expansion coefficient proportional to heating temperature was about 5$\times$10-6~10$\times$10-6cm/cm.deg. 3) The mineralogical compositions of the sintered specimens were found as mainly mullite and corundum.

        Slip의 점도가 slip casting 및 casting 및 cordierite 소결체의 특성에 미치는 영향

        Kaolin과 규석 및 $Mg(OH)_2$등의 원료로 만들어진 slip을 casting 할 때 slip의 점도가 slip casting 속도와 소결체의 미세조직에 미치는 영향을 보면 slip-casting속도는 slip의 점도가 낮을 경우 감소하였으며 slip의 점도범위는 $3.0\~17.0\;cP$가 적당하였다. Slip의 점도를 조절하면 표면층, 표면 내부층, 중간층, 내면층의 미세조직을 비교적 균일하게 casting 할 수 있다 소성온도 $1350^{\circ}C$에서 시편의 구성광물은 cordierite 결정만으로 되어있었다. We have investigated the relationship between a viscosity of the slip prepared from kaolin, quartz, $Mg(OH)_2$, etc and its influence on the speed of slip casting and the microsturcture of a sintered body. The speed of slip casting decreases as a viscosity of a slip decreases. The optimized viscosity range of a slip was found to be around $3.0\~17.0\;cP$. By careful controlling a viscosity of slip, homogeneous microstructure of outer surface layers, inner surface layers, intermediate layers, and inside layers were obtained by casting process. The specimen sintered at $1350^{\circ}C$ consists of a cordierite crystalline phase only as a constituent mineral.

        저 유전성 Mullite/Glass 복합체에 관한 연구

        Kaolin으로부터 합성한 mullite에 brosilicate계 유리를 혼합하여 기판재료로 적합한 저유전성 Mullite/Glass 복합체를 제조하였다. 유리를 첨가함으로써 액상소결에 의한 Cu, Au, Ag-Pd 등의 배선 사용이 가능한 저온에서 치밀한 소결체를 얻을수 있었다. 기판의 물성저하의 원이 되는 유리의 결정화는 나타나지 않았다. 소결온도 950~$1100^{\circ}C$의 범위에서 유리 50 wt%의 조성의 복합체에서 유전상수 약 5.2~5.4 (at 1 MHz), 열팽창을 5.3~$5.7{\times}10^{-6}{\cdot}^0C^{-1}$, , 꺾임강도 130 MPa로 high-performed substrate로서 적합한 특성을 나타내었다. Low dielectric Mullite/Glass composites for substrates were fabricated by mullite by synthesized from kaolin and alumina, and borosilicate glass. By the liquid-sintering, the composites were densified at low sintering temperature in air, allowing confiring with Cu, Ag, Au and Ag-Pd. Crystallization of the borosilicate glass was not occurred. The mullite/50 wt% glass composites fired between 950 and $1100^{\circ}C$ showed good properties for high-performed substrate, such as low dielectric constant (5.2~5.4, at 1MHz), low coefficient of thermal expansion (5.3~$5.7{\times}10^{-6}{\cdot}^0C^{-1}$), and bending strength of 130 MPa.

        반응소결에 의한 SiC의 소결과 그 특성에 관한 연구 (초기 소결과정에서의 B4C 및 Y2O3의 첨가 영향)

        This study was carried out to investigate the effects of B4C or Y2O3 additives on the tendency of sintering, $\beta$-SiC synthesis and mineral phase changes by reaction bonding of SiC at 145$0^{\circ}C$. At the sintering temperature of 145$0^{\circ}C$, the additives such as B4C or Y2O3 did not improved porosity and bending strength. Added more than 1.5% of Y2O3, 0.5-0.3% of B4C, the formation of $\beta$-SiC was increased. At higher temperature above 145$0^{\circ}C$, it seems that the bodies added B4C, contained 3C form of SiC were denser than that of Y2O3 added. Because the transition of 3Clongrightarrow4Hlongrightarrow6H promoted sintering.

        카오린으로부터 $Al_2O_3$의 용출에 관한 연구

        The possibility of extraction of alumina from domestic Ha-dong kaolin was studied by sulfuric acid treatment. Raw kaolin was calcined at various temperature (500-110$0^{\circ}C$) and calcined kaolin were treated with sulfuric acid. The tendency of extraction yield of alpha alumina have been investigated by relating reaction time, temperature, and acid concentration. After reaction, precipitates were analyzed by DTA, TGA, and identified alpha alumina by X-ray diffractometer with calcined sample at 120$0^{\circ}C$. The results were as follows; 1. The optimum calcination temperature was 800-86$0^{\circ}C$. 2. The most suitable extracting conditions of alpha alumina were 40 wt%-$H_2SO_4$, 2-3 hours acid-treating time and 8$0^{\circ}C$ acid-treating temperature. 3. Precipitates were composed of $(NH_4)_2SO_4$, $Al_2SO_4(OH)_4$ 5-7 $H_2O$ and $Al(OH)_3$.

        가압소결 $SiC/Si_3N_4$ 복합체의 마찰마모특성

        SiC-Si3N4 composites were prepared by mixing $\alpha$-Si3N4 powder to $\alpha$-SiC powder in the range of 10 to 30 vol% with 10vol% interval. 6wg% Al2O3 and 6wt% Y2O3 were respectively added as sintering aids. Hot pressing was performed at 1,80$0^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour with 25 MPa pressure. In the case of adding 20vol% of $\alpha$-Si3N4 powder the relative density to theoretical value and the flexural strength were 99.1% and 34,420 MPa respectively and the worn amount was 2.09$\times$10-3 mm2 which were the highest values in the all range of he composition. Although the composite containig 10 vol% of $\alpha$-Si3N4 powder showed the highest fracture toughness(KIC) of 4.65MN/m3/2 the reduction of the wear resistance in this composite is likely to be affected by the homogeneity and the uniformity of the grain coalescence and growth during the sintering process.

        반응소결 SiC/Graphite 복합체에서 Graphite 입자의 크기에 따른 마찰마모특성

        The tribological property of ceramics is very important for use in seal rings, pump parts, thread guides and mechanical seal, etc. In the present study, which RBSC/graphite composites were manufactured by adding graphite powders with different particle sizes to mixtures of SiC powder, metallic silicon, carbon black and alumina, effects on the tribological property of each RBSC/graphite composite was investigated in accordance with the particle size of the added graphite powder. The water absorption, the bending strength and the resistance for the friction and wear were measured, and the crystalline phase and the microstructure were respectively examined by using XRD and SEM. In case that the particle size of the graphite powder was fine(2${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$), the formation of $\beta$-SiC was accelerated, thereby making the increase of the bending strength and the decrease of the water absorption, but no improvement for the tribological properties. Furthermore, in case that the particle size of the graphite powder was some large(88~149${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$), the formation of $\beta$-SiC was not accelerated, to thereby make the decrease of the bending strength and the increase of the water absorption, but the improvement for the tribological property of only the composite having the graphite powder of 20 vol%. In addition, in case that the particle size distribution of the graphite powder was large (under 53 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$), there was no improvement for every properties. However, the composites, which the graphite powder with the particle size of 53~88 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ was added in 10~15 vol%, had the most increased resistance for the friction and wear which show the worn out amount of 0.4~0.6$\times$10-3 $\textrm{cm}^2$, and the value of the bending strength is 380~520 kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$.

        상압소결 $SiC/Si_3N_4$ 복합체의 마찰마모특성

        $\alpha$-SiC에 ${\alpha}-Si_3N_4$ 를 10~30 vol%까지 10 vol% 간격으로 혼합하고 소결 조제로$Al_2O_3$와$Y_2O_3$를 각각 6wt% 로 첨가하여 $1,780^{\circ}C$에서 2시간동안 질소 분위기에서 상압소결하여 $Si_3N_4$ 복합체를 제조하였다. 상대 이론 밀도 및 꺽임 강도는 ${\alpha}-Si_3N_4$를 20 vol% 첨가하였을 때 92% 및 3,560 MPa로 가장 우수하였으며, 비마모량도 $2.68{\times}10^{-3}\;mm^2$ 으로 가장 작았다. 그리고, 파괴 인성$(K_{1c})$)은 ${\alpha}-Si_3N_4$를 30vol% 첨가하였을 때 $4.9\;MN/m^{3/2}$로 가장 좋았으나 이 경우 기공의 영향으로 내마모성은 저하된 것을 확인할 수 있었다. $SiC/Si_3N_4$ composites were prepared by mixing ${\alpha}-Si_3N_4$ powder to $\alpha$-SiC powder in the range of 10 to 30 vol% with 10 vol% interval. 6 wt% of $Al_2O_3$ and $Y_2O_3$ were also added respectively as sintering aids. Then, pressureless sintering was performed at 1,78$0^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours in $N_2$ gas. In the case of adding 20 vol% of ${\alpha}-Si_3N_4$ powder, the relative desity to theoretical value and the flexutal strength were 92 % and 3,560 MPa, respectively. The smallest relative worn amount thereof was $2.68{\times}10^{-3}\;mm^2$ for 20 vol% ${\alpha}-Si_3N_4$. The composite containing 30 vol % of ${\alpha}-Si_3N_4$ powder showed the highest fracture toughness $(K_{1c})$ of $4.9\;MN/m^{3/2}$, although the reduction of the wear resistance due to the effect of the pores was observed.
