The Korean High-speed train was developed during 1996 to 2007. This development project consists of many sub-projects and the train-system includes a lot of sub-systems. In order to promote the project on planned cost and time effectively, we tried to apply systems engineering process during the whole life-cycle. The purpose of this paper is to introduce the systems engineering process applied to this project. Activities carried out in each phase such as pre-design, detailed-design, integration & verification are described.

High-speed railway is important transportation in the world because it has a lot of merits like as very comfortable, environmental benefits, energy savings, etc. The increase of demand for high-speed railway influence to develop of new hish-speed trains. Many countries introduced new high-speed train in the market and it meets to the market's needs. They adopt new technology and systems like that active suspension, synchronous permanent magnetic motor, distributed drive system, aero acoustics, etc. In Korea, the project for R&D of new high-speed train is launched in 2007. We need analysis for main properties of new high-speed train(HEMU-400x). This paper presents the comparisons, analyzed characteristics of main properties like as traction system and braking system. In this analysis, we can know our technical position in the world and what is important to focus on the development. It is very useful to develop a next generation high-speed train in Korea.

A train is subject to a series of reliability-related tasks through its entire life cycle. Among them the reliability demonstration is required for commercial trains and the test is performed during the commissioning period or the early stage of the commercial operation. On the other hands various test are carried out for prototype trains and hence their operational condition is quit different from that of the commercial trains. One should take account of these differences when reliability assessment is needed for the prototype trains. This paper presents a procedure and an analysis method to evaluate reliability of a prototype train. Reliability data have been obtained through test runs of the HSR-350x and operational conditions for the KTX and HSR-350x have been analyzed to compare the reliability targets of the prototype train.

열차 운행에 따른 전장품들의 발열을 예측하기 위해 동력차 내 벽면온도 및 외부 유출 온도 및 풍속, 외부로부터 유입되는 유입 공기의 유입 온도 및 속도를 측정하였다. 이를 위하여 적외선카메라를 이용하여 고속열차 내부의 전장품 및 벽 표면의 온도를 측정하였다. 또한 전장품에서 발생하는 열은 고속열차 천장에 설치된 덕트를 통하여 외부로 배출된다. 배출 되는 공기의 온도 및 속도를 측정하였고, 외부에서 동력차 내부로 들어오는 유입공기의 온도 및 속도도 측정하였다. 또한 부착형 온도센서를 이용하여 동력차 내부의 벽 및 전장품 표면에서의 온도를 측정하였다. 측정된 결과를 이용하여 열차 주행 에 따른 전장품의 발열 특성을 분석하였다. The heat generated by electrical components during train operation was estimated by measuring the wall temperature in a locomotive, as well as the temperature and speed of the air entering from the outside and then returning to the outside. The temperatures of the electrical components and wall surface in a high-speed train were measured using an infrared camera. The heat generated by the electrical components was exhausted to the outside through a duct installed on the ceiling of the high-speed train. Thus, the temperature and speed of this exhaust air were measured, as well as those of the air entering the locomotive from the outside. The temperatures at the surfaces of the electrical components and walls in the locomotive were also measured using an attachment-type temperature sensor. In addition, the measurement results were applied to analyze how the heat characteristics of the electrical components were affected by the train operation.

The HEMU-400X(High-speed Electric Multiple Unit 400㎞/h eXperiment) project starts last year. It is required to control and balance the systems engineering activities throughout the project life cycle for a successful completion of the project. This paper proposes the systems engineering management plan for the HEMU-400X project.

Recently attempts to reduce annoyance due to noise considering auditory sensation have been made for many products comparing to previous attempts to reduce sound pressure level. The A-weighted sound pressure level also reflects auditory characteristics of a human being, however, subjective feelings of a human being depends not only on frequency spectrum but also on other factors such as noise level, frequency bandwidth, and attenuation. Therefore indices such as loudness, sharpness, roughness are proposed to consider subjective feelings and they are used to develop a parameter to optimize sound quality of different products. This paper evaluates and compares sound pressure level and sound quality indices for high-speed train noise and analyzes their characteristics. Subjective tests will be carried out using the evaluated indices to develop a parameter representing annoyance of train noise.
