A conceptual driving mechanism to run a 900 bar liquid hydrogen pump is proposed in this paper. The design of 3 types of power unit mechanisms to drive pumps is a hydraulic power pack, servo valve power pack, and electro-hydraulic actuator (EHA) compact power unit. It is recommended to isolate the hydraulic power pack from the pump for safety, but if the safety of electronic devices is ensured, it can be integrated into a compact size. In addition, the merits and demerits of these 3 hydraulic power units for the pumping of liquid hydrogen are explained. In addition, the effect of using different types of control valves to configure the hydraulic circuit and actuator is proposed. In the future, it is expected that a suitable warm end (one end of the cryogenic reciprocating pump is called warm end) can be configured by applying this paper.

The gerotor type volumetric displacement pump is suitable for oil or water hydraulics. For this reason, many researchers have been studied and widely used in various fields. In this study, we were optimized design rotor profile, based on an envelope of a family of curves, is proposed. The influence of the circular tooth radius and the eccentricity on the configuration of the pump has been explored in this paper. Throughout theoretical study, designed inner-rotor and outer-rotor.

In the stack cooling of household fuel cell system(1kW), cooling water pump has been demanded for compact size, low power consumption and constant delivery-performance of the cooling water. To obtain sufficient performance for practical application in above-mentioned area, in this paper, we studied on piston pump using multi-layer PZT actuator(5mm×5mm×18mm). The piston pump used a multi-layer PZT(16㎛ displacement at 100 Vpp) as a reciprocating motion actuator and structure producing resonance to amplify the displacement of a moving piston. The pump composed of two springs and the piston that could be supported a multi-layer PZT. We also decided the mass of moving parts, the stiffness coefficient of two springs with simulation. In this simulation, we predicted the resonant displacement and frequency of the pump. Then, based on the obtained results, without a mechanical amplification, we could make a large displacement.

The aim of this study is to develop rotary type energy recovery device(RERD) using hydrostatic pressure exchanger consists of hydraulic pump and hydraulic motor in a single cylinder barrel. This pressure exchanger are developed for brain energy recovery in the sea-water reverse osmosis(SWRO) desalination plant. But it used oil hydraulic axial piston pump for verification of mechanism in this study. In SWRO desalination plants, seawater is pressurized to approximately 60bar. At this pressure, the seawater enters pressure vessels having a RO membrane, which is permeable to pure water. Since the recovery rate is typically 25-35%, the other added seawater rejected by membrane is returned to the sea having pressure energy. In this study, a new type hydrostatic pressure exchanger as RERD with hydraulic piston pump and hydraulic piston motor in a same cylinder barrel is presented It is able to recover the energy from concentrate flow and makes its mechanism more simple. RERD has been evaluated as experimently by compared with various driving condition of electric consumption power.

This paper describes a piezoelectric pump using the silicon diaphragm with aluminum plate and spring. The piezoelectric pump uses a hinge-lever mechanism to amplify the displacement of multilayered PZT actuator. No-load flow rate and load characteristic of fabricated piezoelectric pump were tested. The fabricated piezoelectric pump of 80 ㎜ diameter and 65 ㎜ length achieves maximum flow rate and output pressure of 790 ㎖/min and 9.7 kPa, respectively, at an applied voltage of 100 V and operating frequency of 6 ㎐. Future works will focus on the application of the liquid cooling system for heat rejection of high power electronic devices existing in computers and fuel cell etc.

In this study, a MR(Magneto-rheological) brake to obtain high torque-to-size ratio instead of conventional powder brake is presented for high-tension control of converting machinery such as coater, slitter and so on. First, to obtain the higher performance than conventional powder brake, a MR brake with a modified rotor shape is newly designed and analyzed by using electromagnetic field analysis. Second, a prototype of the MR brake is fabricated with the optimized structural parameters and an experimental apparatus is constructed. Finally, basic characteristics between current and torque are experimentally investigated.
