Micropore structure and size distribution of activated carbon fibers(ACFs) were studied by image analyzer. Especially, TEM photos of cross sectional view of ACFs with the same amount of burn-off(40%) but different burn-off conditions were prepared for the comparison of microporosity and adsorption characteristics. It is confirmed that the ACF with larger specific surface area in consequence of larger amount of smaller size micropores, shows higher adsorption capacity. Image analysis can be applied for the indirect, yet quantitative analysis of microporosity of ACFs including pore structure. pore size distribution, pore volume distribution and area fraction of cross-section.

In situations where granules flocculated with polymeric binders were compressed, the applicability of the theoretical compression equation, which was previously derived considering the granule volume as the real starting point of the bed compression, was tested. The experimental results and the theoretical compression equation showed good agreement over the whole range of experimental conditions; variation of the type of binder, granule size, size distribution, L_o/D ratio and compression rate and the compression constant C_m was shown to be the same value as granule porosity.

탄약 비군사화 심포지엄에 참석하여 안전하고 환경친화적인 불용탄 처리관련 기술현황을 분석하고 실제 운영중인 일부시설을 견학할 수 있었다. 또한 이 기간중 DAC의 주선하에 태평양지역 국가들의 회의 참석자들과의 별도 화합으로 Demil 정보를 교환하였다. 이와 같은 미국의 노력은 이 지역의 Demil 기술 종주국으로서 지도자 역할을 자임하려는 노력이 역력하였다. 현재 미국의 비군사화 사업은 대 테러전이 계속 진행됨에 따라 예산지원 우선순위에서 낮아져 향후 1-2년간은 사업규모의 축소 또는 지연이 예산된다. 따라서 정부내의 타부서와의 기술협력을 모색하여 기술개발은 꾸준히 이루어 질 것이다.

Using Mohr`s stress circle, a theoretical compression equation was derived which closely fit the compression stage of the granular bed. A new concept was conceived for the polymer bonded granule that when compressed during initial compression stage from bulk to granule volume negligible energy was consumed. This phenomenon was largely due to the viscoelastic behavior of the granule. Considering the granule volume as the real starting point of the bed compression, the following theoretical compression equation was derived; C_g=1-V/V_g=C_mbP/1+bP where, C_g is degree of volume reduction from granule volume, P is pressure, V is volume, V_g is granule volume, C_m and b are constants. The experimental results and the results from theoretical compression equation showed good agreement over the whole range of experimental condition and the compression constant C_m was found to be the same value as granule porosity.

This report is intended to give the readers a comprehensive look at the state of the art of size reduction technology, with particular attention on how to go about selecting right equipment and making the best use of existing equipment in order to achieve given service requirements. Much of the up-to-date information has been presented herein in the form of tables which include manufacturers` lists of various operational and analytical equipment. In the course of fulfilling this aim, relavent concepts, methods and classifications, both new and old, are introduced wherever appropriate to relate theoretical aspects to practical applications.
