Real quality and axial void fraction distribution of subcooled refrigerant flow is very important to predict the heat transfer rate and pressure drop in the design of refrigerating system. In the subcooled boiling region, the liquid bulk temperature is still below the corresponding saturation temperature. But beyond the net vapor generation point, bubble detachment is occured actively from the vapor layer formed on the wall. A reliable method to predict the vapor fraction from the liquid bulk temperature is suggested in this paper. And also the actual quality of the subcooled R-113 flow is calculated in the range of 261-1239kg/$m^2$s mass velocity and 10-30K subcooling.

Vortex generators are used as effective controllers of aerodynamic characteristics of industry equipments. But full knowledge of their mechanism is not attainable due to complex interaction between shedding vortices and bodies. This study focuses on an investigation of flow patterns from simple vortex generators by LDV measurements and smoke wire visualization. Circular cylinder is adopted for preliminary examination of velocity wake patterns and three kinds of generator shapes and two kinds of gap angles for their generator were tested in a wind tunnel. As experimental results, quite different wake patterns and velocity distribution within the wake region are observed.

The present study is aimed to develop a new experimental method to measure velocity components in flow field by image processing technique called Particle Image Velocimetry(PIV). Here is represented a novel particle identifying algorithm by correlating two consecutive frames. And it is compared with four-frame identifying method. resulting in higher processing speed and more effective acquisition of the same particle pairs. The image processing system consists of one commercial image board slit into a personal computer and 2-dimensional sheet light generator and flow picture recording apparatus. Particle labelling, calculation of gravity centers. boundary detection and related techniques are also scrutinized and distribution of interpolated velocity vectors. equi-baric contours are also illustrated as examples.
