A chevron rubber spring is used in primary suspension system for rail vehicle. The chevron spring has function which support the load carried and reduce vibration and noise in operation of rail vehicle. The computer simulation using the non-linear finite element analysis program MARC executed to predict and evaluate the load capacity and stiffness for the chevron spring. The appropriate shape and material properties are proposed to adjust the required characteristics of chevron spring in the three modes of flexibility. Also, several samples of chevron spring are manufactured and experimented. It is shown that the predicted values agree well the results obtained from experiments.

An air spring was accepted for rail vehicle secondary suspension to reduce and absorb the vibration and the noise. The air spring for the electric railway was developed with domestic technology, which consisted of a cord reinforced rubber bellows, a upper plate, a lower plate and a stopper rubber spring. The fatigue test was conducted in laboratory by using servo hydraulic fatigue testing system to verify the durability. And to guarantee the adaptation of this air spring, the ride comfort and the air pressure variation were measured in train test on Boondang line.

The real service torque has been measured by use of the wireless telemetry system for the 4-wheel drive passenger car under the various road and operating condition. Also the fatigue tests has been performed for the drive shaft. and corresponding fatigue life has been predicted.<br/> It has been observed that the measured service torque and the predicted fatigue life could be varied significantly according to the road and driving condition.<br/>

Rubber materials with excellent damping property are widely applied for vibration isolators. The<br/> dynamic characteristics of the rubber materials for vibration isolators were investigated. Dynamic test<br/> for rubber material with 5 different hardness were performed. In dynamic tests for test specimen,<br/> non-resonance method, was used to obtain the dynamic storage modulus and loss factor and the effect<br/> of dynamic vibration frequency, strain amplitude and temperature were investigated.

There are many applications of nanostructures, have been suggested by lots of researchers. It is<br/> highly required to measure the properties of nano-sized materials for design and fabrication of the<br/> nanostructures. In this paper, several techniques for measuring the mechanical properties of<br/> nano-structures are presented laying emphasis on the activity of Nano Property Measurement Team in<br/> KIMM. Some advanced applications of nano-indenter are described for measuring elastic, visco-elastic,<br/> frictional and adhesive properties as well as the standard methods of it. Micro-tensile test technique<br/> with accurate in-plane strain measurement method is also presented and its role in the property<br/> measurement of nanostructures is discussed.
