We discuss finite element approximation and use a Mindlin plate element based upon uniformly reduced numerical integration.<br/> The finite element selected for use in this work is a four node, bilinear displacement element based upon the Mindlin theory of plates. Such elements show good accuracy for composite laminated plates when reduced numerical integration is used to evaluate the element marices.<br/> This study presents the experimental and F.E.M results for the natural freguencies of FRP-URETHANE-FRP Composite plate.Agreement between experrimental and calculated frequencies is excellent.<br/>

This study discusses the finite element approximation and the choice of elements is dictated by the need to perform accuate for both thin and thick shells and by the complexity of the sensitivity calculations. A number of very accurate plate and shell elements exist for which the sensitivity computation become hopelessly complex. On the other hand, most very simple elements, which would lend themselves to compact and efficient sensitivity computation, do not posses sufficient accuracy for routine use.
