Polycomb group (PcG) proteins maintain the spatial ex-pression patterns of genes that are involved in cell-fate specification along the anterior-posterior (A/P) axis. This repression requires cis-acting silencers, which are called PcG response elements (PREs). One of the PcG proteins, Pleiohomeotic (Pho), which has a zinc finger DNA binding protein, plays a critical role in recruiting other PcG proteins to bind to PREs. In this study, we characterized the effects of a pho mutation on embryonic segmentation. pho maternal mutant embryos showed various segmental defects including pair-rule gene mutant patterns. Our results indicated that engrailed and even-skipped genes were misexpressed in pho mutant embryos, which caused embryonic segment defects.

This study aims to assess the safety of steel pipe scaffolding on small-scale construction sites. It does so by comparing wind loadcoefficients and load combinations for temporary structures used in scaffolding design. Specifically, when accounting for the maximum windspeed and a workable maximum wind speed (10m/s), importance factors and solidity ratios were established for calculating wind loads oneach temporary facility. These factors were then used to compare the results through structural analysis. Furthermore, through a comparison ofload combinations that consider horizontal loads and the workable maximum wind speed (10m/s) with the load combinations consideringsolely the maximum wind speed, excluding horizontal loads, it was confirmed that incorporating both factors leads to a safer design.
